I went from 600kbs down to 160kbs down with the openwrt firmware.
Upload stayed the same.
Ping went from 160ms to 600-700ms.
Sorry, but what is the point of this firmware exactly?
(Sorry I thought I clicked the edit button but I clicked the quote button.)
Edit*
Is it smart or something? The longer it's running and the more I stress test it the higher my speeds are getting. They're nearly double what they were on the linksys firmware now... _________________ Merlin S720 |

No.. I don't see why that would happen.
Note that just because this firmware is "fixed" for upload speeds, it doesn't garuntee that you will get better upload speeds. The distance to the tower affects upload speeds immensely. You can have great download speeds, but have slow upload speeds even if the router is capable. Your download is a signal sent from the tower to your card, but your upload is a signal sent from your card back to the tower. As you get further away from the tower your upload speeds will deteriorate much faster than your download speeds, because the card's signal output strength is much weaker than the towers.
That happens to be the case for me.. and I don't think ill be buying a signal booster anytime soon. What kind of speeds do you get in a laptop (in about the same place as the router)?
AND I've made a trac and svn for developers. The next release will be up soon also. |

Installed the White Russian firmware into my router and it came up. Now let's see if it'll hold a connection for 24 hours straight.. If it can do that, them it's solid.. If not, i'll reflash it with the Linksys firmware and send the cusser back to Sprint for a refund.
EDIT:
I did have one error that kept cropping up when I was trying to use dial on demand.
/usr/sbin/pppd: invalid numeric parameter '$[DEMAND*60]' for idle option
The keepalive deamon is too pesky, restting my connection when I max out my bandwidth. Is there a way to adjust it to keep it from dumping my connection?
And also, where is the MTU settings located at? |

thanks for pointing that out.. looks like theres a simple syntax error in my script. Ill fix that as soon as I can.

yes. I was going to allow the setting to be specified in the network config page, but I forgot.
click this link
http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/webif/system-editor.sh?path=/bin&edit=keepalive
it should take you an editor that has the keepalive script open. Look for this near the top of the file:
| Code: | # Maximum packet loss percentage
MAX=65 |
Try increasing it to 75, 85 or 95

thats something that should be added to the network page.. again thanks for pointing it out. It does default to 1492 though. |

I am a little confused about which version is available for download at the moment. On the first post that was updated on the 25th, it has two download links. Are those for the 1.0 or the 1.1 release of the firmware?
I do see that the change-log has been posted, however I am not sure if that means that the updated firmware is already posted or if it is the older (1.0) version.
Thank you for all of your hard work! =)

| No, not that I know of. It should work though.. I don't know why it wouldn't. |

I wrote a small script that I made available on another thread that keeps me connected perfectly thus far. The connection does drop from time to time but is reconnected in under 2 mins in most cases, and I don't have to touch a thing.

http://tools.assembla.com/openwrt-3g
has source and info on SVN building and compiling. If you browse the ImageBuilder files, the /files directory is copied over to the root of the router. Thats where all of the scripts are.
If anyone wants developer access to the SVN let me know i'd be glad to have some help. |

I will check out how svn and all that works, never used it before. I was an ok coder back in the day. Now I am o-k- at best. But I am good at finding problems.

It ditched my connection and refused to connect after 6 hours running. Even with cold reboots (unplugging the wall wart) it refused to cooperate.
I think the firmware did help some, but something else is screwy, perhaps the router itself. Anyway, i'm at the end of my rope with linksys. So i'm going to pack it up and get a refund.
Then go buy a nice one out of 3Gstore.
Sorry wizard, your work on the firmware did alot for the router, but the hardware simply let me down. |

You should try pokeys original firmware with my script.. I have no issues.. Mr. Wizard is working hard and I don't discount, but for now it may be the best thing. Have you checked signal levels and all that ?

Nighthawke70,
could you provide some error messages maybe so I can figure out whats going wrong?
go to status > mobile broadband on your routers config pages, and paste the output under Connection Log.
also what card/provider do you have? |
