Windows Vista Ultimate RTM (build 6000, clean install)
Pantech px-500

I was unable to get Connection Manager software to install (problem with installshield version 11 packages in vista due to UAC). so I copied drivers from xp.

Works fine using DUN, but no signal strength to check.

Also, looking at network status while connected shows receive errors. after about an hour of use I have the following stats:

Sent Received Errors
1.5MB 7.8MB 7849

no issues with crc of downed files or anything.

Would really like to get Connection manager working as well as NDIS.
(I am looking into repackaging connection manager with installshield v12 to see if I can get it to install)

Please post your experiences

I wonder if this will allow MS to disable or reduce the feature set of the card if someone downloads something that conflicts with DRM. The essence of VISTA is copywrite protection for big businesses and will make existing hardware run slow as it checks out your cards and software so many times a second.

Nice! - (knew I should have bought the better card)

Just got this topic reply in my email and remembered that I wanted to post back here... I talked to sprint customer service (ok I was transferred and asked to call other #s for a while) until I got someone in tech support for the laptop cards. no specifics, but the person I spoke with felt confident that sprint would have most of their drivers released by Vista's release date & if not to call back on or after that date.

So while I hope this is true, I also posted their customer service # in my calendar for the 30th.

And if those "non-public-beta testing" sprint gurus don't release drivers for your card (as it is the software broken, not the drivers exactly) by the time Vista is out, I highly encourage you ALL to call. I am sure that expression of disappointment by a large group could get things in high gear... or maybe not.

BTW, starting today, for those that order their S720 or U720 from us, if you select "Activate Before Shipping", we will do the following:

- upgrade firmware
- download latest PRL
- activate and test card
- include a CD that has the latest drivers/support for Mac/XP/Vista (no need to download, just install from our included CD)

Oh my...

So lets just say I have one computer, which I bought at the local big box store. They store had one of those warranties: "break it and we will replace it with the current equivilant" and now they replace it with a new Vista computer... (shucks)

Of course I also have a 2 year contract with sprint for my px500, if they are not going to release drivers... are they going to give me a new card? will let let me out of my contract?

I may have to play this scenario out and see... I would be happy to exchange it for a S720/U730/S620 Very Happy

Anyone else with a px500 please post any success stories with sprint and how you got them to cooperate.

Thanks!

dear god. this sounds like a post that would come from an Windows 98 fanboy...

That's a great idea, why didn't I think of that!!! I will just wipe out the new OS and put on the old one for the sake of sprint... 'sigh'

I did talk to sprint, and was advised to talk to one of their retail stores regarding replacement of my card with a VISTA compatible one... The local store said they would swap the card with a difference paid between the price of the two... $49... I am still deciding whether to fight the $49, as i do not believe I could buy one outright (without a new contract + rebates) for that price anywhere else...

My AC 580 is working just fine with the newest version of the Sprint Connection manager under Vista. I didnt even need to adjust the compatibility setting, installed, plugged it in and was on the road.

I have the V620 running fine under Vista Ultimate. Here's what I did:
1. Download latest VZAccess Manager from Verizon. For the V620 that is currently 5.8.6.
2. Install the software.
3. Insert the card and let it detect drivers.
4. Run VZAccess Manager, and ignore the message that it doesn't work with Vista.
5. Let VZAccess configure your card.
6. Connect to the internet.
7. Play the fancy new Solitaire. Definitely the most compelling reason to upgrade to Vista.

Let me know if this works for anyone else. It is currently on a Compaq V2000 series with Turion64, 1.5 GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon X200.

Just signed up to say that I did as brendan above on a new Sony FE890 laptop with Vista Business and the V620 is working fine (posting this via it). Been online for a few hours now and no problems. Speed seems same as my old XP laptop.

PostPosted: Tue Feb 06, 2007 11:28 am    Post subject: U720 and Vista 64 bit 1722 error Reply with quote

Everytime I try to install the Novatel Wireless U720 on my Windows Vista Ultimate edition, I receive an error message stating 1722. Looking more into it, sprint nor Novatel has drivers for Vista 64 bit. I would really love to know why they are not explaining this to their sales reps. Anyway, I found out their is a loop whole around this and I am trying to figure out how I can take advantage. One of the reps at sprint said that if I install the broadband card on XP first I could take the driver from one computer to another. I tried this but Vista can not find it nor recognize it. They told me not to install the software. They said for me to do a manual search for the drivers. Has anyone tried this? If so, can you give me a break down how you did it. Appreciate any help.
