Yeah, it is quite frustrating. Hopefully Michael comes back and contacts his "sprint" people and can get this fixed for us again.

Mooch,
Port 80 is the standard port for surfing non-secure web pages. You can tell if the rest of your system is functioning by pinging www.google.com. Just start a command line and type 'ping www.google.com'. If it resolves google to an ip address then your DNS - Domain Namelookup Service is working. The Port 80 blocking does not affect DNS. It seems to work fine.
Micheal posted earlier a way to prove that port 80 is blocked but other web ports such as secure port 8080 is functional. Here is what he said:
When you are being blocked on port 80, type the following URL in:
http://209.242.15.88:8080/
DOes it ask you to login with a name & password, well then port 8080 is working, just not port 80.
Hope this helps.
FYI: I have experienced this in both East Tennessee and Middle Tennessee in the last 3 days. |

I too seem to be having the same problem. Frequently, I cannot access sites and have to disconnect and reconnect or just let the problem resolve itself. However, during these downtimes, I am still able to connect to my gmail via outlook and xbox live (both of which are not on port 80). I feel slightly helpless, as it seems there's nothing we can do about it. Hopefully, Sprint will take responsibility and remedy the situation.
I am using the following:
Linksys WRT54G3G-ST
Pantech PX-500
Problem occurs on both:
Dell Dimension 4600 XP Pro
Dell Inspiron 600m XP Pro |

For Macintosh
Yesterday I downloaded the update to MacPilot and select the Network icon and then selected Apple FIOS broadband tuner in the Network Preset popup menu. I clicked Load Preset and Apply Changes and the changes were:
kern.ipc.maxsockbuf: 524288 -> 512000
net.inet.tcp.recvspace: 65536 -> 358400
net.inet.tcp.sendspace: 2048 -> 131072
net.inet.udp.recvspace: 265152 -> 73728
The stalls seem to have stopped and now I am getting 1100+ up and over 400+ down somewhat consistently. Perhaps a coincidence? But perhaps Sprint has finished whatever work they were doing?
The full configurations I am now using are (and mean little to me):

PrimaryHA: 68.28.241.76
SecondaryHA: 68.28.249.76
That is what was programmed into my card that is causing all the issues. |

These are also what I have for HA. I am still having issues too. Unfortunately, I did upgrade to the latest SCM a while back and cannot seem to change my HA any longer. Does anyone know where you can get a copy of previous SCM? |

I signed up with Sprint on Labor day. Went whole hog: Dir-450, wilson trucker ant, wilson amp, pantech 500. I live in east bumble and now get -62 evdo 1.5mb down on a good day. 11/20, pages stopped loading. I've been fighting with sprint since. Countless calls/techs, 3 tickets - "tower fixed, bad card, my PCs (all 3!), SCM version" blah blah. I even have an old thinkpad I throw the card in when on the phone so they can't blame the router. I go days with no or little problem then some days I have almost no service. I'm considering using the "fee change letting sprint users out of ETF" (see dslreports.com), calling BBB, local TV to give them bad press, this is awful!! Maybe I'll get a lawyer. I'm really PO'd.
I tried the 8080 test this am and it looks like port 80 block problem. I'm in area7 (28092 - western NC).
I've been working with computers since '82, I know that when things work 1 minute then not the next its a network problem, DUH!. What is the deal with Sprint? Do they like seeing Verizon eat their lunch?? |

Hopefully when the new CEO gets up to speed after the first of the year Sprint can start to clean up the big problems with customer service. The problems with Sprint CS got much worse after the merger with Nextel. How about sending an old fashioned letter to the office of Dan Hesse CEO, it could help. Threats with lawyers will fall on deaf ears, Sprint has a very large legal department. |

I hear ya, I'm venting. What can the little guy do? This has literally become a 2nd job - 20+ calls at 2-4 hrs a pop. I was hoping this forum might get to somebody who cares at Sprint. Don't get me wrong, each rep I spoke with was great (all but 1 or 2 anyway) but I had to completely start over on every call, even though they all told me this was all documented in my account and that they were familiar with this forum and dslreports (many postings on this problem there too). I'm paying $60/mo for a service that isn't reliable. |

| Since we are getting less than 50% service per day, I think we should get a 50% reduction in the monthly fee. Service for me was quite reliable until a month or so ago... |

It is very strange that it is so sporadic. Up until the last couple of days it was just merely a PITA for me. The behaviour in the last two days is simply unacceptable.
I guess I've been assuming that they would be dealing with this immediately because the reliability is so obviously bad, and *markedly* worse lately. It's not as if it has always been lousy.
Guess I'll have to try to get through, but I *sure* can't afford to spend hours on the phone with them.
I tried the 8080 site mentioned above and works every time even while normal usage doesn't. |

| I have been also experiencing sporadic service. I would be on and a minute later have to reboot(connected directly to computer usb or ctr350,no difference (ctr350, tools-system-reboot)) and would work fine for a while(minutes to maybe an hour) Talked to spr1nt, no help. I had already downloaded new scm, uninstalled it downloaded it again uninstalled it and loaded the one on disc that came with my 595u. no help. Then I did two things at once and I don't know which one helped. I took the battery out of the 595u, reinstalled it, and changed my ha from 68.28.249.76,,68.28.241.76 to different ones. Now for the first time in weeks I have no connection problems. It was on all day yesterday and all night last night and so far all day today without one single disconnect or reboot. I thought it might be a problem with the ctr at first but that little router works great. I have it hardwired to my desktop thru ethernet port and have two laptops connected wirelessly. My download speeds are higher and more consistent with the router than without. I finally found where I wrote it down... new ha that work for me 68.28.81.77,,68.28.153.77.. If this works for enough people then maybe spr1nt will fix the system. |
