It officially supports RevA cards while KR1 doesn't yet.
But KR1 has USB phone support (limited at the moment) while I don't think the Linksys does. Hopefully Kyocera will step up to the plate, support RevA cards and more USB phone models soon. Unless they like to lose sales to competition. |

Have you actually tried one yet?
Our tech guys have been testing a few since last week and they are saying that the LinkSys Router is having stability issues with the Merlin S720 card.
The KR1 does support more EVDO Cards, and currently the KR1 does work with the S720 (but there are some performance issues). The next release of the KR1 firmware will add support for "many more" devices.
The KR1 has some GPS hacks available, so that you can throw one in a car, add a GPS, and be able to track the car on Google Earth.
We will be posting a more detailed comparison soon on the LinkSys Sprint Mobile Broadband Router - WRT54G34

| I don't see VPN listed. I don't think the KR-1 does VPN but the Top Global unit does. Am I right? |

| Ok, so my Linksys WRT54G3G-ST router just arrived Thursday from CDW. I haven't had a chance to get it hooked up yet, but I'll report back as to how it works. I'll be using it with a Novatel S620 card for now, but will hopefully be upgrading to the S720 soon. Hopefully I can get it all set up this afternoon. |

Ok so I finally got the Linksys router working. Setup and configuration were quite easy and everything seems to work very well. I have one computer actually wired into the router and another using the wireless.
The only complaint I have is the PCMCIA slot seemed almost too small to accept my S620 card. I ended up having to peel a sticker off the bottom of the card to get it to fit in the router. Otherwise, everything works perfectly.
I suppose time will tell if this will turn out to be a good product, but so far I'm quite impressed. |

I had the same problem with my 17" Aluminum Powerbook. No problem with my Sony Viaos. |

| Glad to see it is out but I'm a little suprised it does not offer support for USB cards or phones, at least nothing I've read mentions it. I'll still be waiting for a Rev A USB card and then the router that supports Rev A USB whether it will be this router or the KR1. |

It does not have a USB port, but it does have a WAN port.
There are three configuration options:
1) mobile broadband only
2) Wan only (for a cable or DSL modem)
3) Mobile Broadband and WAN
I have tried all three configurations, I do not get any degridation of speeds from the mobile broadband card (s720).
I cannot see that configuration 3 gets you any benifit, it uses the mobile broadband card only... I am not sure what the intent is in having the option to do both and I have gotten 3 stories from Linksys, one that the WAN connection is only active if the s720 loses it's signal, two that it does some kind of load balancing in the European model and three that Sprint wrote the firmware and Linksys has no idea how Sprint has configured their router...
The WRT54G3G-ST router has been sold in Europe, and Linksys support staff is unaware of the Sprint deal.
Has anyone else played with the configuration options? |

Michael,
You reported earlier that your staff was having stability issues with the Sprint router. Any update?
The KR1 with the S720 only runs at 25% of full speed (compared to using the S720 direct), and I think that's a big difference.
mackieman says he "hopes" it won't take 6 months to upgrade the firmware in the KR1 to fully support the S720, and that doesn't give me much comfort, either.
