Thanks, I'll test it when I get my hands on one.
I did some searching on the 7500 chipset and found this...
http://www.cdmatech.com/download_library/pdf/msm7500_chipset.pdf
Does high end 3D rendering (ATI graphics) with DirectDraw and Direct3D, USB hosting, decodes MPEG4/MP3/WMA at the hardware layer and lots of other goodies. Hopefully WM6 automatically supports all this.
USB hosting (called USB on-the-go) would be cool, which allows the phone to use USB devices like a PC, not just being a USB client to a PC. IE, attach a USB hard drive to the phone. Of course there would need to be drivers for the device in WM6.
Let's hope they improved the sensitivity of the radio as well or some form of voice QoS improvement. |

The new Qualcomm chipset looks pretty comprehensive;
it will be nice to see it in action.
Windows Mobile 6 does support USB-OTG and WinCE 6
supplies some sample OTG drivers. I don't see any
USB connector on the phone. Perhaps the standard
USB sync connector is dual purpose, but I am doubtful.
The challenge (per my limited understanding) for OTG
is the power requirements. Even with the limited power
required by OTG (150 uA at 5 vdc for a peripheral
and 8mA for a OTG Host), a constant trickle of power
drain will noticably affect the battery life. I've not seen
enough shipping devices that support USB-OTG in order
for the trade-off to be worth it to HTC. Of course, mere
speculation on my part.
I would like to see someone come out with an SDIO card
that supports USB 1.1 or 2.0 Host capability. |

I just type in any letters or numbers on the phone keypad and the dialer pad shows all the possible combinations. I think the 6700 and 6800 are exactly alike that way. - sheureka |

The Mogul by HTC (PPC-6800) Just became available for us to order.
I ordered one for me
Looks like they had 3800+ available in stock. I am sure they will go fast.
After I get one in, I will update the other threads on battery life, mac tethering, Bluetooth 2.0 speeds, etc.
Also, if you need to purchase one "out of contract", you can only go through Sprint. We can sell them with service. We have been the EVDO Mobile Broadband Card Experts for the last 2 years and now we are getting into the PDAs, give us some time to get up to speed.
Over the coming weeks, we will be comparing the many PDA devices. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

| Michael, do you have a laptop with Bluetooth 2.0? Would love to hear results of tethering performance over BT2.0. |

Unfortunatly UTC has failed to address this issue on the 6800 as there is no alpha keyboard available and they refuse to pay the patent that uses the alphanumeric touchscreen pad. Their new smartphone does let you do it but the 6800 is limited to numbers. I once saw a win 5 application that would capture the numeric numbers and tried to predictivly convert them to alpha and then access them in the normal contacts page. Unfortunatly it never came to market. :(

I just got my 6800 yesterday. I bought it at a sprint store from a sales girl who's knowledge level was somewhat bovine in nature.
I bought the ultimate data pack so I'd have all the sprint TV channels, which I was really interested in.
Got it home and at first tried to go through it without reading the manual just to see how intuitive it might be. Its my first PDA, so I did have a bit of learning curve.
Word from the folks at the sprint shop is that the Rev A upgrade is about 6 weeks away for what that is worth.
I quickly had some memory issues from opening too many programs. Oddly, you can start a program, but hitting the close box doesn't seem to end the program, just put it in the background, so you can quickly eat up memory.
The TV was a big disappointment: there isn't any. Sprints own phone doesn't support Sprint TV! What is more, MobiTV their recommended solution also doesn't seem to currently support the 6800. Their website says yes, but when you order the nearest choice is the 6700 for 5.0 pocket PC.
Switching between wifi and 3g is a snap, and one of the really nice features out of the box, although I haven't been able to actually do anything that taxes the current Rev O speeds.
The screen size is decent, although I had to increase the font size to maximum, and its still a bit like reading a newspaper through a keyhole. I understand that goes with the PDA territory though.
The future rev A ability, bluetooth 2.0 and integrated wifi really makes me want to keep this baby, but sprint's failure to support streaming media functions is just plain dumb and hamstrings the device.
I like it, but frankly I'm on the fence about keeping it past the 30 day mark.

Get a Slingbox and never worry about the TV thing again!! No monthly fees, (one time charge to purchase the unit - from around $150 to $250 depending on which model) awesome streaming experience and watch whatever you want without having to depend on the limited choice of channels the carriers offer. I've been Slingin' on the Treo 700wx, the ppc6700, and the Q and it works great even at times when you happen to wind up in a 1xrtt area.
Just my 2ยข worth.
Can't wait to get my hands on a 6800. Everything I've read says this is device I've been looking for.
Am I correct to assume that it has Bluetooth 2.0 and A2DP? I really like using the Moto HT820 with my Q. |

Slinging won't work for me. The point of me having mobile TV is that I don't have a stationary computer hooked up to the internet.
The unit does have bluetooth 2.0, but I can't comment on the other thing you mentioned....don't know what that is.
The units integrated wifi and bluetooth 2.0 for tethering is the only thing giving me pause, otherwise I'd pack it up right now.
The unit is nice, but my girlfriend has a slim LG phone that does 80 per cent of what my big PDA does, and it supports sprint TV too.
At this point I'm doing some soul searching on what I really need vs what the device does.

Well, that certainly does make Slinging difficult.

Basically A2DP is stereo Bluetooth.

Very strange decision NOT to include the Sprint TV in a device with the 6800's capabilities. No rhyme or reason for that IMO.
Good luck in your decision whether to keep it or not. |

I went with the LG unit. It had the biggest screen of the slim phones, and while it doesn't have some cutting edge features, it is supposed to be able to tether, albeit at a slow speed, so that at need I can get my computer online if I've no other way of doing it.
I like having options.
I suspect that MobiTV will probably provide support at some point, and I beleive that HandiTV is their product too. Its cheaper, and has fewer channels and poor feedback as far as I can tell.
I have some regrets over the 6800, and I suspect that if/when the TV issue is resolved and Rev A is out I'll have a few more pangs, but it is also possible that the 6800 may end up being best described as, "almost".

It looks like Verizon Wireless will have the 6800 in August.
