Linksys 3G router with Alltel PC 5750 (aka Pantech PX-500)?

I see that at least one person has had success using their Verizon PC5750 with the Linksys router -- has anyone here had success using an Alltel PC5750 with this router?

I am using the WRT543G-ST wireless router with the Alltel PC5750. It works and I encourage you not to fear that it will not. However, I do have to turn it on/off several times to get it to connect most of the time. I wish I could understand why because it is frustrating. Worse is the fact that the blue connect light will flash on the router as if you are successfully connected and the green light on the PC5750 will also flash as if you are fully connected as well. I will tell you that I really like the PC5750 and Alltel EVDO so I deal with this minor issue.

Thanks, Tim! I'll order the router today. Didn't want to order if it was absolutely not going to work. I'm using the Alltel PC5750 on an old laptop right now and am very happy with it -- saved me from going the satellite route!

My Alltel PC5750 is working well with the Linksys 3G router. (I activated the PC5750 in an old laptop with pcmcia slot.)

I did have a tough time getting the card seated properly in the router (and I'm apparently not alone), but once I did, and the blue data card led went solid, the rest was easy.

I didn't run the installation cd -- I just plugged the ethernet cable into the desktop, opened firefox, and I was on. Same experience with the laptop wireless connection. Both connections seem to be about as fast as having the card in the laptop.

All I have left to do now is set up my network protection. Very Happy

hi there folks... am curious if you've had a chance to test speeds you get with card in laptop, versus speeds you get with card in router?

In speaking to one of our customers on Friday, we discovered that an
Alltel customer using a PC5750 (Alltel Branded) connection card was
attempting to be used in one of our Linksys WRT54G3G-ST routers. As
we all know here at EVDOforums.com this combination could cause
conflicts in that we are not Alltel dealers nor can we truly support
an Alltel card.

Since, we have sold many of LinkSys WRT54G3G-ST routers, we have a
lot of experience and we were able to get the customer up and running.

It sure is a good thing that we update all our routers with the
latest firmware prior to shipping to our customer. This combination
is something that seems to work unless stated otherwise by other
customers reports. Alltel customers... Please post your own results
in this thread, I know that potential customers of the Linksys router
would sure appreciate it;-)

Okay! Using TCP optimizer analysis and the TCP optimizer program from speedguide.net I upped the RWIN from 17,520 to 256,960 on the new laptop. Results via the router are much closer to the the results with the card in my old laptop.

Hello everyone. I am new to posting but have been seriously lurking for many months. I recently purchased the Linksys router from the 3G store for my Verizon PC5750 (just upgraded from V620). I only have dialup where I live. I have been using an EVDO card for almost a year and wanted to try and set up a network in our home. We were upgraded recently to Rev A here in St. Louis. I was hesitant to try the whole router thing. It was very easy and I would recommend it to anyone considering it. I have Windows XP SP2 on two desktops and a laptop. The best reception for the EVDO card was on the 2nd floor and my main computer is in the basement. I had to purchase a Linksys range extender, but that did the trick. I am getting about 1057 down and 268 up. I purchased a booster antenna previously from the 3G store and talked to them before I purchased the router. I have always received prompt and professional responses to my questions. I would like to mention also that I have been very happy with my Verizon service and support. I have had my PC5750 through Alltel for about 2 weeks and it works great with my laptop. I really need to have a router so I bought the Kyocera Kr1. It connected great through my PC5750 but I encountered the problem with the local wifi resetting my PC5750. Still no big deal as I was willing to connect another access point to the KR1. What was the deal breaker was the fact that I was unable to VPN through the KR1 so I returned it and bought a WRT54G3G-ST.

I cannot get my PC5750 to connect in the WRT54G3G-ST. With firmware 2.00.9 it tries to connect and finally fails saying "unable to contact the mobile broadband server". I get the same results with the Linksys beta firmware.

With the OpenWrt firmware my card connects and I get an IP but I cannot receive anything. When I check status the most I receive is 64 Bytes. I'm also unable to ping, tracert, etc. I transmit out but never receive anything.

I'm hoping someone can help me! Thanks!

What is your signal strength when your card is in your laptop? I have found that a weak signal is harder to pick up when the card is in the router than it is when the card is in the laptop. If that's the case, an external antenna might be the solution.

Also, did you try moving the router around to different locations in your home? In one of my work locations I need to place the router in a spot that makes no intuitive sense to get the best signal and a connection.

I've been using the Alltel PC5750/Linksys combination since March without much problem. Still using the 2.00.9 firmware -- haven't tried the beta or the Open-WRT firmware.

Thanks Karlyn. I have a tower less than a mile from my house. My signal strength will in the laptop is 100% and it is excellent while in the router. This doesn't appear to be a signal strength issue. Thanks again for your reply.

Karlyn, Presently I'm using a tethered E815 with good results (1300 kbps down). I have a none activated Alltel PC5750 which I will activate when I get a working EVDO router. The KR1 has wifi problems using the PC5750 and I really don't want to throw another wifi router into the mix. The KR1 I recently picked up is a non flashable brick so I'm going to the try the Linksys based on your somments. Thanks. Very Happy

I have the PC5750 (Alltel) w/ the linksys router. It seems any problems experienced with this setup is solely the fault of Alltel as they timeout the connection are specific time intervals to control network "congestion". In my area, the timeout is set for 12 hrs of connectivity; others may not have a time out and especially highly congested areas may have a shorter time out in place. The thing that is really a pain about this is that somewhere in the chain of events, the timeout is not being handled properly. When the connection times out, the connection should be terminated and the card should reset to initiate a new connection but this is not the case which is why a router reboot is required. I normally do a soft reboot via the interface but have seriously given consideration to putting the router on a plug in timer and causing the power to be cut ever 12 hrs. It's really a pain in the @$$ but it beats Wildblue hands down!

I just wanted to update this thread and let everyone know I was able to connect with my WRT54G3G-ST and Alltel PC5750. I am using the Openwrt firmware by evdo-wizard. I posted over on that thread and alphastar told me to edit the /etc/ppp/chap-secrets file to look like below and it connected perfectly.
