after reading the last two posts, i want to make sure i'm understanding...
i cannot connect compass 597 and a usb 802.11b/g/n to the mbr1000 and use load balancing?
if not that bites!!
im theory i want to keep the mbr1000 in my truck and when i travel and stay at a hotel, i want to be able to access the mbr1000 all times and use the hotel wifi or starbucks wifi if its close to lighten the load on sprint. |

Load Balancing
WAN Only - Things that plug into the blue WAN port of the MBR1000 i.e. DSL, Cable, Satellite, etc.
Cellular Only - Things that plug into the USB/Express ports/slots i.e. Sprint Sierra Wireless C597, Verizon Novatel U720, AT&T Option GT Max 3.6 Express, etc.
Load balancing deals with the internet connections, not Wi-Fi. If you want your computer to use Starbucks Wi-Fi instead of the MBR1000 you can do that now, it has nothing to do with load balancing. |

And an illegal concept!
By why not? To put it in another context: The people who make guns don't go to jail, it's stupid people who shoot each other. |

actually no, i travel a lot and some areas the wifi at the hotels are not up to par. I'm at an extended stay deluxe right now and i can only connect at 11mbps. If i could say leave the mbr1k next to the window and balance hotel wifi and sprint evdo, its a win win |

Why don't you configure your laptop to do that rather than relying on the MBR to do it? |

Hi Friends,
I installed 1.3.1 this afternoon and had the same problems as I had with 1.3, which are described on page 1 of this thread. I conclude that some MBR1000s accept the new firmware and some don't, mine does not.
Prior to upgrading I emailed to Cradlepoint support asking about the correct way to upgrade the firmware. I followed the instructions they sent me precisely, with no luck.
I had to revert back to 1.2 which is rock solid for me.
If you had trouble upgrading to 1.3, you may have the same difficulties with 1.3.1. If you had no problems with 1.3, you will likely have no problems with 1.3.1.

sbi108,
Am I correct in thinking that the problem is not that it won't upgrade but that you can not restore your configuration?
If so you might try Saving off the configuration again.
Download the 1.3.1.bin file from the Cradlepoint Web site.
Restore the router to factory defaults using the Tools -> System page.
Unplug any modems or the WAN connection.
Upgrade the firmware, after it reboots and comes bacu up restore again to factory defaults by holding the reset button in for 15 seconds.
Connect to the router and restore your configuration.
Maybe it is a process issue with your MBR as neither Joe nor I had a problem. Granted I did not have to do it that way, but it's just a thought. |

Hi richp01,
Thanks for your excellent suggestions.
Last night I did exactly what you suggested, as your procedure is exactly what Cradlepoint Support suggested.
The firmware update succeeds but the router disconnects and reconnects every minute or so. I reverted to 1.2 and all's well.
Cradlepoint is sending me a replacement router under warranty, thanks to them!

Glad to hear they are taking care of you. Hopefully replacing the unit will resolve your issue. Did they say if they were going to upgrade your FW before they send it out?
Just wondering. |

I requested that they update to 1.3.1 and test the unit before shipping but have not received a confirmation that they will do it. I would be surprised if they did not, given the firmware update failure problem they are fixing with the replacement.
Update, just received an email from support, they are installing 1.3.1 and testing before shipment, thanks Cradlepoint!
best to you, sbi108 |

I purchased two CRT500's and had lots of trouble with the first one. We have two U727's for the wife and myself after recently getting Sprint EVDO in my rural area. My router gave me fits so I eventually purchased an MBR1000. Two days after I purchased it, CP released the new FW. I have upgraded the FW on my MBR and my wifes CTR and they are both working great. As part of my debugging connectivity and speed issues, I also got rid of my 2.4Ghz cordless phones and went to 5.8Ghz models. I also had set the router IP's differently and channels to separate ends of the spectrum. Hers worked fine on channel 10 or 11 but mine had big problems with degradation in speed on channels 1,2 and up through 6. I eventually set both routers to channel 11 and bingo no problemo. I think my bluetooth laser mouse was interfering with the router wifi signal.
I also turned on traffic shaping which in my situation was needed for good speeds. With TS turned off, my speeds were degraded. I also have the 32" truckers omni antennas on both modems mounted on outside wall of our sunroom where we hang out. My RSSI is -55dbm on both. Tower is less than two miles away with clear view from my back deck. I get a fairly consistent 1.2 to 1.3mbps down and 300 to 400kbps up. Latency is very nice.
ETA: maybe this should have went in the share my EVDO success stories thread.
Sorry...... |
