|
|
I'm trying to update to 2.1.0 firmware, but every time I try to upload the bin file I get this:
| Quote: | The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this CradlePoint CTR, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.
If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the CradlePoint CTR may be too busy to properly receive it right now. In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a 'user' instead of an 'admin' - only administrators can upload new firmware.
The CradlePoint CTR will not be reprogrammed. |
I've re-downloaded the firmware 3 times. I'm getting it from here: http://www.cradlepoint.com/ctr350/download.php
I have the wireless turned off and am using it as as a wired router.
Any help? |

1. Clear your browsers cache (temp internet files)
2. Delete the downloaded files
3. Re-download the firmware file (try saving it to a different directory this time)
4. Try re-uploading the firmware file again
What web browser are you using? I find that IE has the best success rate with uploading firmware. Firefox is best if your on OS X. |

Thanks.
I was using Firefox on W2k.
I switched to IE6, cleared the cache, re-downloaded the bin to a new folder, tried again and got the same thing.
Any other thoughts? |

You're not modifying the filename are you?
Got another PC you could try doing the firmware upgrade from? I have a feeling its machine specific, I know that firmware link on CP's site works. |

Not sure what evidence the site admin's have against FireFox not working as good as IE, but FWIW, we test all the CradlePoint routers with both IE and Firefox. You should be fine with either.
I actually tested the Firmware download as a few minutes ago, and then did a binary compare against a known good copy, and it compared perfectly.
FWIW, the fact that CradlePoint does not offer the firmware in a download format that can be verified for corruption has been the source of many complaints from CradelPoint customers.
At the same time, is interesting to read posts about how refreshing it is to deal deal with CradlePoint and how they quickly respond to customer requests. This is one that continues to fall through the cracks, even though it would be so very easy for CradlePoint to offer the file in zip format.
I probably do not have as much experience as 3G (they actually support the product), but let me take a shot at making a guess as to the problem, based on the little experience we have in updating CradlePoint firmware...
Perhaps testing firmware upgrades from all previous firmware versions somehow escaped the CradlePoint QA testing process?
I am going to take a guess that your earlier firmware does not know how to update to the newer version, and sees the file as corrupt?
I would get your current Firmware version number, then visit the following page, and update your firmware, one version at a time, until you get to the latest version:
http://www.cradlepoint.com/techsupport/ctr350support.php
Please let us know if this works for you.

Thanks. I'm using:
| Quote: | Firmware Information
Current Firmware Version : 2.0.1 Latest Firmware Version : 2.0.1
Current Firmware Date : 2008/02/19 |
There appears to be nothing between me and the newest version.
Ideas? |

Can you please explain the need to save to a different directory after deleting the file?

It is obvious that the link works, as the user is able to download the file.
Are you trying to say that the file the link downloads is good?
If so, can you please explain how you know that it is good, since without a way to do a file verification (such as a CRC check), I am unaware of any method that could verify this.

Sure!
Sorry that did not work for you. We had that problem once.
Ok,
Lets check the file you are uploading. It should be exactly 983,040 bytes in size. If not, then it is corrupt.
If you have Winzip, you can zip it down, then right click on the file inside of WinZip, and select "File Properties", and its CRC value should be "BB3CFEA8". If not, then it is corrupt.
If needed, you can send me a private message, and I will email you the file in zip format. When you unzip it, if anything is wrong, you will get an error.
Next idea. Reset the router to factory defaults. I believe you cannot do this with the reset button using the firmware you are running.
1)Log in to the router as an admin.
2) Go to the tools tab.
3) Go to the system page.
4) Choose "Restore Factory Defaults"
Then try uploading again.
Please let us know if this works for you.

| The size checked out. But I switched to 7-Zip some time ago and the old version of WinZip I have (8.0) doesn't show CRC.

That worked. Thanks, Joe. I'm now on 2.1.0.
I saved and restored my settings and they seemed to have survived the upgrade.
This CTR350 really is the cat's meow. |

I am having the same problem. I have tried resetting via the button, and restoring to factor settings as suggested above, no luck. The file size is right, and I know it's a good file because it updated fine on my other 350. The only difference is that the other 350 was upgrading from 1.7, and this one is upgrading from 1.6.
Maybe I need to do an interim upgrade first? |

Sure helped me, and I have two 350's.

| Well that was weird. I still couldn't update, but then I tried it on my EEE, and it worked. I guess it's something in the XP-based browsers that is keeping an update from 1.6. Maybe some security patches or something. |
