From what I'm reading on the PDF you can actually activate without a Windows PC; you can do it in boot camp. Am I right? _________________ Sony T250 1.2 Ghz & 17" Powerbook 1.5 Ghz |

Nope. they are separate downloads. Click on downloads for the drivers image. |

Yes, you'll want to undue the hack before you proceed further.
Since you're a customer, look for an e-mail from our support team on the subject. |
Got it working. Very painless, thanks to your detailed instructions.

In Aventura Forida I recorded a max 1600 Kps Download speed outside of my doctors office. Usually the readings hovered around 900 to 1000 Kps though.
I notice two icons in Network connections though; one says 3G which is not connected while the other says Sprint PCS vsion Novatel Wireless. The 3G icon is not connected while the other one is. What's the 3G icon for? I am running EX720 using Bootcamp XP on a Macbook Pro. _________________ Sony T250 1.2 Ghz & 17" Powerbook 1.5 Ghz |

Also, Apple officially released a new WWAN driver pack today that includes support for the U720.
Is there an uninstaller for mac.intosh's driver pack? I want to clean out his drivers before installing the Apple WWAN update.

From my experience with the Sprint drivers and then the Apple drivers, VPN works with Sprint's but not Apple's.
I wish this were something simple like a file to remove but I think Apple changed it's mind about PPT and VPN and is now using only IPSEC. Hope I got those four letter words right... |

Yikes! I'm going to have to test that. I need PPTP for work.

I've been testing.
I removed Mac.Intoshes drivers per his instructions. I then manually edited /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist and removed the entry for the Novatel Wireless that was created as part of Mac.Intoshes installation instructions. (I do not recommend this step for people who are not familiar with XML.)
Then I rebooted.
I installed the Apple WWAN update and rebooted.
After reboot I plugged in my U720. It was automatically detected and configured, and added a new wireless strength indicator to my status bar.
I connected to Sprint.
I then connected to my work PPTP VPN. I am using DigiTunnel, not the OS X VPN client, in case that matters much. It's working.
So, I can say for certain that PPTP VPN works with the Sprint drivers if you use DigiTunnel.
I hope that helps.

Nice, 2 out of 4 readings from EX720 peaked at over 2200 Kbps download at one location a few miles from where I live. Wish I lived there...
Wonder if antenna and connections are available for the EX720. Wonder if the PCMCIA adapter is available? _________________ Sony T250 1.2 Ghz & 17" Powerbook 1.5 Ghz |

Antennas / Amps / Adapter for the EX720
That link also includes listing for ExpressCard to PCMCIA Adapter (backordered). |

I'm using OpenVPN with Sprint on EX720 without any problems. I get 1mbit/512k during some times of the day on 1xRTT even. I wish they would have a native cocoa application like the Windows client feature wise so that it could be activated under OSX. Not to mention you can't play with GPS, or edit the roaming locations under OSX. I'm using a MacBook Pro 17" in Riverside County, CA at the moment for what it's worth. The old IPsec built-in client in Windows and OSX are a terrible solution for VPN, as OpenVPN is more secure, but that's another topic. (Trade-off is a little technical ability to install tuntap and configure openvpn.conf with an editor and use Tunnelblick)
I am using WWAN support from Apple.
The PCMCIA adapter is the Novatel Merlin S620 by the way. Doesn't actually say Rev a., but based on the speed it says it supports, it'd have to be. You could use a PCMCIA ExpressCard adapter, but you'd probably lose some DB's.

The S620 is an adapter???
NOT
The S620 is an older/obsolete Sprint Rev-0 PC Card that isn't even listed as a currently available product anymore. Its chipset makes it impossible to take advantage of Rev-A speeds. |

Hello all....
I recently purchased the Merlin x720 and have a few questions. I downloaded two different drivers for OSX. The first is the WWAN (forgot what its called) update from Apple and the other is a Mac driver which added"EVDO Support" in my modem menu. When I connect with the EVDO Support modem I see that I am connected to 68.28.xxxxx at 1843200 bps. When I connect using the WWAN modem I connect at 230400 bps. Even though the two speeds are pretty different I don't notice much of a speed difference on speedtest.net (or the other speed check sites)What is going on? Anyone see the same thing? |
