Ok boys, we don't need everyone's schedule here posted. It doesn't really matter. But just in case it does...I'm in CT now and I'll be in New York, South Jersey, Chicago, Michigan, Vegas, Seattle, Vancouver, Portland, San Fransisco, Sacramento, Reno, Lake Tahoe and Salt Lake City in the next 2 months.
Oh, and I'm not bringing my laptop with me so I won't be able to report how the connection was _________________ -Eli |

NDIS is an option that you can select in the Sprint Mobile Broadband Settings that will install a driver which essentially makes your card into a type of connection where whenever it's plugged in, it's on. That means that you don't need to open SCM and click GO. You simply instert the card and it connects about 30 seconds later. And when you resume from hibernate or standby it also reconnects. _________________ -Eli |

Thank you.
And please accept my apologies if I sounded demanding. That was not my intention. |

I think i have had NDIS enabled all along. In the Sprint Communications in have “Enable Nic for Data connections” ENABLED. Is this correct ?
Thanks. |

Hey guys, I'm a new member , but I have been using this site for a while, a lot of knowledgable people on the subject.. and no stupid attitudes.
I work for Sprint, as a Site tech in the field and I'm curious if the issue I have (it's been quiet this week shhh) is that I'll be working, scm open w/ vpn on top of it, and my connection goes into a state like back in the days of DSL when if you were inactive for a certain amount of time, the server places you into a standby mode, where it still shows you are connected but, there's nothing TX or RX. Usually when this happens within a minute my VPN conn. will drop, then everything is fine. But this happens just the same while Just on the aircard using scm. My card I'm using is a S720... I'm up to date as far as I know on firmware and Conn. mgr software.
The only thing I can say is that in my case, I noticed if I do "EndTask" on the OSCM3.exe process, I do stay connected and don't drop at all.
Now, is this a separate issue from this one, anyone experienced what I'm describing?
Let's work this out... there's enough brains here to figah dis out.
Great board, keep it up..

| Quote: | I hear ya Bubble. I just can't understand why when SCM isn't even used, like in the case of NDIS or using DUN, that it would still disconnect. I will try your theory tonight, but of course as usually happens, now it's pinging perfectly so I can't really test it.
Edit: I tried it and did not get good results. The pinging still stops occasionally and I lose internet connectivity for a few seconds just like before. Maybe I'm using Vista and that's why. What are you using Bubble? |
Kingbear, I never checked out my connection with continuous pinging. To me, that was never really of interest. I only want a good reliable connection that can download an occasional large file or watch streaming video without disconnecting. My U720 was not doing that until I started killing the OSCM3. Since I "ended Task" on it, I have had zero problems and have been connected continuously for probably 4-5 days. You guys know much more about these things than I do, but I just wanted to let everyone know what worked for me. Maybe it will help some other users who are having the same problem.
I am using a desktop Dell running XP and Internet Explorer at my home. I get a good signal of between 75-84 depending on the day.
Thanks, Bubble |

d_fault,
please read the posts on this thread. we are having frequent disconnects since we've had the service. many of us are fairly mobile (in my case i am a magazine photojournalist) and travel alot to different EVDO areas and are having the same problems everywhere. i have NDIS enabled (i think). please read my previous posts rather than bore everyone with repeating everything.

Possible solution - force 1xRTT-only mode.
Look at this thread:
http://www.evdoforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=33327#33327
Intermittent problems with the EVDO signal might be causing this bahavior, and forcing 1xRTT will give you a stable (if slower-than-EVDO) connection. |

I'll be honest I would rather have a intermittently disconnected EVDO session than run only on 1x. _________________ -Eli |

Kinda depends on how bad it is. Occasional disconnects, I'd agree with you. In my case, though, it wouldn't work for more than a few minutes at a time, often requiring a reboot to restore connectivity. In that case, especially for, say, email or light surfing, I'd rather have a slower connection than have to reboot after every email or web page. |

Sameoh. Sameoh.
I was in Indy Jun 20-24. Not in order, but I tried EVDO at 73rd/College, Broad Ripple, Fazolis at 62nd/Keytsone, Downtown/Meridian, IUPUI Hospital, IHOP on Meridian N. of Downtown, IUPUI Track and Field stadium, Dennys on I70 near IND), and EVDO disconnected as frequently as everywhere else I've experienced the same.
I've been back in San Jose since Sun evening, and the same disconnects.
The 'frequent disconnect' problem appears to be nationwide from what people say here on this thread and from the limited places I've been to recently. |

I don't have anything of worth to add, but I feel for you guys. After being stuck with 26.4k dial-up for about nine years, I was all too familiar with intermittent disconnects when I had poor ISPs, and that was only once every couple of hours on average.
After having ISDN for two years, where I was literally able to stay connected for 12 hours at a time every single day of the year (except for the 12 hour network disconnect), i'm praying I don't run into this problem when I give wireless a test drive. I think it'd be unbearable after i've been spoiled with ISDN reliability. |
