Well I also loaded the firmware on my router and had issues seeing it via WIFI. I used a cat5 cable to trouble shoot. I realized that my issue was because the DHCP server somehow got disabled, the wifi was actually working fine but wouldn't serve out IP address to my clients. I also had trouble with my Sprint S720 connecting to the internet upon boot/reboot. I finally got it connected but I had to manually tell it to connect. During the trouble shooting process I determined it was probably a better idea to revert back to the original OpenWrt firmware. I used the provided .trx file however I keep getting errors, so I ended up having to install the latest Linksys 2.0.9 and then upgrade back to the OpenWrt that was posted a few months ago. I will be willing to test it again for ya evdo-wizard maybe there are still a few bugs.
ps I finally got dyndns working on the old release just fine had to install ez-ipupdate and setup a file in /etc/init.d to run it at boot!
Thanks for the hard work!!! |

I had problems with this firmware are first; couldn't get it to work; then I noticed the "you may have to restart". I couldn't get it to work at all until I did that (turning the router off completely didn't work either).
Anyway, it's working great now; I'll have to keep an eye on latency, speed, and stability over the next week before I give it my 100% go.
Still, looking good so far! Thanks EVDO-Wizard! I appreciate this. |

Do you have more info on this WiFi problem. It has worked perfectly on the 2 routers I have tried it on. One using sprint the other verizon service.
There is a processes tab it should have:
590 ROOT WiFi Up Listed Does it?
Is your router suppose to serve up IP Addresses?....Make sure DHCP turned on. Sorry if this advice is 'help desk' like.
Also, are you getting any errors when you attempt to manually connect to Internet such as 'Invalid /etc/ppp/filter' which indicates that you did not provide a username for your broandband service. Sprint requires a user name just not a password or APName
Remember when you make changes and selections you must use the [Save Changes] button if available and select Apply Changes on the bottom right corner of the pages.
With out more info, difficult to help.
I am no expert but I have had both the Linksys Firmware beta for about a month and the last couple of OpenWRT attempts and I like the performance of this one the best. It is about 2/3 size of Linksys's last attempt and a bit faster. Agreed some of the stuff may be abit early but considering the grief people are experiencing over the upload issue and the slow response of sprint technical support, I applaud Evdo-wizard and heavilyArmedPokey for this. Worked flawlessly so far - for me and I love the control having the source gives me.

| I also forgot to mention that Web Configuration screens/pages in this firmware 'webif' just plain works better (i.e. graphs, menus, etc) if you use Mozilla Firefox instead of IE. You can download Firefox free from www.mozilla.com and you do not have to make it your primary browser. |

Im using Sprint with the Novatel S720 card. I too have tried restarting with no positive results. The WiFi light is on but I do not see it show up in any of my other computers as a WiFi choice. Yes, I did have an Ethernet cable connected for installation purposes.
I'll be checking back here for any updates.
Thanks again for your dedication to this.

I'm afraid I cannot give this firmware the 100% "Go". It appeared fine, last night, but upon using it this morning I have been having some major problems; upon reverting back to the Linksys firmware, then reinstalling the other OpenWRT firmware, the problems abated.
Basically, I was experiencing time-outs galore, increased latency, and unfair bandwidth access between two computers (normally a free-for-all...it became "whoever starts downloading first, gets 95% of the connection). |

I'm sorry about all the issues everybody is having, but being the first release I kind of expected it. I've fixed several bugs already and cleaned up some code, and I'm about ready to release a new version (1.1).
Here are some things that might help with general problems.
- When you setup your network on the router, be sure to save then apply changes.
- If you're having wifi problems, on your router go to Network > DHCP, modify lan and make sure that DHCP is enabled. |

I have a couple Linksys routers and both My wife and I have unlimited service. I actually use a failover scheme where sprint fails over to sprint which fails over to verizon (verizon is a dog in my area). Anyway, I have and am willing to test your stuff. Currently I am running Linksys beta on one and yours on the other.
I thought I had found a problem today but it turned out to be maintenance on the sprint server as the other router didn't do any better during this period. Anyway, please post changes where I can get them and I will be happy to give you some side by side testing feedback.
The only problem I have had was an unexplained requirement to enter a username for sprint service to get rid of the '/etc/ppp/filter' error when attempting to connect. Sprint has a 'stupid mode' that should not require this.
Thanks for your work on this.

hey evdo-wizard, I've been posting to one of the other threads, not realizing you've branched off to this one with your firmware.
Could you possibly post your code for the speed fix somewhere? I'd like to branch this off to a forum for those of us that don't have the WRT54G3G but are instead using a USB enabled router (like a hacked WRT54G or what I have, the Asus WL-500g) with one of the USB EVDO modems. |

I already have.. though it would be kind of hard to dig through and find it. They're in this package:
OpenWrt-Buildroot-3G.zip
to find the patches for usbserial, go to /whiterussian/openwrt/target/linux/linux-2.4/patches/generic/
theres 219-usbserial_buffer.patch which is the speed fix patch
then theres 220-usbserial_3g_cards.patch which is also a patch to usbserial, that makes it automatically identify pcmcia evdo cards (may not be of much use to you if you're using usb evdo).
an update on the firmware: I've made a LOT of fixes and code changes, the scripts are much cleaner and efficient now. I'll release v1.1 soon. |

For some reason that link won't let me download, says something about a password. Maybe I need an account, not sure.
I'm going to go tonight with the firmware originally posted by HeavilyArmedPokey in the other forum, as I realized it would probably get me going. I assume your updates are based off of his? |

No, actually its not based off of any of the work that HeavilyArmedPokey did, but naturally the two firmwares have a lot in common since they are both OpenWRT.
Really, the only work that I or HeavilyArmedPokey did was just add a few scripts here or there onto the OpenWRT firmware, then package it all up.
About the password thing.. I really have no idea why that file was deleted (there was no password). Anyway, here's the patch:

Hi evdo-wizard
I've been looking for a soluction to connection drop issue on my WRT54G3G (not WRT54G3G-ST) over the past few weeks and finally came to this site. I've got Novatel Merlin XU870 as PCI express broadband card.
After reading your post about the new rom update I think that it addressed all my issues and I really like to try it out on my WRT54G3G if it's compatible. If you can tell me the possibility I really appreciate it.
If it's not relevant to this topic please delete it. Thanks. |

I just went 5 rounds with a Rei in the Phillippines that was part of Linksys. We reflashed the router with sprint's firmware. 3 hours later, the router did the same thing. She promised to call me back sunday, so guess what i'm going to tell her.
Bottom line is just that, Linksys has a decent product, but Sprint's programmer are robbing them of their profits because of their shoddy coding. Linksys must be made aware of that for they won't be able to sell anything because of that issue. If they cannot collaborate and get a decent firmware cut and submitted, then we all simply have a bunch of expensive bricks.
My return warranty time is nearly up for the router so I have some decisions to make on this matter. Either I return the unit, buy a decent router from 3Gstores, or take the dip and flash it with wizard's custom-cut software.
But it does need to be known to both companies that Linksys is getting ripped off because of the crappy firmware that Sprint is putting out. They will not like that one bit either, for that is undercutting their profits and their corporate relationship with Sprint, something that neither want.
They don't give a flying crap about their customers, but the broad hints of their profits becoming endangered will get their attention. |

Well I installed it and I'm seeing no performance upgrade what so ever. Still 40-50kbs upload speeds. _________________ Merlin S720 |
