amanda... wow

Their usage details are not active.. Therefore how can they know what your usage is right? Until you see that they are tracking your usage don't worry about it. Even if they do get it working I still wouldn't worry about it. I (like you) signed up for unlimited right? They will do what verizon did give free ETFs or they will have thousands of pissed off customers threatening to sue.

You know it honestly amazes me how many times people have commented on this on various forums.

"Sprint reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred and to deny, terminate, modify, or suspend service if usage exceeds 5GB per month in total or 300MB/month while off-network roaming. Check your subscriber agreement rights on Sprint.com"

I've blown up the key word above. If you exceed 5GB which would be on Sprints network OR <----------------- go over 300MB/month roaming.

I hope you realize what its actually saying now.

Here's what i'm doing if anyone is actually worried about this cap.
I downloaded a free trial 30 day of a bandwidth monitor that costs about 20 dollars. I set it to only track my U727's bandwidth. After the 30 day trial, I will check my "monthly 30 day usage" if it is over 5 gb, I will just know what I will have to cut back on bandwidth intense webpages like youtube, xbox live etc. if I am still under 5 GB under my normal usage styles, I will be just fine.

btw. the program I am using is actually full of all sorts of handy features. if you want to know, I am using Bandwidth Monitor v3.2 build 699.

Okay, I'm going to ask again ...how am I supposed to know that I'm using over 5 GB if there is nowhere to see how much data I'm using a month.

I can see on the SCM how much data I'm using per session but unless I keep track every time I log in and out, how am I suppose to know how much data I'm using per billing cycle?

Amanda,

About the only thing you can do is to look at your previous bills. You can see your most recent bill online. Click on "View latest bill" then click on "Usage summary." Your total KB for the billing period will show up near the center of the screen next to Vision Data. Do the same thing after clicking on billing history and selecting previous bills. I did this to get an average. It should be accurate for me because I don't download much of anything other than web pages.

Even so, I can't see how they can enforce anything until they fix the current usage feature or supply us with third party software.

Not cool at all Sad

Looks like i would have to end up looking into this wireless they have here.

But its just STUPID how much they charge!

http://www.e-vergent.com/site.php?id=plans&sub=0

I live in WI, check out the rates vs speed, then click on Illinois, and check them out. Why does the WI side get ripped off so bad?

Yes, that is going to be the real trouble spot for the telcos. How can they charge those exorbitant fees if they don't provide people with the info so they can control they spending or even stop until the end of the month.

Perhaps a few class action lawsuits will settle that problem.

Maybe they should have a popup on sign up, You have used xx... or a count down thermometer showing how close you are to the limit and then a counter like on the gas pump showing you how much you are spending.

I would hope the courts would be inclined to toss out $5000 charge for an additional 5 Gigs instead of a maximum charge of $59 to match the basic fee.

Well, I think I use my data card a LOT. It is on 24/7 and I use it as my primary connection for my laptop. I surf, email, DL what I need to DL, VPN, etc, etc.

I just checked my bill and I used ~400MB last month.

So, I guess I feel that if I use my card 'a lot' and don't go near 5GB then it would seem to make sense to have additional tariffs for users that need to use their cards 'a crazy lot' over 5GB. I always thought that I would have used far more than 5GB but I guess not.

FWIW - A class action suit only benefits the lawyers. The lawyers are the ones that walk away with major bucks. When have you ever read an article where the winners of a class action suit walk away with a bunch of money? If you are lucky - you will get $5.00! You would be better served if you called all your local TV stations and get it publicized.

That's a good point though... On my monthly bill, they don't even tell me my monthly usage (I have unlimited) all they say is the fee 59.99 and other usage charges (taxes) about 2.00. It has NOTHING about how much bandwidth I have used in the past month. How would they try to limit people without even sharing how much bandwidth they use?

Verizon always listed the usage. When they went to their new program, there was an update to the VZAccess Manager that NOW allows you to see your usage and the date when it will be cleared. So, not to worry - it is probably already in the works.

That real time Usage report is such a joke though. Last night I showed 4,625,500 KB roughly and today I'm showing 4,225,812.55 KB. For some reason some usage will disappear for a day then reappear a day or so later.

I also use DU meter which I highly recommend. I'll post up a few data tracking tools. I really like it because you can setup all different types of alerts. They can be daily, weekly or monthly were you set it to alarm you if you go over so much usage in a given time period. If you want it will auto disconnect you after going over the amount you specify or even shut you computer down if you desire it to. With a possible huge overage charge I could see shutting it down as a good option. I have mine set to alert me at 4.5GB. Also since Verizon does your sign date with them as the start of your rolling 30 days instead of beginning to the end of the month you can change it. Mine resets on the 23rd each month.

Can you tell when my Evdo connection got stable and faster lol?

Also if your using Vista you can use a little sidebar gadget that shows your real time download speed in either KB/s or Kbps whichever you prefer. Tracks multiple accounts and is really customizable. I posted a picture of the actual sidebar meter in image 3. Its a handy feature and I always leave the sidebar gadget up on my 2nd monitor as a visual cue to how fast everything is running.

Thanks, O'Shark, but I can't find anything on my bill that even looks like what you described. I can't find anything at all that refers to "Vision Data" as I have a connection card.

On my "paper" bill, it states this:

Quote:
$ 5 9 . 9 9 C o n n e c t i o n C a r d D a t a Plan
U n l i m i t e d M B o f D a t a
C a l l s M a d e O n C o n n e c t i o n Cards With
V o i c e C a p a b i l i t y W i l l I n c u r A Charge
O f $ . 2 0 P e r M in u t e

On my bill online it says this:

Quote:
We apologize for the inconvenience, but we are unable to display the current data usage for Sprint Connection Cards. Don’t forget that if you currently have unlimited Sprint Vision, a free trial, or a free overage promotion for your data-only plan, you won’t be charged for any data overage. For question or detail about your current usage, please call Sprint Customer Solutions at 1-888-211-4727.

How in the hell can they change the contract mid-stream????!!!!

I signed up for UNLIMITED data usage and by contract, I expect to have UNLIMITED data usage.

If I tried to break the contact, I'd have to pay an ETF. If they break the contract, what recourse do I have??

Now I can see if I sign up for a new contract at the end of my current one, then, yes, they can tell me that if I go over 5 GB a month then I will be subject to termination or have to overage charges assessed.

BUT, they can't start charging me overage charges in my current contract because I signed a contract for UNLIMITED data usage.

Is what I'm saying make any sense?

But will sprint start doing that? Becasue I have the sprint service.

If i were to go into your account and look, the data usage is there as measured in kbs.... Sprint, so far has decided not to yet display this openly yet since with the two billing systems some would display and some would not display your actual usage. Until everyone is on one system... you wont see your usage on your bill

Amanda,

If you sign onto your Sprint account, you should see My Phone and Plan then under that is a box with Billing and Payment inside. JOn that page adn just to the left of that little "Go Green" ad is a link that says View Latest Bill. Click on that and it will take you to the My Bill page. On the left side of the screen is a link that says Usage Summary. Click on that to get to the Usage Summary page. Right below the "phone number" are those words Vision Data (still have no idea what that means) and to the right of that is your KB usage for that month. I'm not sure what is different on your screen. I only have the AC595 modem with Sprint and no other phones.
