| Anyone using Venturi optimizer with the new Rev A? I was wondering if Venturi is working with Aircard 595. |

Verizon EVDO Rev A was just turned on in Leonardtown, MD, an outlying rural part of the greater Washington, DC market. I've gotten Rev A in selected close-in DC suburbs since I purchased my Verizon Sierra AirCard 595 in mid-Dec 2006, but it's been Rev 0 further out until tonight.
Sprint just roams on Verizon 1XRTT and has no signal of its own in Leonardtown, MD and many other outer regions of the WashDC market, while Verizon has nearly blanket EVDO coverage (and 1XRTT in a few remote areas so Verizon really covers all of MD!).
I typically only have a signal of -102 dBm with no external antenna, and here's the speed results with a Wash DC speedtest.net server and my solid Verizon AirCard 595:
*Rev A tonight: 528 kbps DL / 114 kbps UL / 131ms latency;
*Rev 0 for last month: 430 kbps DL / 37-47 kbps UL / 243 ms latency;
*1XRTT during switchover: 125 kbps DL / 30 kbps UL / 841 ms latency.
I have solid connections even with my low signal due to the AirCard 595's features that help in fringe areas. I expect above speeds to improve when an external Booster Antenna connector becomes available for my AirCard 595 (next week?). |

Rev A is alive and well in Port Tobacco, MD. Its an outlying rural Washington, DC area. We are about 30 miles south of DC and 30 miles north of triedcdpd's location.
I have a signal of -99 dBm with no external antenna, and here's the speed results with a Wash DC speedtest.net server and my solid Verizon AirCard 595:
*Rev A tonight: 931 kbps DL / 489 kbps UL / 193ms latency;
This speed was attained on my laptop which I have connected to my gf's laptop with a network cable to connect to the internet since my newer laptop has an express card slot.
I will probably be purchasing an external antenna this week. On my LG 9800 I always have a solid 2 or 3 bars of EVDO in my house. Hopefully the external antenna helps with the 595.
Whats funny is I have had Verizon Wireless internet for about a month and just upgraded the software and firmware on my gf's computer tonight and lo and behold......Rev A. Makes me wonder how long they have had it in this area.
Triedcdpd, when you buy an external antenna send me a PM and let me know what kind of results you get since you and I are in about the same boat.
How can I not get DSL or Cable but Verizon Wireless internet is in full effect......I guess I will never know.
Long live Verizon in Southern Maryland |

Testudo, I'll let you know Verizon Rev-A speed results with my Booster-Antenna.com Booster Antenna for the AC595 (it arrives Wed 1/31).
Within the last week Verizon has upgraded from Rev-0 to Rev-A throughout its extensive Southern Maryland footprint (Verizon Rev-A in every spot I've been in St. Mary's, Charles & Calvert Counties). I'll post more speed test results soon.
Sprint has very spotty coverage in many outlying WashDC market areas, and appears content just to offer 1xRTT roaming on Verizon while Sprint builds out their existing broadband footprint (rather than expanding the Sprint footprint around edges of markets such as greater WashDC. |

I talked to a Verizon tech rep about something else and asked about Rev A. He said rev A will be 'rolled out' for all Verizon EVDO areas Feb. 15. (Didn't say what year ) _________________ Boni Pienups |

Have you been to Clements, MD (St. Mary's County)? I would hate to upgrade (with another 2 years) if they don't have it here yet. I'm on Rev. 0.
Thanks!
Opps! Just noticed that triedcdpd said: "Verizon EVDO Rev A was just turned on in Leonardtown, MD" which is where I get my signal from! |
