My "UNLIMITED" EVDO service is being discontinued by Bell Aliant in New Brunswick, Canada due to "EXCESSIVE" use. How can you "EXCESSIVELY" use an "UNLIMITED" service. Even the CSR's thought it was funny and asked that I not shoot the messenger.
They have offered to allow me to drop to a 1 gig a month plan for $60.00 and $1.00 per meg over that.
Considering that I was using about 30 gigs a month I figure i can't afford that service.
I guess its back to dialup for me!!!!!! |

$30,060 / month is not THAT bad, sure you want to go back to dial up? |

I just got the same phone call today- I swore up a storm at them I was so mad. I'm going to make some noise over this shenannigan. If it's not unlimited, then tell us what the limitation is for cripes sake! I'm curious to know how many people they're screwing over this week- if they do this, I'm leaving aliant and not going back. _________________ Aliant Sucks! |

The bell aliant csr said he had 39 more customers on his list to call today. They have changed the pricing on their website and no unlimited plan is listed anymore.
I think if I sell my house and cars I could, possibly, afford to stay connected for a couple of months more, hehe. |

Odd...Verizon did the exact same thing a few months ago. So far, I haven't received a call from Alltel. And, I know for a fact that I pull in at least 8 gigs a week.
What can I say? I love YouTube and Netflix's online movies. |

I wish I had an alternative, even my local dial-up is bell aliant. Hey Babrbarossa...If you get anywhere with bell aliant let me know. I went as far up the corporate ladder as I was allowed to. All I got was giggling from them. I was told I would be getting a registered letter this week to formalize my disconnection. They were kind enough to offer to cancel me without a penalty. Unbelievable.

Below is the text included in the complaint I lodged online with the: Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications Services in Canada.
On March 25th I received a call regarding my Unlimited data to go wireless internet package. I was told that my UNLIMITED data package ($75.00/month) is being discontinued due to EXCESSIVE use. Excessive use was never defined by the provider of the dervice, Bell Aliant, during my 4 months on the service.
The option I was left with is...remain on the service but be moved to a 1 gigabyte data plan for $60.00/month and pay $1.00 per megabyte over that.
Considering that my data usage averaged 23333.45650475 meagabytes per month in my 4 months on the service I would be left with a bill averaging $23392.47 plus tax per month for a total of $26433.49. If this seems ridiculous, it is.
I was sold an unlimited data package. I spoke with Aliant CSR's while I was researching the product and I was assured repeatedly that there were no limits on the amount of data that could be downloaded. Now my service is being discontinued. A resonable person would presume that unlimited means just what it says "unlimited".
How can a user EXCESSIVELY use a product that is advertised as being UNLIMITED? |

If the modified plan was 1 dollar per gigabyte, it would be understandable. If you have a copy of the Customer Agreement which should have been given to you (not the one they'll give you now - I'm sure it's been gimped out), go through it with a fine tooth comb.
If it were me, I wouldn't stop until someone lost their job over it. And, that's exactly what will happen if Alltel calls me with similar garbage. |

Alltel seems to go more along the lines of how Sprint runs their service, so I'm not too worried about this. |

I'm still waiting for the registered letter to inform me officially. I wonder if those that complain the most get left alone.
I filled out the online form on the website of the Commissioner of Telecommunications and my complaint was responded to promply.
Perhaps it will make no difference but everyone should complain to the Commisioner and the news media. Aliant should not be allowed to get away with this.
Telus confirmed that they use Aliant towers and a different modem is required.
In my conversation with Telus they confirmed, even after my explanation about Aliant, that unlimited is in fact unlimited. They do have a disclaimer in their terms of service though but claimed that none of their customers have ever been cancelled or limited. |

I was just on the Aliant website....The "UNLIMITED" offer that was there yesterday is no longer being advertised.
If we buy the Telus service...How long will it be before Bell aliant puts the clamps on Telus? |

I am not sure about your comment on aliant putting the clamps on telus or if they can.
I wish i had the money to bring this issue up with a lawyer to see if bell can basically make a contract and cancel it. based on usage of an unlimited plan.
I can't help but wonder if bells intent in all this was to sell off these evdo devices by promoting a plan that you can't get modem or activation fees back from.
well my new aliant slogan is
evdo hispeed just one more way bell aliant is here to f**k you. |

A class action against Bell could be a proper solution.
I just switched to Telus... |
