I know it;s the weekend, and I'been keeping a check on varios forums, and a few youtube videos,2updates on 3 MacBooks, plus updating FF3 on to all 3 books and Im already sitting at 2850081 just 3-4 days in to this month.Last month I had 15gs used but to of those came from a huge Apple update that dropped off 3 times when it was almost ready to end.

I guess I fall under the high user category, somewhere between 15-30 gigs a month. I guess I could be safe,With just my self just using the card, and parking the phs 300 so that I'm the only one on. I might be able to stay under it if I take all my MacBooks to work and keep them updated on some guys unsecured Com cast line.he must have 802.n because it IS SMOKING FAST,and has awesome range.

The best thing I can hope for is they see most of my work is done at this time of the morning between(2:00/6:00 AM so maybe I'm not bothering others at the time I doing heavy downloads

And If I still get a call Ill just use it to post on cool forums like this hoping something better comes out down the line. Very Happy

Orangepeel,

I wish you the best of luck in your initiative to keep under the 5gb cap! Do try your best to remain under the radar though , as Sprint can exercise its right to terminate you for excessive network usage, and subsequently slap you with that big juicy $200 ETF if you do not terminate voluntarily within 30 days!! Wink

Orangepeel, sounds like you are assuming Sprint will make warning calls. That is not what the T&Cs or the notice on bills after mid May say.

We have already received notice. The way the T&Cs are written, anytime after the "effectve date" Sprint can cancel you and slap you with a $200 ETF the minute you exceed 5 GB. Even though you are still within your 30 day window to voluntarily cancel without an ETF.

You and all the others who choose not to terminate need to discipline their use before they hit 5 GB or they will be at Sprint's mercy. After a month or two of observing how strictly Sprint applies the rules and reading the cries of the victims, perhaps they can loosen up and begiin slipping above 5 Gb to whatever the real trigger threshold is.

Has anyone tried

I think many people are on the Telus connect 100 plan, but live in the USA. (and bill it to a friend/relative in canada)

(since Telus is the only carrier that has unlimited in north america)

This is sort of like having a DirectTV sub in USA address but watching it in Canada.

Not likely as Sprint is giving you the option to quit without ETF's. Verizon tried to slap the cap on everyone them charge them ETF's if they quit and the NY Attorney General filed on them and they had to pay through the nose. Sprint had done it right (for them) in that tye offer you the out without ETF's.

Other than that what would the lawsuit be for? Placing the cap? That unfortunately is their prerogative. Sad

I think they should be forced to provide more accurate/updated more often usage details than what they do currently. Is there any in the software for the 595u, I dont know..never needed to use it since I have my modem set up as dialup over ICS. Yes, I know that I could download a program to monitor it myself, but that wouldn't be "official" and Sprint could always claim a different number from what the software stated my usage was, so I would never trust a 3rd party software app for usage details.

The usage thing on their site has said Ive used 2.8 gb for the last 3 days and Ive been online all 3 days doing lite browsing and a couple youtube videos. I figured it would at least be over 3 GB by now (was worried itd be close to 4 with about 10 days left on my billing cycle).

We need to bombard Sprint and others with emails and Phone calls and let them Know, we want our unlimited data back.

Yeah, I've already updated all my computers,so I shouldn't go up too much more.Honestly, I'm cool with a cap it was more along the lines of 15-20 gigs a month, but for us people out in the sticks it's hard to do ALL your surfing, updates(multiple computers),and every now and then watch a youtube video.I'm keeping a much closer eye on things now,but I don't see me staying under 5 gigs, and I will probably opt out before the 30 days is over.

Collusion. A year ago we had four different providers of 3G internet service in the US, offering unlimited service, at different price points.

By the end of the year we will have 3 providers, offering essentially the same service, at the same price, with the same arbitrary cap on usage. If that doesn't absolutely WREAK of collusion, I don't know what does. You had people leave Verion and move to AT&T and Sprint after Verizon instituted a cap. Then you had people leave AT&T and move to Sprint after AT&T instituted a cap. Now you've got Verizon in the process of merging with Alltel, ensuring that their existing customers must now also deal with the cap, or pay $500/GB in usage fees.

In a competitive marketplace, you shouldn't see companies intentionally driving away customers. Especially a company like Sprint, that needs every subscriber they can get.

I can't "prove it," but when a memo surfaces about how the heads of all three companies got together and decided it would be a good idea to price all 3G service in the US at $60/mo with a 5GB cap and no exceptions or other plans... well, I told you so.

I use Sprint as my main Internet connection. 46GB this month. 43GB last month. I am so screwed, it's not even funny. If they implement overage like Verizon, that kind of usage would cost about $20,000 per month. Correction. Verizon just cut their overage costs in half. So it would only cost me about $10,000 a month. What a steal!

I'm on the phone with Sprint right now. They are telling me that the overage is $0.001/KB.

EDIT: Then I was told (by a contract manager) that there is no overage, instead you get a letter. But I was told this by someone who couldn't do math. They told me it wasn't an issue because I only used 4.4GB. I guess she looked at the 44,437,719KB number, and assumed that was 4.4GB, and not the 42GB that it actually is.

I'd give someone a nickel to call Sprint and ask the CSR if the cap is in gigabits or gigabytes......

(for those less geeky, 5 Gigabits would be about 600MB, or the amount of data on a CD)

Well, after almost a month, I've gotten something definitive from the executive helpdesk person who was assigned to my case. And... It's not really that great.

<SNIP!>

As a follow up to our conversation on June xx, 2008, your total data usage will be limited to 5GB as of July 13, 2008. A few updated facts regarding this change to the terms and conditions of your contract at this time are:

* Exceeding the usage limit does not result in immediate interruption of service.
* The connection device continues operating as normal
* If the usage exceeds the limits during at least two months in the three month measurement period your account is placed into the treatment process; whereby, we will contact you.
* You may be subject to termination of service for violating the Terms and Conditions of your service.
* If the heavy usage continues, the company would first attempt to contact you by phone to discuss the violation of the service terms and eventually, could send you a notice of service termination by mail.

<SNIP!>

So... What I take from this is

a) You don't be disconnected or charged overages. That's good.
b) Over 2 out of 3 months, you'll be yanked, with ETFs applied.

... That's about it.

It could be worse, but, what it appears is that Sprint wants us the hell off their network if you're anything but a smartphone or future iPhone-like-device user.

Just got off an online chat with Sprint CS. Took about 5 mins. to cancel service.

He asked during the chat if I was canceling because of the 5 Gig cap and I of course said yes. He said no problem and canceled with no ETF.

I will miss the Unlimited part, but my new service is faster. 30-40ms pings with 3Mbps down and up to 500kbs up. There is a 20 Gig cap.

The guys that installed it said it wasn't being monitored that much because their customer base wasn't that big yet.

Looks like the local fixed wireless has upgraded there towers and dropped the price.

3-5mpbs down (1mbps base), and 500kbps up.. for $50 p/m.

So just a recap, i have till when to cancel my sprint service?

Just had a friend sign up with Sprint. Plan? Unlimited lol! No mention of pending cap. Also interesting is the fact his on line bill does not contain the usual notice regarding the cap. It use to mention it, but his on line bill only mentions the hearing aid thing with no mention of the cap as before. CSR told him he had unlimited and shows such on his on line account. It amaze me they continue to sell unlimited accounts to new unsuspecting customers even now with the 13th just days away lol!? My friend knew about the cap, but was amazed he was not told nor given any type of notice of information regarding the change effective the 13th?

On his on line bill where it has the link to " Important Information Relating To Your Sprint Bill" only has the following and does not contain the earlier info regarding the 5Gb cap and change in TOS. You'd think they'd have their act together by now eh? Here's what his notice reads versus what many of us had gotten before....Rolling Eyes
