|
|
Hello people. I have a KR2 and I have updated it to Firmware 1.002 so as to enable HSDPA support.
I have connected a HUAWEI E220 HSDPA USB modem to it and it works.
But the problem is that the KR2 does not detect the modem automatically. I have to reboot the modem via the web interface before it detects the modem and makes the connection.
How can I make the modem be detected automatically and also how can I reboot the KR2 without using the web interface. The reset button at the back does not reboot the KR2.
PS: I am having the same issues with the latest 1.003 firmware. Also my Huawei modem is the one I got from my GSM/HSDPA provider ( MTN )
Pls Help me out!
many thanks in advance. |

When you reboot the router and it detects your Huawei card, what does KR2 display as the name of the device? If you click on the Advanced tab and select Failover, it will display the name of the device on the failover settings page. Please post that here as I am interested to find out what KR2 thinks the device is because I don't believe the E220 is certified as compatible with KR2. That may be the cause of your issue. I will double check on that, though.
As I mentioned in your other post, the reset switch on the back of KR2 is just that: a reset switch. It does not reboot the router nor was it ever intended to be used in that way. To reboot the router, either remove and reapply power or click the Reboot button in the GUI. |

In the WAN interfaces in the Failover section, the modem is Identified correctly as HUAWEI MOBILE. If you go to the Modem status under the status section, you will see that it lists the modem's details fully.
What I have noticed is that when you power up it detects the modem as a "USB mass storage device" this is what I see in the log file.
It only detects it correctly when I perform a reboot thru the reboot function on the Web Gui.
Once it's detected it works fully with no hiccups, if fact it takes 8 secs from detection to establishing connection.
The issue is just that I have to make a software reboot which is annoying. There must be an easy solution for this.
I don't think the KR2 reboots fully upon power up. |

| Well, the root of the issue is the Huawei E220: it isn't fully compatible with KR2. But there is another Huawei device supported so that may be why you see it detect and connect. If you plug the card into the router and then apply power, does it work correctly? That may be a workaround for you. |

Some of the Huawei's are... challenging. I believe I have seen your problem using a very similar model. Unfortunately the only workaround I know of will require a firmware change, and the current release does not have it. Sorry I can't give you any better news, but the problem can be worked around so there is some hope a future release will do so.
The Huawei (and many modern modems) actually do come up initially as mass storage devices, and the modem driver has to send them a special command (it tends to vary with every modem manufacturer) to make them re-plug themselves as modem devices. Usually this approach is taken by manufacturers so they can try and self-install their windows drivers and connection manager. |
