Hello,

It seems that embedded EVDO devices (from Verizon OR Sprint) are a great idea in concept - but the carriers do not provide support directly and the manufacturers don't have a clue about EVDO. You rely on the manufacturer for support. Read about the problem I currently have with an embedded Sony laptop (the issues are similar for any carrier):

Do you have any thoughts on why the EVDO access worked during the trial period? While there are negatives to embedded EVDO, the internal antenna and not having to carry additional hardware are big positives.

Well, I can't believe it, but I just gained access. The only thing I did differently is right-click the Dell Mobile Broadband icon and choose (blindly!) Run as Administrator and then tried to connect. Miracle of miracles, it did! The test will be if it works as efficiently when I disconnect; might be a fluke. I will report again.

I'm glad to hear that you've got it to work for you. It would be interesting if you could post what speeds you're getting. There are 2 sites you can perform the speed tests at:

a) http://www.dslreports.com/stest?flash=1 ; or,

b) http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Yo hu8mypho,

Umm. I believe at this point there is nothing left to do but contact Verizon and ask them to fix it.

One of my friend's used to get this error too. He would call Verizon. Chat with them for about 2 hours and then somebody would eventually call back and tell him it is fixed.

He has had that problem occured 2 times.

Search the forums and see if you can find out to create a manual dial-up connection.

I know from Access Connections that the number for Verizon is #777.
But I do not know the username password.
Since you are getting Error 720 on a Modem (Remote Computer Did not respond or similar), I am convinced that this is some sort of dial up setup.

But I would say Calling Verizon would be your best bet.

Ok, folks, I don't know if this will apply to anyone else, but in my situation, I have managed to isolate the conflicting software that was causing me to not be able to connect. TightVNC. good luck.

Good to know you got it working.

So it turned out to be a RAS disruption, hmm.
I remember in the old days of dial-up, I used to have problems with VPN disconnecting me on my dial-up.

Since VNC (Virtual Network Connection) uses RAS service on the computer, it must have been conflicting somehow.

In any case, good to know for future problems.
Thanks for the reply.

Ok, so now that I have it working, anyone has suggestion for getting the best out of it. when I use the VZacess manager my taskmgr shows a 230k connection, download testing shows differently, but I want to increase or get the fastest actually speed that I can. I create manual Access Connection dialup and change the speed to the max and is showing a 921.6k connection. I don't know if this is really making a difference, but if there is a way to get the fastest speed out of this thing, please pass on the tip Smile

I was just in the debacle that is Verizon Support and was able to cut my problem time down by doing the following:

1) Quoted this thread
2) Requested to the level 1 support guy to speak with a level 3 support guy

The level 3 guy fixed it instantly. When I asked him what I can tell the level 1 guy to get it fixed faster, he said to quote the following:

"Remove the national access roaming and add it back again."

If this fixes your problem, be sure to get a case number and call your Verizon Rep! This is a fairly common problem, and it's a problem with Verizon's internal system! It's not going to be fixed by talking to tech support.

I struggled with this for 3 days with 3rd level support from Verizon and HW support from IBM for my X60S XP MC5720.

The fix is to uninstall the VZManager and destroy it!
Use the ThinkVantage Access Connections ... build a new profile for the WAN card to dial into #777 and ... VOILA!!!

Happy surfing ..... abe

i had an error 913 on my dell d420 yesterday and started with verizon tech support, they sent me to dell who sent me back to verizon. took all afternoon and finally i got in touch with a high-level tech at verizon who asked me connect and he watched on his end what was happening. immediately he saw the problem and told me he had to reset the DMU (i think that's the acronym) anyway everything works now.

fyi i moved around to other states over the past week and he said this might have caused it when i connected to other networks in other areas. not sure what that means but that's what he said!

hope this helps. good luck y'all.

I'm currently having the same 913 error with v740. somewhere I read on the net to try going to preferences and check 'ndis mode'.
It fixed my problem, and I confirmed by unchecking the box and the 913 error came back.

Not really sure what it does.

Haven't tried the NDIS suggestion yet, but this seems to work (so far) on my Lenovo z60t. Boot with wireless switch off. Launch VZAccess Manager. (It will tell you device disabled.) Switch on wireless radio. Wait for VZAccess Manager to recognize device is now on. Connect.

There seems to be some sort of conflict between the modem/adapter and VZAccess Manager regarding the real state of the device. I originally got this to work by disabling, then re-enabling the card. Also by uninstalling/reinstalling.

If this ends up failing, maybe I'll take the suggestion of trashing VZAccess Manager.

I had the 913 error this morning and I decided to try something that I've done when some of my VZ phones have had connection issues:

Shut down the PC
Take the battery out
Hit the power button a couple of times
Start the PC
Start up VZAccess and Connect

I don't know why this works, but it seems there's some relationship with the antenna of a Verizon phone and the battery.

Hope this helps.
