The wireless number on my card was changed to combine my billing. This is what I did to get the card working again and may help someone in the feature:

The OSX WWAN was still showing the old number in the "About Verizon" pane. Tech support said install the software and activate. I hadn't installed the software before because the card "just worked". I installed it and activated, noticed how much it sucked and then uninstalled. I'm not sure if holding option and getting the hidden WWAN menu option to activate would have done it (I would have tried that first if it wasn't hidden Evil or Very Mad ). The card still wouldn't connect because of the old PPP credentials in the "Internet Connect" profile still had the old number. I couldn't delete it either hoping that a new one was created. What did work was connecting with nothing in the account and password fields; go figure.

The shine and new car smell is still on my MacBookPro, but I'm having a hard time finding the tweak sweet spot. I am connected to wirelessly over a WRT54G3G-ST and in general things seem to be going well, but my download speeds (on various speed testing pages) are lower by about 25% that any of the wireless Windows clients.

I have tried a couple of broadband tuners, but for the most part they seemed to make things worse. I used to be a mac guy back in the day, but went almost exclusively to the dark side for work about a decade ago... Is there a tool that seems to be the one to play with or is everyone running on defaults?

I am thinking of buying an older powerbook. I see that some of you are using kpc650 with powerbooks. However, I am on the Altel network. I have used my card in Linux and XP for a long time now on a vaio. I called Kyocera and got the cookie cutter reply: the dialers are different for verizon and alltel. Alltel doesn't make a dialer for their network. Of course this shouldn't matter too much since it works in Vista and Linux using regular DUN things as long as the drivers are in place.

So my question is, is anyone using their kpc650 on any of these supposedly unsupported networks in a powerbook?

Well it looks like Apple's latest WWAN drivers are for Intel only. That's what it looks like, but I could be wrong. You'd have to try to uses Sprint's drivers and make it work, I think.

The terminal is for people who haven't mastered drag and drop.

Several years ago I bought, through EVDO, a Kyocera KPC 650 for my mac Powerbook G4, OS 10.4.11. It has been mostly problem free. When I upgraded my cell phone with Verizon, a few weeks ago, they mentioned I was due for a aircard update also. Without thinking I said "sure" even though I was not having any problem with the 650. I don't know why the UM150 wouldn't work for me, but after several hours with Verizon tech support, several different times, I called EVDO to get their advice. To begin with, it seems in signing a new 2 year contract for the UM150, I was giving up my original contract which had unlimited access. I was under the 30 day return policy so I returned the UM150. After I returned the UM150 and having my contract for the 650 reinstated I called EVDO again and within 10 minutes my computer was up and running again. I highly recommend EVDO, their support is excellent![/i]

Apple delivered drivers for the Powerbooks. I used them but I have no idea how you will find them on apple's website.
