Any update yet?

After following links to the store for this, I was pretty bummed it wasn't available.

If this isn't coming out soon, is there another USB modem that's good with OS X?

Go with a sure thing, rather than wait for the latest/greatest:

Agreed.

Actually, I think I'm leaning towards just saying screw it and grabbing a router and then using a card that's also compatible with a MacBook Pro so that I can take it on travel as well as use it on my local network.

Just FYI, we've started a "notification" thread, here:

CDU680 Notification List

and here is a new picture that compares the sizes of the AC595U, U720 and CDU680 (left to right):

Short answer? No.

Just as with any other device with the carriers, if you're under contract you can buy any device you like but you can NOT get discount pricing.

You'd have to buy the CDU 680 at full retail price. But then you could obviously sell your U720 on eBay or somewhere to offset the cost.

Or another way to look at it.

You won't have to pay a penalty, BUT you only get the big discounts when you sign up for new service with a 2 year contract. So, you would have to purchase the device at retail and then swap it onto your existing Sprint account.

Normally, the cost for replacing a broken/lost device OR upgrading is a shock to many people. The device is $0 - $100 when you first "buy" it (signing up for a new contract), BUT, if you need to purchase it to replace or upgrade, it can be $200 - $330. The carriers obviously, take a loss on the device when you sign up for a new contract and then they "make it up" over the contract.

PostPosted: Mon Sep 03, 2007 10:43 pm    Post subject: GPS and Internet? Reply with quote

I was wondering if anyone can confirm if this USB "Air card" or one like it, can be used as a GPS receiver with Windows XP, and connect to a cell phone network with a data plan at the same time?

I'm building a mobile PC around windows XP and would like to have internet / email, and GPS navigation. If this device can do both at the same time it would really cut down my work load / cost.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you Alex. I'm not in a rush, so I'll watch for the CDU680.

Can someone clarify exactly how much Mac OS X support this modem provides. It says the connection manager runs on OS X. Does this mean you can activate the modem on Mac OS X now? Can you do PRL updates with it on OS X?

Thanks...MP

Yes, it is Vista Compatible. We will double check on 64 bit.

Yes, it can be activated COMPLETELY on a Mac including PRL Updates, no need to activate in Windows or under BootCamp. First GPS/Location Based that fully works with Mac OS X. We will post a complete review with screen shots early this week.
