"Replace the x's in 'xxxxxxxxxxxxx@sprintpcs.com' ...which is your 10-digit evdo phone number...
<b>In the next line, replace 'xxxx' (Highlighted in red) with your 4-digit evdo password... </b>"
Hi and thanks for the firmware updated. Before I install it I need to know, where would I be able to find out what my evdo password for my card without having to call into the Sprint CC?
Thanks! |

|
|
I ended up calling Sprint CC to get my evdo username and password, and I wanted to let you guys know that mine didnt follow the same format listed in the how to.
My username was my first intial plus my last name and a few random numbers for example: 'jdoe123@sprintpcs.com', and my password was a 6 digit completely ramdom string of letters for such as 'pkrkbl'. Only posting this cause I was a bit confused about that so wanted to clear it up for others who may have this same question/problem. Also wanted to mention the upgrade went very smoothly and was super happy I didnt have to redo any of my specific lan settings like the lan ip addressing and WPA encryption for the wifi.
Thanks again |

[quote="HeavlyArmdPokey"]I have been running OpenWRT for the last week or so, and it's great! I'm getting 400k+ uploads, which is a sight for someone used to seeing 100k-250k...
OpenWRT does more than just fix stupid technical problems, however. It adds a plethora of options not available in the standard firmware, such as WDS.

Hoping to see some input from Michael or others on this upgrade as I work under the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it until it is broke" rule

I can assure you, it won't damage your router...of course, I followed everything to a "T".
Be sure to upload this through an ethernet cable, not wirelessly.
here are my results:
Now I have reason to invest in an amp and/or yagi antenna in the future; I know I can get upload speeds greater than this (600-700k). |

Well, this is actually some good news for me. I should of released a basic working openwrt firmware for everybody to try.. though I wanted to get most everything working first.
@HeavlyArmdPokey
how did you produce the firmware?
IF you compiled from source: what edits did you do to the usbserial.c file? What version of the webif is being used (the standard OpenWrt webif or Webif^2)?
I have full LED and buttons working with openwrt right now, and really what I've been working on (and whats been stumping me a bit) is the WAN failover. Also I included webif^2 (this is the improved web interface) in the firmware I have, and I made changes to the web pages specifically for 3g cards. Oh and I also made a keepalive script that checks the internet (pings) and reconnects the card if its not responding, for always on connections.
Well basically, i'm being a real perfectionist here.. it's good that somebody put up a basic openwrt firmware for use on this router, because i'm sure everybody was getting tired of waiting on me. I'm really close to putting up my image.
edit: Well, I just now noticed the maxDSize=8192 maxUSize=2048 arguments for loading usbserial, which means you must of compiled from source. Is there any reason you chose 8192 for the download buffer? I mean it seems a bit high.. In my firmware I was pretty much settled on using 4096 down and 2048 up.

and another thing.. for Sprint users your username or password shouldn't be needed at all. The card authenticates itself through its ESN number. I've had my router connecting through OpenWrt for some time with a blank user and no password even specified.
So in this case, in the etc/ppp/peers/evdo file (that you are instructed to edit at the begging of this thread), you can delete the xxxxxxxxxxxxx@sprintpcs.com leaving just 'user' on that line, and you should delete the next line (password) altogether.
I'm not sure if this holds true for verizon users also, but it would be nice if somebody could try it out for me. |

Thanks for that tip, I would have missed that one.
I try to follow to a T also but I find that in the 30 years I have been into desktops, computers have outraced my learning !!!

I must say though, that this firmware does have one major weakness; the QoS implementation is beyond terrible; it only allows for ports (as in Internet ports), where as the Linksys had by mac address, ethernet port, and regular ports.
Also, the firewall, strangely enough, has no initial configuration...
besides that, though, it's fairly good firmware. |

EDITED
Ok so I was able to get the firewall / forward stuff working. Seems it was working fine before but my dyndns.com doesn't want to update so thats what seems to be broken. If I use the IP address it works fine.
here is my current firewall config
#####
##
# My Custom firewall configuration.
#
# This rule opens up FTP to 10.13.37.10
forward:dport=20-21:10.13.37.10
#
# This rule opens up SSH to 10.13.37.10
forward:proto=tcp dport=22:10.13.37.10:22
#
# This rule opens up Icecast for 10.13.37.10
forward:proto=tcp dport=8000-8001:10.13.37.10
#
# This rule drops everything else (deny all)

hmm, after doing further testing, I'm still not sure if the upload speed is fixed 100% (though I'd say around 85%).
In my laptop (I positioned it just like the router) I can nearly always get 500k up; with the router, I usually get around 400k (once in a while 450k).
Not saying you did something wrong, just...maybe something to check into. |

I applied this firmware. My upload doubled (now at approx 250) but my download now averages 500. I used to run between 800 to 1200 down. I'm in Rev. A but my signal is around 88 to 90.
I tried using the "update firmware" command on the web interface but it says that the .bin format is incorrect. I have tried both the .04 and .09 firmware from the 3G Store. Any suggestions?
Thanks. |

@srievley
I uploaded the original Linksys firmware in TRX format (which will work with the update page). Its the 2.00.9 firmware with the header removed. You can download it here:
Note: You have to check the "Erase JFFS2 partition" box before reloading the Linksys firmware. You can/should also check the "Turn boot_wait ON" box.

Is there any way to create a usable signal strength indicator page in OpenWRT? "Poor", "Good", "Excellent" in the stock firmware is next to useless for positioning an antenna...
Just a suggestion.
