I'll be impressed when I see a woman doing this while putting on make-up and using a cell phone and eating an egg mcmuffin in a stick-shift. Maybe I'll enlist my wife's help.
Seriously, this is pretty powerful stuff.

WHat's the story wa can do it but not legally?
My friend needs to stream live video and be able to move around in the LA area.
As I read this it is not allowed, but it works. Should we do it or be worried that we are not allowed? The plan is to use the Microsoft video streaming in Win2003AS. |

If you read Verizon Terms of Service, you will see that it is pretty restricted to just about anything (except web & email).
It is interesting that they are selling "unlimited internet"?
Keep in mind, this is new technology. It will get better, faster and all these issues will shake out over time. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Well, we women are close on this! As the person recording the second iChat @ 60 MPH demonstration iChat @ 60 mph, I think much of what you suggest was doable!

Decided to get the EV-DO and PowerBook and iSight camera out of the house tonight. Did a two way video chat with my mom on the way to Taco Bell. She's up in Dallas and I'm in Austin. Much higher speeds out in my truck driving around than in my apartment.
She said my video was good, but not as good as when I'm at home on cable. She looked great though, the video was about 85% as good as it looks when I'm at home on cable modem.
I'm ready for REV A with the higher uploads speeds. But this was a very cool test. It was pretty funny when I pulled up to the taco bell drive up window and I am talking to my mom and she is watching over the camera as the girl hands me my burritto.
At that point she says "Should you really be eating a burrito at 9 at night?"
On the way home, I turned off the iChat and streamed iTunes radio stations while my podcasts automatically downloaded the background.
Give Steve Jobs an EV-DO card for one day. After about 10 minutes of playing with it, he'll make sure every EV-DO Card on the market is compatible with Apple. _________________ Motorola Q News - http://www.qusers.com |

I have found for optimum iChat settings, on the computer on the EVDO end of the connection, make the following changes:
Bandwidth Limit = 100 kps (under Video Preferences)
This is the upstream that has an average of 50 - 110K speeds, so a higher setting, may actually hurt the quality. Also, the person on the OTHER end of the 2 way iChat, will see you perfectly and the quality will look great (that is the faster download side of things), the video quality on the EVDO end will be less).
Yes, having EVDO Rev A with 1.8mb on the download vs. 144K will be great. Using the sam math (144K X 50%, we get 70K upload speed), that means on EVDO Rev A, we will see an average of 900K on the upload speed (with higher bursts). _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I'm interested in Live Webcasting, using a video-stream.
A) stream a video to a *dedicated* server
use EvoCam (http://www.evological.com/evocam.html) with a camera
B) setup the *dedicated* server to host client viewers
this part I don't know anything about. Sounds potentially expensive, if there are a lot of users
With a PC laptop over EVDO, then one can do a LiveWebcast ("videostream")..from practically anywhere.
Anybody try this yet?
-----------------------
- Mobile Blogging [ not quite real-time ]
uses camera cellphones to picture/video email to a moblog server
as example, see my LiveWebCast project:
http://www.jumplive.com/main.html
http://www.jumplive.com/n1000/index.html
[ this was done using WiFi + mobile satellite-DSL (56k upload speeds)..out in the Middle of Nowhere. No cellphone networks ]
- Mobile Streaming/Broadcasting [ real-time ]
<see above>
I can see a scenario, where individuals can become Mobile Broadcasters (MobCasters). Just as the portable camcorder revolutionized TV coverage,
[ TV stations would buy footage from consumers, for hard-news. Tsunami stuff was all from vacation camcorders, for example. I myself was a CNN hound, see http://www.comet-track.com/indexc.html ]
the portable PC laptop/video-streaming could do the same. |
