| I have a kyocera 650 aircard, and purchased a kr1 from 3g store. Have had it for arround 6 months. Refering to a previous post about Wildblue, this is 1000 times better, stay away from Wildblue! But I have had the same problem, with disconnects, can tell you with experience it is worse when data traffic slows. Same thing you notice nothing works, look at the kr1, and in a few seconds the WAN light goes out. Have to reboot, like clockwork. I have 2 computers connected directly to kr1 with cable, when you disable the wireless, it seems better, but still does it. I've used versions 1008, 1010, 1011, all the same thing. I believe it's the router, am about to buy a different router if I can find one. I've talked to 3g store, kyocera, alltell. No real answers other than try it in a laptop. Uhhh I don't have a laptop, and that's not how I use it, so what's the point. That's my story. |

It seems there are 2 threads that are talking about the same problem. I just posted this in the other thread;
I live in Chiang Mai, Thailand where we have a EVDO service that works fine with my Sierra Aircard in my laptop. I recently purchased a KR1 so that other members of my family could share the connection. I have subsequently experienced the exact same problems related in this thread.
There are 2 quite separate and different issues that are unrelated to the card you use;
1. The wireless side is unstable, has poor signal and slow DNS resulting in lost (wireless) connections frequently. Easy solution for me - disable the wireless and connect my old D-Link wireless access point to the KR1 with a cable.
2. The KR1 constantly drops the EVDO connection. Often a reboot is the only way to reconnect. This NEVER happens to me with the card in my laptop so it cannot be a question of signal. Solution - trash the KR1, put the card in an old laptop and share the connection via my D-Link access point.
The KR1 is just not up to the job. I have tried just about every firmware version there is and they do not resolve either of the issues mentioned above. Kyocera / D-Link should be ashamed of themselves for bringing this product to market. |

| Just some update info, The KPC-650 and KR1 still working and still at 12 hrs shutdown or at random times 4 times in a hour or two or three at a hour then runs for twelve and ...yep. Partial solution, Shut down when not being used. and added the 120 volt charger or whatever to the power serge, card stops, Do a off/on and the kr restarts and the 650 a few seconds later and up again till we shut down or it does...again. Not the best but better than the 12 volt.. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the disconnects Both computers on and wi-fi running and one or both uploading or downloading and/or surfing and no warning..one second on next off. Router still connected but card disconnected[solid blue]. Waiting for the new stuff to release and hope tested for debugging.....Ho Hum....One other thing, Solid green light for status will sometimes remain green or just disappear?? Maybe a yellow or red once in a while but most times solid green..Weird!!! Just as random as the card itself! |

Got mine from the G3 store and happy......except.......yep the same issues running a Verizon USB 720. Reboot solves it. Card works fine in laptop as well so it as stated a problem in the KR1 itself. Firmware is also up to date.
It wouldn't do me any good to have G3 swap it out, just to wait for another one that will do the same thing. I think the folks at G3 need to talk to somebody at developers end for a fic. It's so widespread you'd think they'd find a fix by now!?
What irks me is everyone, not just G3 is selling these things with known issues yet nobody has an answer. Never was a D-Link fan to begin with and my old faithful pumped up WTR54G slam dunks. The folks at D-Link and Kyocera obviously know of this issue and either don't care or simply can't find the fix. Plain and simple. I see it a dying breed soon if they don't. too much money for something that does not work correctly.

My KR1 problems started a few weeks ago. I had the old Merlin s620 and starting having connection problems so I upgraded the card to the s720 and it just seemed to disconnect overnight. Now it disconnects constantly throughout the day and has to be rebooted in order to get online.
I disabled the wireless feature of the KR1 and plugged in my old linksys wireless router but that didn't solve the problem. To add insult to injury I can not re-enable the wireless service on the KR1 so I am stuck with the two routers chained together and constant disconnects. I just hope it stays connected long enough for me to finish this post...
Tech support is a joke as it is with most companies so I would suggest not even buying or returning the KR1 if you can. I am beyond my warranty of course so I am screwed, my only hope is that DSL will come available in my area soon. I spent way too much money already trying to resolve this with nothing to show for it but less money in my wallet.
I bought my KR1 almost a year ago and my linksys router more than a year before that. If the KR1 will only last a year I would stick with linksys and avoid d-link and KR1 altogether. If I had it to do over again I would have gotten dial up until the linksys router was available rather than buying the KR1. |

| Add me to the list of disgruntled KR1 owners. I have experienced all of the previously mentioned problems with this device. My problem was I moved into a new neighborhood too far to get DSL. Our local Cable company has a monopoly on the area and after a year of dealing with their garbage, I dropped them. My solution was to go EVDO, so I bought the USB720. Although a great device, I quickly realized it's biggest limitation - NO ROUTER SUPPORT!!! My wife works from home a lot and we require multiple PC's with interent access. My only solution to share the 720 connection was the KR1 (How another company has not jumped on this MAJOR 720 opportunity is beyone me. Read the posts Linksys!! There are miserable customers out here dying for USB720 support!!) Long story short and you've heard it before, 720 works great when connected straight to the PC, constant reboots and dropped connections when connected through the KR1, pissed off wife, etc. My solution is a sad one. In the year or so I've wasted screwing around with this thing, DSL became available in my neighborhood!! Yeah!! So I'm probably jumping ship. The techie part of me wants to keep up the fight for a better solution, but my wife is way tired of it. So I'll take on the additional cost of DSL and use the USB720 when we travel. Guess I'll now have to by another friggin router to share the DSL connection as well. I swear there has to be a landfill somewhere just full of these things! |

I have the same problem, both with the USB720 and the Kyrocera KPC650. Both modems work great in my numerous laptops, but the KR1 constantly drops connection and won't reconnect unless it's power cycled.
It is extremely disappointing that 3Gstore still sells this item with this issue without warning you about it. |

Some months ago I bought a KR1 to use with my KPC650 on Alltel. Seemed to work fine for the first couple of weeks. Then it began locking up or losing connection several times per day. Usually required a power cycle to bring it back.
I have now completely solved the problem by buying a CTR350 and a UM150.
Anyone want to buy a slightly used KR1? Cheap? |
