EVDOforums.com is a technical user forum to help users navigate and use EVDO from a variety of carriers. With any carrier, there will be some people that love em and some people that hate em. In order to make it easier for those looking for support (vs. reading complaints), we have decided to have a generic "complaint thread". For those that do not care to read about others' complaints, they can easily skip this thread.
If you have a complaint about:
- Sprint's quality of service
- Sprint's Terms of Service (ToS)
- Sprint's business practices
- Any other complaint about Sprint
Please post to this thread.
If you create a new thread on the above topics, it will be deleted, so be sure to post to this thread. |

So it goes as follows. I'm in Hagerstown, Maryland and broadband access is NONEXISTANT. My friend got me to go down to the sprint store and try this 30 day risk free trial of their "broadband" access which was unheard of for the area. Well all excited, I got home and I was unable to get any speed above about 20KB/s on a download. More or less 15KB/s. After doing more research and driving 30 miles to Frederick, I notice that there is two different signals. 1xTTY and 1xEV-DO. I cannot get the BROADBAND EV-DO. I specificially asked the girl behind the counter if it was broadband speed. She confirmed that it was indeed WAY faster than dial-up. Why was I to assume any different. They had the "broadband" cards in the store.
So now at a later date even if I cancel right now, I won't be able to try it out again. I called Sprint and they ASSURED me that I could indeed try it at a later date. (Note taken and will remember). Watch them give me a run around for cancelling AND trying to get it again for 30 days. It is after all RISK-FREE correct?
So far, no luck with any broadband. Been wanting broadband for the past 3 years and still no luck. Everyone says they're expanding... to where? Islam? Pakistan? I don't see the benefits from it a year and 1/2 later! So far bad wrap for all the "local" providers. Verizon, Sprint, Antietam Cable, Earthlink... all get a thumbs down! There are still ancients and bums out there that are technology deficient. The fiber is there, LIGHT IT UP!!!!!
Sorry if I seem uptight but I'm sick of DIAL UP and I've tried contacting satellite companies and none of them will help. Hell I can't even steal WIFI... Even with a 5 Watt AMP, Amature radio licence to make that legal, and a 24 dBi Antenna! I've tried everything! |

Your best bet is not to always listen to the clerk in the store but to check the Sprint maps for yourself. You are still in a 1xRTT area at home. The girl at the store was likely right in that it was a broadband card and it does work very well there at the store just not at your physical address.
Check out the maps before going for another trial, you may be in a "future expansion area" and it will be worth looking at again when the cell sites that serve your home are converted over. Still though at 1xRTT speeds it is better than dial up. Rather stinks for latency but 100k (15-20kb/sec) beats the socks off 40k (4.5kb/sec) even though it's not EVDO. |

| See thats the other thing. I specificially told her, I didn't see Hagerstown listed for it. That was my main scepticism. What makes it stupid is the fact that Sprint can just "flip a switch" and enable it. Ultimately pointless... |
