I checked the 3g image at the bottom and I have the http://1111/bmi. Just wondering what this means? It seems like a bad thing but I haven't a clue why!?

That 1.1.1.1 crap means you have been proxied! I had it for about 3 weeks and I kept calling tech support and the proxie is gone but the speed is gone also! |

that's only if he's using ad block with firefox.
Also, you can see the images loading locations in the status bar while they are being loaded onto a page. |

Three days and I haven't seen hide nor hair of the proxy server. Right-clicking on the EVDO Forums logo and it used to say 1.1.1.x, now it says evdoforums.com.
Now, if I can just do something about this lousy 300 kbps download speed... |

No proxy for me in a few days. Other folks on howardforums have said they are no longer behind the proxy as well. I am south of Jackson, MS on SID 205.
*Still has his fingers crossed* |

I have never seen a 0.0.0.0 proxy so that may be something else. The IP of 1.1.1.x is a internal one which can't be assigned to any computer on the internet due to the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) reserving it.
Overall I have been proxy free for a week and loving it. Thank you Alltel |

No change here. With or without the proxy, my speeds are the same. Six months ago, I was pulling in 1.5 mbps steady.

I am thinking that the card is hosed for some reason. I know that Alltel is merging with Verzion but what about the sprint roaming thing between Sprint and alltel??? I am wondering if that has gone the way of the do-do!! Last I checked i was on a Sprint tower. this sucks too!! I was looking for RevA and now I have evdo with Dial up speeds!!! |

Have you taken your card to different areas to see if you get the same speed. You might be to far away from your tower there in | whyzeman wrote: | | Southern Miss. | or your tower might be loaded down. I know when I am less than a mile away from the intersection of highway 540 and 102 in Bentonville, Arkansas I get speed that are about the same. The upload is 3 or 4 times faster because its a Rev. A tower, but the download is 400 to 550. As I said in a unrelated post in the past I figured it was because I was less than a mile from Wal-Mart corporate office, a college, and one of the busier intersections in NW Arkansas, and the tower was loaded down. I do think I would travel to a few different locations and test the card if you have not already. |

For at least some of us, the problems with poor speeds started when Alltel decided to reroute all of our connections through the ByteMobile device.
At first, Alltel cranked in image compression and everyone screamed.
Then Alltel backed off the image compression.
After a while, everyone with broken webpages and cached images got tired and started complaining.
So, Alltel backed off the caching of images.
Now, we are left with our traffic still routed through the ByteMobile device, adding unneeded hops and slowing our traffic. Why?
Probably to monitor and analyze our usage. Some would say that Deep Packet Inspection is probably going on there too. Maybe they are figuring out ways to further monetize our connections.
We are paying for an internet connection, Alltel isn't really delivering that. |

I do enjoy your conspiracy theorism.
But, it makes perfect sense. It would also explain my sudden slow-down in speeds as I live less than 3 miles from the tower and as I stated in another topic, I was practically right next to the tower (RSSI -51) and the speeds didn't change.
I'm going out of town this weekend to a couple of larger cities, I'll test the connection then to see if it's either a: my computer (which it's not), b: the tower, or c: Alltel as a whole.
...I'm leaning on C. |
