| That is how the feature works right now. If you set the option to only allow access to specified MAC addresses, the ACL that is created does not allow devices not matching the ACL to obtain a LAN IP address. Conversely, you can also specify specific machines you don't want connected to it by selecting to deny access to MAC addresses in the ACL. |

How about just designing it properly so that it doesn't have to be
power-cycled every day to clear lock-ups like the KR1? |

Or you could find one of the threads that talks about your issue and seek help instead of useless posts like this one? Just a thought. |

Actually, I have posted this problem a number of times, along with documentation such as KR1 logs, signal levels, etc. I would also note that a significant number of other users have posted comments and info concerning this same issue. I have tried all the suggestions, incl. returning the unit to the factory for a replacement, disabling wifi, adding a yagi antenna, and (most recently) loading the new firmware revision. The issue still remains for me, as well as many others. At this point, I believe that it is a design issue involving the EVDO card reset mechanism, (the KPC650 lockup itself is probably location/tower dependent), but that's just my opinion, and worth what you just paid for it
Initially, I wasn't going to reply, since I do believe that this is off-topic, and my initial post was somewhat sarcastic (for which I apologize), but I felt that I had to clarify the reason behind it. I do have a great deal of respect for those posters who have taken the time and effort to try to help those of us with problems related to the KR1. My initial comment was not directed at them, but was merely an expression of my frustration with this issue. EVDO is the only means of getting broadband connectivity at my location, so for me the KR1 became a sort of life-raft... unfortunately, that life raft seems to have a few holes in it, and constantly needs re-inflating . Enough said!.

Al, you may want to add your experience to the KR1 RK1006 Firmware ISSUE thread: http://www.evdoforums.com/about2905.html
There have only been two tech cases we have handled at Booster-Antenna.com and two other reports on the forums here where users still experienced connection drops after updating to RK1006. In one of those cases the poster had card leakage issues (PC5220), one case was a unit purchased used, so was not covered by warranty, and the remaining two cases were covered under warranty. Those two eplacement units were updated and continue to work great.
All others purchasing KR1 routers with RK1006 firmware through Booster-Antenna.com or that we have helped through the update process no longer had connection drops.
The update really has had a significant impact. |

User defined times to disconnect and re-connect from the EVDO, not unlike the IP and MAC address filters.
Auto-standby/disconnect based on non-use (maybe based on LAN-side initiated traffic). |

Again, this feature already exists as a function of CDMA. It's called dormancy; it maintains the data link but tears down the air link when it is not required. In so doing, you stay connected without utilizing network resources unnecessarily. |

I predict that the KR2 will support both regular data cards and expresscards. Kyocera seems to be getting cozy with Verizon, I hope it's not going be Verizon cards only that work with the KR2. Time will tell. |

| Will the KR2 have load balancing for multiple 3G connections? If not, do any routers out there have this feature? |

I still have the dropout issue with my KPC650 on my KR1, almost identical to Victor's experience in the thread above. Sort-of. Right now I'm in a one-bar area so the output of the KPC650 had to be increased as per the cellular network spec. Other times when I was right below the tower (same everything, except 5 bars) it would run almost indefinitely. WiFi off fixes everything.
I don't think having an external antenna mattered, but I should try that too when I get a chance. If it isn't, the problem is likely with power distribution or decoupling within the KR1 - when both the wifi and PCMCIA card need a power burst, it might be causing the reset, and it would have nothing to do with the power coming in. |

How about support for VPN on the KR1? Seems like a silly thing for a router not to support and it has prevented me from purchasing one.
