| Thanks again, Karlyn. It was taking forever for the WRT54G3G-ST to recognize the Alltel PC5750. I moved the router 10' away from the three puters, monitors, and the tangle of wires and placed it in a bookshelf snuggled in with some books. It seems to like its new home because it finds the card immediatly. Keep us posted on the Openwrt firmware, scoob28. |

Thanks for the update, scoob! I'm still baffled as to why you couldn't get it to work with the 2.00.9 firmware. Once work slows down a little I'm looking forward to trying the OpenWRT firmware. Do you have VPN working with it? |

You're welcome, Big Twin! Just a little interference there, huh?! You'd posted pretty decent downloads using a tethered E815 phone -- are you seeing even better downloads with the aircard? |

Karlyn, The tethered phone is a great way to go and is a lot of bang for the buck. The data package can be turned on or off as needed or can can be used without cost on a weekend/night free package. Calls can still be received while tethered and reconnects easily. I had mine plugged into a Wilson trucker antenna hanging out the window and wired tethered so cords became a problem. I noticed slightly better results with the PC7550 (same antenna) and have noticed no difference with adding the WRT54G3G-ST. When I throw three computers at it, I noticed diminished speeds. I really have not noticed much difference with any of the hookups although the speeds have been varying. EVDO (Rev 0) is new to this area so that probably accounts for some the speed differences, as well as the weather conditions. |

| The biggest thing I was concerned with was being able to VPN out to my work. That's works great with the Openwrt firmware. The local wireless also works great. I would recommend OpenWRT to anyone. |

It connected great through my PC5750 but I encountered the problem with the local wifi resetting my PC5750. Still no big deal as I was willing to connect another access point to the KR1. What was the deal breaker was the fact that I was unable to VPN through the KR1 so I returned it and bought a WRT54G3G-ST.
I cannot get my PC5750 to connect in the WRT54G3G-ST. With firmware 2.00.9 it tries to connect and finally fails saying "unable to contact the mobile broadband server". I get the same results with the Linksys beta firmware.
I'm hoping someone can help me! Thanks! |
scoob28, I have the same setup as you (PC5750 - Alltel). Can you tell me if you have it working yet, and what you did to get it working?
Thanks |

I posted over on that thread and alphastar told me to edit the /etc/ppp/chap-secrets file to look like below and it connected perfectly.

Above is my post from earlier in this thread. Check out the thread, OpenWRT Firmware for WRT54G3G- New Aug. 25th, which is a sticky thread at the top of this forum. I downloaded r75 of the OpenWRT firmware from assembla.com/spaces/files/openwrt-3g. I then had to edit the chap-secrets file to look like the entry above.
I could not get it to work with the linksys 2.00.9 firmware. |

Here are my settings from the network page. See if they match.
WAN Configuration
Connection Type - None
WWAN Configuration
Connection Type - 3G Data Card
WWAN Connection Settings
Connection Mode - Connect manually
Utilize Keepalive - Yes
WWAN Network Settings
Network - US Alltel
Network Type - CDMA Based
Username - blank
Password - blank
Dialup Number - #777

Netmask - 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway- 192.168.1.1
Remember to first save changes then apply changes
If matching mine doesn't work you should post your connection log found under status, mobile network to the OpenWRT Firmware for WRT54G3G- New Aug. 25th thread. There are people in that thread that know OpenWRT inside and out.
Good Luck. |

| I didn't think of this earlier but have you activated the card in a laptop before using it in the router? It has to be activated first using the alltel software. If you've already activated it, post what you just posted to this thread, http://www.evdoforums.com/thread6621.html. The people in that thread are more knowledgeable with the config files than I am. |

Does the Linksys wrt54g3g-st work with the Verizon PC5750? I realize it's basically the same as the Alltell PC5750 but just want to make sure.
Thanks |
