I wonder if it is using the new improved EVDO chipset, called Qualcomm chipset MSM6500.

The more the merrier, competition is always good. Wouldn't you love to see a price war between Verizon and Sprint?
Got a link for the new chipset Michael? Is that the one that's supposed to handle Rev A? The current cards are rated to 2.4mbs and Rev A at 3mbs so somethings gotta give. |

Ain't google grand? It looks like that chipset was developed in 2002 primarily for phones, it's still rated at 2.4mb but the GPS capability is interesting. I use DeLorm Earthmate GPS on my laptop and it's great but how cool would it be to have it built in to your wireless card?

It will be through a specific channel, which she didn't disclose. _________________ Scott Wilson

4 months after Scott's first post on the Audiovox PC5740 card, they should be available next week. We obtained one for testing, and we have lots more information and pictures over at:
Audiovox PC5740 Information Page
Thanks to Scott Wilson, for giving 4 months notice and originally reporting this card back on March 15, 2005 _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

ALL EVDO cards up until the Audiovox PC 5740 have had an external antenna port. Which, if needed, allowed you to hook up external antennas (booster, magnetic mount, yagi, etc.) and hook up external signal amplifiers. Not everyone needs these, but for those that are 'signal challenged' or just want things faster, it is an option. Seems like this card, doesn't have this option.
I understand this card *may* be the lowest price of the bunch, BUT does anyone else think this is a bad design decision? _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Has anyone seen the physical specs for this card? It looks to be the largest in size of any of them, which is not too convenient for packing around.
I want to make sure that the case I develop for the bigger cards will fit this one too.

| Agreed. Bad idea not to have an antenna port. You never know when you may have the need - and I can't imagine that it adds much to the price of the card. |

Michael.
No need to check that out, as I'm redesigning the cases for the bigger cards, so the ones you have will not be used. Instead, I will have a narrower one that fits the cards more precisely. I needed the new dimensions so I can be sure the new design is flexible enough to handle all the longer cards. Those big cases you have will be retired when I sell the last few that I have.
Thanks for asking! Bruce |

Michael,
You sure on the depth? That's less than the 0.51 inch depth of the V620, but the picture clearly shows it to be deeper.
Do you have one of these in hand yet? Maybe you can try to get a measurement on it.
Thanks, Bruce |
