| Based off the 4 AAs containing 12 watts and running 3.5 hours and this pack containing 50 watts, it should run about 14.5 hours straight. The price of admission seem to be about $125 before tips and adapters, though. |

Well I decided to power the unit on tonight at 7:50pm and I am letting it broadcast the Wifi and it is powering the Verizon card. Granted I am sure the verizon card will disconnect after some time of no activity but both the USB727 and the router are still going to drain power from the battery pack. I will let it run till tomorrow morning at 7:50am and I will check it's battery status. Then I will continue to let it drain until tomorrow night at 7:50pm and see where the power status is. Then if it is still going I will let it continue to go till it shuts down. I will keep you all posted on the end result.
Also in regards to the tips / cost. First it comes with the proper tips to power the CTR350 so you will not need to buy anything else other than the battery pack. And in terms of cost, well this unit is MUCH more than a 4 pack AA battery solution. Not only does it last much longer, it also has the ability to power other USB devices up to laptops that require up to 19v and 5 amps. So if you are out and about and need emergency power this unit can be a very nice handy tool to have around.
Granted a 4 pack AA solution is MUCH cheaper and a little lighter, but I think the versatility for me is well worth the additional cost.

Yes planning on that but I first want to do the test above to see how long it can go in this state. The reason I want to not do a ping test solution is that even with a REAL WORLD scenario, no one ACTIVELY uses the wireless and EVDO connection 24x7 unless they are serving a bit torrent. 
I am planning on then using the wifi/evdo connection as my PRIMARY internet connection one day at the office (I am NOT going to be very happy at the end of the day going form my internet connection: 15mb down / 2mb up to an EVDO-A connection!) 
But then with one day usage I can figure out an approximate total battery time from the total battery capacity remaining.

Hey Alex I must say thank You!
I can not believe that I am a walking wireless hot spot.
Just as you said and it all fits in my shirt pocket.
4 double AA’s Now all l need is to source a mini USB 3” cord and I can put my 720 modem flat beside the cradle point
See I walk around with several tablets and a projector and now I am instantly doing remote wireless web presentations.
This setup is a serious show stopper with real shock and awe.
Only problem is that my wife thinks I’m over the edge with my a flashing blue modem light coming out of my shirt pocket.
Now I say if I start wearing the antennae Booster on my cowboy hat then she has probable cause to divorce me.
And ALEX it will be all your fault!! Can You Live with that!!
Watch for me in Starbuck’s not paying $10 to read my email.
It is the flashing blue lights in my shirt pocket or that un-tanned skin were my wedding band used to be that will give my identity a way.
Now all I need a small rechargeable battery pack that will last all day, hmmm 4 D cells should do the trick, but will look a little bulk of ay in the shirt pocket hmmm?
Definetley getting the 727 to reduce foot print even more. But of

Ok, I was a little late on my first check in which instead of 7:50am was 8:20am. The battery meter shows only about 25% battery drain for 12.5 hours of continuos connection of the router and the EVDO modem with no active clients. At this point I should get about a full 2 days (48 hours) of battery life in that setup. I am going to speed up the process and advance to the office test where it is going to be actively used through out the day and get back to you guys on the total battery drain during that 12 hour period.

Those number are excellent.
It might be worth doing the unloaded test (to total battery discharge) and a ping test (to total battery discharge). [The second will keep the modem alive without using lots of bandwidth.]
This would tell us the range of runtimes that can be had out of that power window.
Obviously, as you pointed out, no one will ever max out the connect time, unless they are downloading or streaming. [I suspect that any transfer that keeps the radio alive will draw much more current. I don't believe that max data rate will increase it significantly, but I have been wrong before.]
Those two extents will be telling, as there may be a huge difference between them.
The only manufacturer that I could find published power specs on is Novatel (the card with specs is the PC720 or the X720). [Where is the 727 on their site?]
Their number are vague, but they indicate a maximum current draw of 150mA during idle and a maximum of 1000mA during transmit (@3.3 vdc). This is a 6 and 2/3rds increase in power when the radio is running.
Obviously, as large battery with longer runtimes allows my crude power versus time estimations to be tuned more toward better estimations.

Just FYI... I am gearing up to do battery draw testing among many EVDO devices (or all of them, over time. hard to say)
Only a matter of time before I can pull it off.
But its definitely in the works!  |

Ok, I am back from using the above configuration over a 12 hour period. I basically turned everything on and had the iPhone connected by WIFI checking mail every 15 min. I had my laptop browsing / email, and downloading a torrent file (testing only). Off and on through the 12 hour period. I would say active laptop usage would have been a total of about 6 hours and the iPhone for the whole 12 hour period. In addition on the iPhone I was browsing and doing other misc internet activity.
All that and the battery meter on the battery pack still showed only a 25% battery drain. Next test which I will start sometime tomorrow is going to be an active ping test over a 12 hour period. I will also run a ping test over the Thanksgiving holiday for a complete battery drain instead of the 12 hour testing period.

Do you have any way of automating an email to yourself say every hour. Thus when you do not get an email you could assume that the Cradelpoint's battery pack died during that hour.
On the Mac side Calendar will send an email for scheduled events and maybe Outlook or something else will on Windows.
Note: I found that sending myself an email saying "Wake Up" was essentially useless. |

I do not need to do that. I have tools that I use with our servers and routers that will look for the routers IP address and if there is no response from the routers interface I will be notified that it has failed and no longer available. At that point I would know that there is no power going to the router and the battery pack has failed.

Well I just finished a 12 hour active ping test from a Mac mini connected through WIFI pinging an outside server AND off and on internet usage from a MBP through WIFI during the same 12 hour period and the battery drain was still at only 25%.
At this point the battery drain does not seem to change much with or without activity. I am sure there is more drain but not enough to make a HUGE change.
