| Using my Verizon 595 card in Penn Station on Amtrak on Wed Jan 03 - I can report that Rev A is operational in Penn Station and in parts (not all) of the Hudson River Tunnel heading to Newark. |

Rev. A is active in Jacksonville, FL at least at the airport where VZW first rolled out Rev. 0 for the area.

Information gained from a Vz user, not verified first hand
New KY areas including Lexington and Frankfort apparently have Rev A EVDO. I am a Sprint Customer and was unable to verify this personally but gained the information from a friend who recently signed up for a plan with the 595. This makes sense as the area was just switched to EVDO offically around Christmas and follows Michael's logic of the new Vz areas being Rev A. I can recieve a nice strong ReV A roaming signal on my Sprint card but cannot connect, I guess I know what it is now.
Sorry no speed/latency test available. |

I'm in Chicago on business and decided to try speeds downtown on LaSalle. I'm surprised, however, that the speeds aren't faster.

It feels considerably faster than Rev 0.
You should install by downloading VZ Access Manager rev 6.0.6 from vzam.net to get the latest version of VZ Access Manager including a version that works with Vista.
I have a Lenovo/IBM laptop with a built-in EVDO Rev. 0 Sierra Wireless 5720 device. So first I wanted to take it out of service:
1. Turn off the built-in EVDO Rev 0. in BIOS under WAN
2. I uninstalled the Lenovo VZ Access Manager.
3. I deleted leftover files in c:\programs\sierra and c|programs\Verizon
4. Use regedit and delete the keys under software as well under Sierra, Verizon and Smith Micro [they wrote the VZ Access software]
5. Uninstall the 5720 from device manager under a) modems and b) usb devices.
6. Restart |

I don't have an actual sighting, because I don't have a Rev A card yet, but (for what it's worth) when I asked a seemingly knowledgable techie in my local Verizon storefront tonight, he looked up an email he'd received and said that it said that Rev A would be activated in Boston as of Dec. 31st, 2006.
They didn't have any cards in stock yet so he couldn't check, but he assumed that means that it's active. |

| I have been told that they are not yet shipping the cards to the retail stores nor can you purchase them through customer service. I had to purchase mine as an upgrade on-line only. Seems like a wrong thing to do to sell outdated hardware in the stores and through customer service. |

As they say in Casablanca, I am shocked, shocked to hear that Verizon might not be doing the right thing.
But seriously, when you say
> I had to purchase mine as an upgrade on-line only
what does "upgrade" mean to them? I just bought a Kyocera 650 about ten months ago, and I'm not really dying to pay full price and reset the clock to a new two year contract, but I'm assuming that's what I'll have to do. Would you mind my asking what it ended up costing you?
Thanks. |

Hello,
We are starting a new cool web site to help map out all the data in this thread (and others).
Please view http://EVDOmaps.com and if you posted some benchmarks to this thread, go ahead and add them to EVDOmaps.com, help us build a useful user based EVDO mapping tool.
Be sure to include your image links from your previous benchmarks on DSLReports and Speedtest.net _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I started my account in October 2005 and was possible to have upgrade in August, so I'd bet you could upgrade. The upgrade price was $100 which is well worth it since you need the Rev A eventually anyway. You have to go into your account on-line selecting your Aircard broadband phone number and then upgrade the device. May have to call 611 customer service for help. |
