|

This might be a odd and dumb question but I have my reasons.I am just curious if it is possible to use two evdo cards on the one computer I have? Between me and my wife we use a lot of data and since this is the best internet for now we can get we don't want to get our service canceled b/c of over usage.
I was mostly just wondering if it is possible or would it cause a conflict on my computer having two different internet cards. I don't want to waste money or time in case someone has already tried and had it not work.I don't like dealing with Verizon tech support so if this were not something I could do myself I wouldn't bother even trying. I know two cards is kinda expensive but its kinda my best option.
Thanks for any help. |

Do you mean have two cards plugged into the same system at the same time in order to double your bandwidth? Or when your wife uses her card when she's on the system and then you use your when you're using it?
It can be done. Having two cards in conjunction at once requires a little more effort though. |

| Two cards at once? That's possible? I've tried simultaniously using EVDO with dialup, they both connect, but doesn't work. |

Using two air cards at once requires two seperate plans. _________________ evdo-tips.com |

I'm not sure about the dialup part working, but I'm pretty sure you can just bridge the two connections through Network Connections in XP and it will work fine.
But as it was mentioned, you will have to have separate plans for each card in use. |

I don't think it will work with simple bridging unless the ISP supports multilink IP resolution. Unless I'm missing something very profound about connection bridging.
You might be able to do it with some sort of proxy solution or some fancy load sharing/rotation though. Wingate comes to mind. |

| I figured that I would have to have two contracts for the cards. So far everything in Vista has been a problem for me. I just wanted to make sure it is possible to do the two cards. My current UM150 is hooked on to my CTR500 so I can play on XBOX live that and along with all the other stuff we do data runs up pretty quick. So I thought if I could take a different card and say let my wife use that one the data usage would not rack up so fast. I just didnt want to have some conflict on my computer or if Verizon would let me even do it. |

| I found out Verizon would let me do it but I am curious how to make it work to ensure I am not using the wrong card. My problem taking out my current card is its hooked to my CTR500 and when I do it can take up to an hour to get connected again. Like I said I dont want a conflict on my computer and I dont really know where to start with a second card. I would like to avoid the vz access manager if possible. I wouldn't mind switching out the cards in my modem its just the hassle to get them up and connected again. If I could figure out why its so hard to get connected it wouldnt be such a big deal. |

I'm not sure why you are having problems. I had a Sprint card and an AT&T card there for a while, I switched to Sprint when I had six months left on the AT&T contract. As long as the drivers are installed on both cards they both should work fine. The computer knew which card was being plugged in. |

Measure the two cards. Then when you notice that the black one is an inch taller than the white one, you will have a way to tell them apart.
Ok. All joking aside. My son has a USB727, and I have a USB727. From time to time we trade. We each have a laptop. Any airtime used, goes against the actual device plugged into the laptop at that time.
For example, if my time is almost at 5GB, I use his card for the rest of the month, since he often uses less than 1GB per month. Then his bill shows perhaps 3.5 GB used, and mine shows 4.8 GB used. |

| If you are using Vista and are trying to do ICS or bridging good luck with that.. Tried that with my new laptop and it didn't work. It was an error within Vista and I never could figure out why it wouldn't let me use ICS. Now I wasn't trying to use two cards at once I was just trying to connect my laptop and xbox 360 together. In Xp it works fine. You are trying to use two cards at once right? |

| If you already have the CTR500, it will load balance your cards on the latest firmware. |

not if both are from same carrier. they would then most likely hit same tower, and pipe to tower would be limiting factor.
to take full advantage of cradlepoint load balancing, each attached device should be from different carrier. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas/Routers/Amps :: Verizon EVDO :: Sprint EVDO :: Why Buy from 3Gstore? |

From what I've seen, load balancing will try to even out the amount traffic you're generating based on downloads. If your websurfing, you won't really see any dramatic performance changes. However, if you're using bittorrent, load balancing will utilize both cards and double your download speed. This is due to how bittorrent is a distributed P2P protocol. So in your case, if your running Xbox over load balancing, those connections will be allocated to one card at random. Once some utilization has occured, the next new connections, say from websurfing, should be allocated to the second card automagically. And, another new connections will try to used the card being used less. The tower will come into play depending on usage. If your running load balancing with two cards from the same carrier at peak hours, the tower might get pissed at you....or maybe not. It depends on how forgiving/advance/primitive your area is.
Good luck on blasting your service |
