| I'm having the same problem here (north san diego county) with a 720 card and a KR1 router. I'll be keeping an eye on this forum, and hope for a solution. |

OK guys, i dont believe its sprints fault.
I have a novatel U720 and win xp pro sp2 and everything is up to date. for the past couple of months, ive had this issue where i would attempt to use update windows feature in IE and when installing IE7, my computer would crash and start acting all funny. to make a long story short, my computer had a real bad virus\trojan before i updated everything and my internet connection was fine. I never got ANY random disconnects and my USB u720 was ALWAYS blinking, lol. That was this morning.
So now that I got rid of the virus and random crashes, i update the hell outa my PC. PC runs like new.
Almost makes me wish i never did! I remember when this post was created and always thought how lucky i was not to have this problem. i jixned it! I dunno whats going on but I was playing ragnarok online (MMORPG) and was soloing this hardcore boss (which was a random encounter) and was fighting him for atleast 10-12 min. Then I get his HP (health) down to 2% and i was getting ready to jump outta my chair in joy when i get disconnected from the server. I looked over at my usb modem and the light wasnt blinking. then i looked at the usb connection itself to see maybe i lodged it out of its connection and turned out to be ok. I quickly shut the game off and checked network connection and noticed it still said it was connected. so i open up AIM real quick and failed to connect. then i immediatly thought of this thread and was like oooooOh sh*t. then outta nowhere it starts blinking again and my connection comes back?!
So you can add me to the list. right now as im typing this my usb modem green light isnt blinking, i hope i didnt create this long ass post for nothing!

Another way to keep your connection active is via IM programs. I had the same disconnect issues for a while, so I went back to leaving AIM on all the time, regardless of whether I was using it. No more drops. Worked with a CDU-550 plugged directly into my iBook, works with a U720 plugged into my KR1.
EXCEPT,
when I dl torrents the connection hangs and drops periodically. But this happened with Verizon, too, back before their unmentioned to me bandwidth limit got me booted. I'm no techie so I won't pretend to know what's going on, but it seems certain programs, usually bandwidth intense ones, just plain don't work well with evdo. It's unfortunate, but it's the nature of the beast.
And yeah, sprint's customer service sucks. But otherwise they've been a dream compared to verizon. No cap on bandwidth, and a stronger, steadier connection, at least here in brooklyn. |

I take it this is your 1st week on the internet?
So far sprint's service has been nothing short of amazing, considering land line connections are a pipe dream at my location. |
Hahahaaaaa, too funny. 4 pages of constant complaints, but as you say "sprint's service has been nothing short of amazing'. Sprint just LOVES people like you. All the complaints just don't seem to agree with your idea of "amazing service". |

I use a MacBook Pro and I get trouble free service from my U720. Most of the people having problems aren't using a MacBook Pro so perhaps it is not Sprint that is the trouble maker?
I'm not in agreement with the "I'm having problems so it has to be Sprint's fault" concept.
How many virus fighting programs does one have installed. How often do they download updates on their own. What about firewalls and such. How many secret and not so secret little bugs does one have running about their RAM.
I think the previous poster describing a new install of the OS has a valid point.
The true test of Sprint would be a fresh install of the OS with no other software needed. No Norton, no other virus software. Now install the connection manager, etc. and give it a try.
What I'm hearing:
I've got VOIP installed, slingbox, various internet games, download speederuppers, and so on. I've tinkered with my internet settings and made changes in the...
Now nothing works and it's Sprints/Verizon's fault. |

|

Hope this may help others. my connection is -66dbm, but still was unstable. I kept noticing where i place the U720, hanging from my desk, worked rather good, but still not as good as it should be. Then I placed it near the window, better, but still not as it should be. Then I open the window and notice it was very good, but didn't understand why it would be much better, and the cold air made me close the window. Well i finnally placed it on the outside of the window, and closed the window the best I could, And it's running excellent.
My guess is the double glass window, having perhaps another gas between the windows, is somehow blocking some of the connection. So if you have the U720, in front of a window, it's likely disconnecting due to the window gas between the window glass. Try placing the U720 on the outside. Perhaps this would help other cards to.
Two things to consider if you place the U720 on the outside, be careful of thief, and water damage. Thinking I may wrap the u720 with some plastic wrap.
My connection is fantastic now, much more stable.
I hope this may help people. |

I have an antenna, from my old s620 card, I bought last year. I need the adapter so it can connect to the U720. Anyone know where to get the small dapator, the exact one I need.
By the way, the antenna isn't really the issue with me. I think its the gas between the window glass. I'm not far from the tower, it shows all the bars, in the house.
Thinking somehow the signals are being intermitly refracted when they reach the nitrogen gas in the window. Causing some signals te be lost, others to reach the usb card. My uneducated theory.
The wire on the antenna is thinner, I can likely place it outside and still close the window and lock the window. Being the wire for the antenna is thinner. Thats what I was going to do, but buying the adapter is holding me back. |

I'm "out in the sticks" so I'm thankful to have connectivity (spent years fighting with satellite )
Does anyone know: I'm using the S720 in my router. I "locked" it to EVDO using connection manager in the laptop. Is this setting remembered in the S720 itself (will it stick when put in the router)?

I gave up my 5740 for a rev A Pantech a few months back without any problems being observed all over the northeast. I rolled into Vero Beach, Fl one week ago and was road side looking for a hotel when the timeouts began. The problem is occurring intermittently since then and seems to be getting worse over the past couple of days, however a reboot is not needed to reconnect. This is a real pain in the @$$!
The problem started with the card in the laptop Lenovo X-60 tablet running win XP tablet edition 2005 ver. 2002 sp 2 and also occurs with the card inserted in my dlink dir-450 (router fw v1.02) regardless of using IE 7.0.5730.11 or Firefox 2.0.0.3. While trying to view pg 2 of the posts, I disconnected arrrgh! so I checked CM for an update and one is available (not there yesterday) Sprint CM just downloaded PX-500 fw D0500SPM05_5.172 w CM 3.02.036 maybe this will help.
I have not disconnected for an hour! and my signal bouncing between -96 and -112 dBm what a crappy signal! The router allows me to avoid this problem when i am inside a building. Back to the router it goes! |

I just dropped H***** Net after many years of service (or lack thereof,) and I can't get cable or DSL. I reside in a 1X state but the service works better than dial-up, and more reliable than my former big expensive dish system.
Oh, did I mention that I can transfer from Sprint system from my home to the RV while traveling? This Sprint card is a lot smaller then the dish madness I carried in the belly of the RV. It also works while traveling! All I can ask for now is faster service. At least when I am on the road I have service, and sometimes FAST service.
Yeah, cost is an issue but so is second phone line, and so forth. Enough about this already.
Here is a little history. My 595U quit two weeks into the thirty day trial period, but I was provided an option to exchange. I got the PX-500 now. I run it through the KR-1 router with 1010 firmware update. Service now is disconnecting frequently; I did not have this problem with the 595U. But, I am sure a fix is on it's way.
I still insist the service is better than what I had. At least I have not noticed cloud cover effecting Sprint service YET, or FAP cutting my bandwidth down to slower than dial-up speed.
Of course, this is my first thirty days of service, and I will report back later.
Just had to put in my two cents regarding the first post. |

I made an earlier reference to "first post" and I should have said an earlier post. Sorry. |

I'm presently in an area where Sprint has no EVDO yet. I'm seeing somebody's EVDO signal, but unable to roam on it, so all I get is 1xRTT, either "native" sprint or roaming.
My problem is that it seems to lose connectivity (I'll get not found errors in the browser, or pages that will try to load for a while until they time out) but connection manager think it is still connected (green icon, says "connected"). I can restore service by disconnecting and reconnecting, usually, although often when trying to reconnect I get a 678 error. Also, I notice sometimes the signal strength alternating between several bars (80-something) and zero bars (100+).
This is on a S620 that works fine on EVDO where it is available, and reliably, if not fast, on 1xRTT in the past (even in this exact spot).
Spent an hour on the phone yesterday... most of it waiting on hold through several transfers to get to a 2nd-teir support person. While she was friendly and tried to be as helpful as possible, the attempted solutions (reinstall software and re-provision my card) didn't solve the problem.
I think it's a tower or network issue, because sometimes I can get several hours of use out of it, but other times I'm lucky to get five minutes without losing connectivity (without actually being "dropped" - that's the wierd part). |
