KR1 Router Amplifier

It will double the range whether it is b/g or n . Of course if it was all "n" it would do even better than that. I have a Belkin N connected to my Cradlepoint and the range is amazing with my "g" enabled laptops. I also see other wireless networks around me I've not seen previously due to distance. It was quite a dramatic increase.

I just don't think you're going to get the coverage you want with the KR1 unless you did something like I've done and that is... have a router that you can flash with 3rd party firmware and turn up the transmit power. I run my KR1 through my faithful old WRT54G which has the DD-WRT firmware that allows for such (wireless mode OFF in KR1). Be careful though as most the new Linksys routers cannot be flashed with 3rd party firmware for such. They've locked them up and I'm unaware of any 3rd party firmware for such with the KR1. I can easily get the 1,000 feet with mine and using only 9dbi antennas indoor on the router, Even if you use a good outdoor omni directional antenna in your booth the KR1 just doesn't have the transmit power you need to reach that far.

your probably right, hence my interest in an external bi-directional amplifier.

The newer routers might help, but also consider combining them with directional or "omnidirectional" antennae. The omnis basically focus the output into a more squashed circle - lower height, greater diameter. With some directionality, you can go from the KR1 to two other routers, one left and one right (preferably different channels). Beyond extending that idea, WDS - get some airport express units and put them at the farther intervals.
