Just a thought, this router has been on the market for a while, the EVDO card is just an add on. Could hackers or malware be causing part of the problem?

The Sprint Network is a small target compared to the entire universe of the big web and it would be easier to locate this router on it than on the www.

Anyway, all of the speculation by those who lack expertise to know for sure, me included, reminds me of a time when one of my database scripts did not work correctly. Three of the office workers began speculating as to what the problem was and how to fix it. They were having a good time and I know how much fun that is so I didn't way anything, just opened the script editor and changed a -1 to a +1 in a formula and fixed it. Of course, I learned in time that the things most likely to break where the things I just modified or added.

HeavlyArmdPokey,

I think your redo of the software is really awesome. I have been frustrated with trying to make my Sierra Aircard 580 work with the WRT54G3G-ST router, and think you may have provided the solution. But a problem:

"First, you have to upload the firmware. This can be done over the web interface, no problems. "

I am a newbie to this but have a working familiarity with Linux eg. I was able to make the 580 card work in Linux (card plugged directly into computer). But I do not have a clue on how to make the first step with your firmware. No problem is bringing up the router web interface, but how do I actually do the upload of the firmware?

I have the firmware downloaded, have all the info needed to configure the router per your directions, and am very eager to get with it, but stumped at that very first step.

for HeavlyArmdPokey and all others here ...

Please disregard my previous post, I was having an extended senior moment. Of course it's a very simple firmware upgrade upload, and went smooth as could be. The tutorial was clear and definitve, and the entire process went without a hitch. Before just a doorstop, now a fully working router+Sierra 580 aircard. And the speed seems very comparable to that with the card directly in the computer.

HeavlyArmdPokey, you da' man!

Everytime I try from the Wikiupload site, I only get a file that is 1k in size...

Thanks!

Has the source been posted yet? So we can start combing through it.. I have the source from linksys, and it won't build of course. It gets to a certain point and gives me 9 kinds of hell. So, just curious if you plan to post your source?

I installed the new firmware yesterday and I'm loving it. It is so much more robust than the stuff from Sprint/Linksys. Many thanks to the developer(s) who came up with this.

Still wish I could figure out why my connection goes out in the weeds intermitently. From what I've been reading in the forums though, I'm not the only one with this router that is having the same problem.

I agree that the open WRT firmware for this router is great! I think it's way better than the stock firmware. It does improve the upload issue for me. Also, operation is more seemless as I have not experienced a disconnection or any other issues so far.

Many thanks to all the contributors.

My Reply to a PM:
I'm somewhat new to all of this and not always sure about what sites to get files from. I looked at openwrt, x-wrt, dd-wrt ... dd-wrt I run on my wrt54g v6.

For the wrt54g3g router I used the one from HeavilyArmedPokey (Special thanks!) . I got it from the very first post, so go to the first post and the instructions are in the second post. The instructions are clear. As for 0.2, maybe he is not finished yet?

Maybe HeavilyArmedPokey can tell us if his version will find it's way to x-wrt or openwrt?

Maybe someone more experienced can explain the difference between the versions of all of these?

Finally, I have not tried the new linksys version. I don't think I will.

I have the new firmware and with the old one the little blue light would stay on the you could not connect to the internet after a while, unless you restart the router. I noticed I have the same problem with the new firmware (openWRT). Is there a fix for this, or can it be my card PX-500.

I have -54 signal with 3 watt inline amp
1.0 downloads on non-peak time 500-600 durring peak times
500k uploads just about all the time.

well its been a while.. I noticed how the trx linksys firmware got corrupt somehow so ill work on uploading a new one.

the reason why I never released the fixed linksys firmware or the openwrt firmware is because my build environment is all messed up. ever since I upgraded to ubuntu feisty I haven't been able to compile firmware (i get strange error messages in make). I might start the ball rolling again.. when i have the time to figure this all out.

well anyway another upload of the TRX linksys firmware is underway

ok here it is uploaded again: http://www.bigupload.com/d=F4530B6A

this is the Linksys 2.00.9 firmware in TRX

Make sure that you tick the "Erase JFFS2 partition" box. Also it wouldn't hurt to tick the boot wait box.
