In the last week or so, some of my web pages aren't loading properly... (things being omitted). Like forum links/features.

Other WIERDNESS - when I right click on a photo - to pull the link from the properties... I often see something strange... THIS!

The STRANGE url works for me, but no one else... and, I'm reposting the url to hundreds of people. (This won't do!)

Sometimes the url has 1.1.1.1 or 1.1.1.2 instead, I can't ping any of these destinations. Since all machines do the same thing on our network... I assume it's something with alltel.

Any ideas?

yes it is alltel. they are doing some very bad things to there network. I have called several times and they will not acknowledge that they are doing anything. When I asked about the 1.1.1.1 stuff they have told me that was a problem on my end, maybe a virus or they will change the subject. the last couple of days if i go to yahoo i get spanish yahoo or i have gotten dutch yahoo. I am not happy at all what they have done and hopefully I can get out of the last 6 months of my contract if they dont get this fixed quickly.

We appreciate the inquiry about your issue. We do apologize for the inconvenience that this issue has caused you. I do believe there is a change I can make on this end to assist you. I will need an account number or cell phone number off your account to correct this issue. If you can remove the card from the router and get the ESN off the bottom of the card, that should work as well. If you cannot find a specific number that looks like what I am requesting, send all info from the bottom of the card and we can try to locate the info we are requesting.

If you have any other questions, then you can email us back or please call the 1-800-255-8351 number select option 3, three times from a landline number or *611 from a Alltel cell phone other than the one experiencing the issue and we would be glad to assist you.

I've not be real pleased with the service... though it has gotten better over time. I rarely get a drop out now, but they were pretty common... Still for far less money, I've heard that other services have better service and faster service. Also - my card doesn't work in my laptop, only in my router. I have about 5-6 months left as well.

James, please contact DTS (Data Services), 1-800-255-8351, Option 3(3x), to report this issue. A ticket will need to be opened and submitted to Data Engineering for correction. Thank you.

This was after I emailed them about my 45min - 1hour call i initially had with dts where they had me reactivate my card 6 times and then told me 1.1.1.1 might be a virus on my computer.

the second time wasnt much better. He eventually told me to bring my card in to a store to be checked?

I just got off the phone with Data support and I explained to him what was going on he acted like the problem was on my end and I explainded to him I wasn't the only one having the problem.Before I called my speeds had declined from getting 1500 mbps down to 400 and 500 mbps. Well he put me on hold for about 5 minutes and came back and told me to do a speed test this time I got only 148 down and 76up and he said around 4 to 500 was normal and I told him my normal before all this started was around 1500mbps.Well after the 5 minute hold and around a 1/2 hour on the phone my speeds are up a little now I am averaging around 700 to 800 mbps.And he allso said there is no PROXY! And I tryed to have him explain the 1.1.1.1 crap. With no answer.Sorry for the long reply!

It's not a virus. Everyone that has Alltel is reporting it happening to them. Myself included. They are screwing with the network and won't fess up to doing it. I doubt there is going to be any improvements and they won't likely take the 1.1.1.1 proxy server away.

See the "Forcing Downgraded Content" thread.
The 1.1.1.x image site is a "Caching Proxy Server"
You will no longer receive actual images from a website. You will get Alltel's compressed version of that image. If Alltel hasn't compressed that one lately, you will wait while alltel compresses it before sending it to you from a 1.1.1.x address server.

Congratulations Alltel bean counters, you've really hosed this service.

Same exact thing here.. he messed with it and got me stable at 700/100, but my average used to be 1500/100.. I'm very pissed.

This seams like a breach of contract to me. I'm sure we could all easily get out of the 2yr contract.

Some websites don't even load for me (mainly php) and I have to refresh 4-5 times.. this is ridiculous and the speed cuts are pissing me off.

I used to download at stable 100KB/sec+, but now I'm lucky to hit 60-70KB/sec.. It's bullshit.. they halved my speeds for no dang reason.

Your speedtest result is not accurate. It shows how fast your download speed would be, if your images were available on the proxy. Alltel is routing the speed test around the proxy. If you try to use a website that doesn't get much traffic, the first visit will be slow. You will see the lag time for the server to compress the images, then send them to you. Your second attempt to visit the same site will be much quicker, as the images are cached. You are right if I go to a new web page it does load very slow. But data support assured me that we was not going through a proxy!!!! and at the same time he couldn't or wouldn't explain all the 1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1. crap.

I use alltel and EVDO for my company. I'm a pro photographer and I teach on line @ PortraNET.com and my work is HEAVILY PHOTOGRAPHIC! I can no longer work using this service. I'll be pulling the plug is they can't fix me this week.

Alltel doesn't think image quality is a big deal, so they are dumbing down the internet for everyone behind the proxy.
I don't have constant needs for high res images, but I'm not happy that I won't ever be able to get them on Alltel's version of the internet.
The lag on some websites I use is what annoys me the most. If they put up a message, "Please wait while alltel destroys the resolution of the images you are downloading", they would have a few more complaints...

It's not just that. The proxy isn't handling non-html data properly. Often I get javascript or php sent to me as a downloadable file instead of it being rendered. This is their idiot proxies fault.

Being a webdesigner they have set me behind on my debugging work. This is costing me time and time is money. How am I supposed to run a respectable business with dickheads like this screwing with my internet using halfcocked BS technology. When I want to review my debug information I want to review it as intended. Not sent to me as a freaken file. Yes I'm aware I can do all of this locally, but I prefer to do all my work on a real host to insure it's in a real situation. I also allow my customers to view the website for continued update on my progress.

They'll either fix this or my lawyer will. Not doing this crap anymore.

I emailed them Friday, had a reply asking my EVDO card number Friday night. I replied to them sunday and recieved a answer today (Monday).
I had a STRANGE drop out today, usually if I get dropped it reconnects. Today it didn't. So they may have reset something during this time.
Upon reboot of card, router and machine it works again as normal.
