That did it!
Here is my setup:
vpnclient-darwin-4.9.01.0030-universal-k9.dmg (installed)
connect using Palm Treo 700p via bluetooth
To disable paralells networking:
1. Apple > System Preferences > Network
2. Double click "Parallels NAT"
3. Change "Configure IPv4: Using DHCP" to "Off"
4. Click the "Show:" pulldown to find "Paralells Host-Guest"
5. Change "Configure IPv4: Using DHCP" to "Off"
I tried combinations of turning one or the other off, and I got the same 422 errors. If I disabled both, no issues with Cisco VPN via EVDO.
Thanks for the tip, never would have thought to look there! |

Any idea why I would not have 'Parallels NAT' listed? I have Parallels installed, and use it all the time. I do have two ethernet Adaters listed (en2 and en3). Could one of these be the Parallels one, and it just isn't named correctly? (maybe en3, assuming this is the newest one?) I do use my wired ethernet occasionally, and assume this is en2 ?
I am obviously new to Mac networking, so I apologize if this should be obvious...
Thanks - Jeff |

I figured it out. I was also having a problem getting coherence mode to work with my Windows 2000 installation in Parallels...working with Parallels team, they pointed me to new version of Parallels:
http://download.parallels.com/GA/Parallels%20Desktop%203188%20Mac%20en.dmg
When you install this, not only does coherence mode work for Windows 2000, but more importantly, I can now make the changes to the NAT networking mentioned above, and I can now use the Cisco client...

| Cisco released version 4.9.01.0080 of the VPN client for the Mac. This update resolves the issues with connecting over VPN on the ex720. You no longer have to run the command to stop and start the VPN services. I know this updated client works with a couple other cards that have the same issue. |

I hate to revive an old thread, but I have what I think is a new problem.
I had the issue with the Cisco VPN and Parallels, disabling the two Parallels network cards fixed the issue. I have since installed VMWare Fusion and I'm back to getting a VPN connection and then immediately getting disconnected from the VPN
Any thoughts? |

I use 4.9.01.0800 as well, and have been having problems the last 2-3 weeks. I use Verizon, and question if it is something they have done on the backend, or some strange issue based on what cel-towers you are connected through. My VPN works sometimes, and then others, it doesn't. I can reboot and re-connect, and then sometimes it works...other times, it doesn't. (all when within EVDO networks, so it isn't an issue of being out of range of the right type of cel-towers).
Right now, it isn't working....I am sitting in Chicago O'Hare and have good signal strength...I just can't VPN. I have checked all the usual suspects (disable IPv6 for Parallels, etc.). Can't figure it out. I used to complain about how hard configuring and maintaining a Windows box was, but this single issue on my Mac is really frustrating...

| Use version 3.0 of Parallels it works great with my card. Remember you do not need to run it on the windows side you can make your VPN connection on the Mac side then start your VM and you will be able to login directly to your work network. |

First, a quick correction to my last post: I am using Sprint, not Verizon.
I do use Parallels 3, but I still need to disable IPv6 in order for my VPN to stay connected for more than 5 secs. that said, as I mentioned in my previous post, it is completely un-predictable. I am now in St. Louis, re-connected with my card, and my VPN works fine....and I haven't changed a thing.
That is why I think there is something going on at the network side that is making it work sometime, but not others. Maybe it is a Sprint thing, I am not sure (and they certainly don't seem to have any idea...I de-bugged all of this with all of your help...not theirs
Thanks - Jeff |

Using Cisco 4.9.01.0030 on Macbook running 10.4.9 and unable to get VPN with Verizon V740 card despite strong signal, good internet connection. No problem with VPN on other methods of internet access.
Is it necessary to get VPN on Windows in Parallels? Is there another solution?
For a while after updating Cisco had irregular but occasional VPN but now get Error 51 100% of the time.
Ideas? _________________ aahann |

To Get VPN to work, I have to do two things:
1.) disable IPv6 in the Networks Settings for both Parallels sessions
2.) disable Wi-Fi on my laptop
This allows you to connect over your card, and then connect using your VPN. But you can't (at least I haven't figured out how), connect to the Network in Parallels. Since I only using my card in airports and traveling, I can usually hold off launching Parallels to do those few 'IE' things when I am back in Wi-Fi range, and not using my card anymore. If you plan on using your wireless card all the time, and you have Parallels Apps you need to use at the same time, this might not be the best solution for you.
If anyone ever figures out how to get VPN to work with Parallels, using a wireless card, please post how you did it...
Thanks - Jeff |

Updating to Cisco VPN client 4.9.01.0080 seemed to allow VPN Access on Macbook 10.4.9 with V740 card-- after weeks of failure. Victory was short lived until the automatic update of the VZ Access Driver after which VPN would drop off after five seconds.
Reconfiguring VZ Access ("Setup Assistant" - delete account and recreate) to control only WWAN connections and NOT WiFi seems to have solved the problem again -- for now. _________________ aahann |

I have both Parallels and VMWare Fusion installled.
I tried the trick with disabling Parallels network ports, still got disconnected after two seconds.
Then I found another tip here, which disables VMWare Fusion:
Anti-Spam forced me to cripple the link www - luisdelarosa - com/2007/10/24/how-to-run-cisco-vpn-over-evdo-when-youve-got-vmware-fusion-installed/
Stop Fusion:
sudo /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/boot.sh --stop
After running this, my VPN connection finally works!
Start Fusion:
sudo /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/boot.sh --start
I will go check if VMWare Fusion 1.1 fixes this...
UPDATE: VMWare Fusion version 1.1 seems to fix the problem for good, the above workaround seems to be not necessary for 1.1. |
