Wimax is not in the cards for Starbucks. They have recently dropped T-Mobile in favor of ATT, which will be taking over market-by-market starting in Q2 this year. _________________ evdo-tips.com |

Starbucks wireless is now managed by ATT, which doesn't have any plans for WiMAX, except in SE where they have the spectrum and can't deliver dsl/uVerse.
But any market Sprint/Clearwire or any other provider deploys WiMAX, it should work in a Starbucks.
BTW, Sprint/Clearwire aren't the only two in the US. There are many small players deploying in small towns already. |

Chinese-based Zyxel has started shipping limited quantities of a gateway/router with advanced features that was designed for the Sprint XOHM service.
As the launch of the XOHM network approaches Zyxel factories are expected to increase production.

Sprint Nextel’s CEO Dan Hesse said today the soft launch of XOHM in Baltimore, Washington DC and Chicago is encouraging, and that he feels.... “Sprint has an enormous asset—nearly 100 megahertz of un-utilized spectrum—and we have the opportunity to have a three-year head start with our Xohm service, true wireless broadband with multi-megabit speed”. He also said dual-mode CDMA/WiMAX devices would be introduced later this year. He indicated the dual-mode devices probably would be needed if too many people sign-up for the unlimited data plan. |

I have a feeling that article meant to say "...introduce dual-mode EVDO/WiMAX devices..."
A "dual mode CDMA/WiMAX device" in the context of data congestion is ambiguous at best. |

| I just hope that the dual-card is 1xRTT+EVDO+WiMAX (likely). Also, if they do that, they might as well give it WiFi capabilities--that way it can be set up so that you can have seamless roaming between the 4 (plus the ability to assign which has the highest and lowest priority). |

| These wild rumors from the same market manipulating rumormongers that inteligently speculated on Sprint's 60 dollar unlimited plan or the SK Telecom takeover or the Comcast takeover or the Verizon takeover or the......!!!!! Give me a break! DT can get a fire sale price right now but will have headaches for the next 10 years trying to juggle 3 actually 4 networks when T Mo deploys 3G. |

T-Mobile really wouldn't have any reason to....T-Mobile is GSM, where as Sprint is CMDA...if you thought Sprint's expenses for incorporating iDen were crazy, you haven't seen anything yet.
I really doubt this'll happen.
The only company that would benefit (greatly) from purchasing Sprint would be Verizon (or Sprint purchasing Verizon)....as they're the only other major CDMA provider (and the FCC would probably block that merger/sale). |

Only a foreign company would buy Sprint methinks given the weak dollar, but DT isn't a very good fit at all. Maybe British Telecom or SK.
But yeah, the analysts haven't been too on target with Sprint. |

| A foreign company couldn't buy sprint. A few years back one tried but theres some law or such that prohibits it. |

You might be able to get seamless transitions between 1xRTT, EVDO, and WiMAX because the carriers could work together to handle the routing of the devices IP adderss.
On the other hand, trying to do seamless routing from a device behind a NAT router on somebody's private LAN over to a publicly routeable IP address on the wireless carriers network is going to be near impossible. You'll end up with sustained data connections broken in that instance. I can see them working some magic for voice calls though to do just this. It could be close to seamless roaming between wifi and 3/4G.
