Before EVDO came to my home, I was able to do the MCM Debug mode and "see" EVDO, but never connect. Within a week, I was able to connect to EVDO (after the new towers were fully activated).

It still sounds like evdo is still configuring in your area. You are seeing the towers but they aren't active yet. I had the same thing for a month on and off before evdo went active in Los Angeles area a year ago.

It's now Friday, Sept.23, and still no EVDO connnection either in Riverdale (The Bronx) or Patchogue...still getting a strong signal when locked in EVDO, but the modem times out after 60 secs and is unable to connect.

Is anyone else on this board near either of these areas and able to confirm for me?

I tried the new update. It takes over 30 seconds for many pages to load. Venturi, which is probably causing this, gives no option to be turned off in this new software that I can find. I tried to re-install the old software but it does not recognize the card. I am so frustrated with Verizon. Mad

You should be able to uninstall venturi through the add/remove programs control panel or from the start/programs menu (forget which one).

If neither are available, there's an uninstaller linked from this b-board.

Tried that already. No go since there is a firmware upgrade that comes with the software, which I installed.

One good thing however, with the old PC5220 firmware my 17" Powerbook used to disconnect a lot. So far its rock steady and although the intrface on OS 10.3 looks broke, by connecting anyway, the 17" seems to be flying thru the net as fast or faster than the PC laptop. Wow. I need to research this a bit further perhaps tomorrow... way past my bed time.

I read on another thread that Venturi can be removed thru Control Panel Add/Remove Programs. I did that and things appear to be fine now. Wink

Verizon is sending me out a new card. My major problem with the firmware upgrade is the dormancy problem. My connection goes dormant in 5-10 seconds. According to tech support, it should not go dormant for minutes when in 1xRTT.

I was so frustrated last night, that I wanted to cancel my service and pay the fee. But, as usual, the great tech support comes to the rescue.

So I'm getting my third 5220 card in a year and a half. I received my second card because the first card would hang on to 2G towers.

Why read it on another thread when I'd already posted it on this thread two messages up? Smile Smile Smile

Sorry, just caught up in the heat of the moment; didn't realize you said Venturi. Wink

Thanks.
