We started a Kyocera KR1 Wish List some months ago.

Now it is time to start a new thread for the Kyocera KR2 Router (or TXRTR10012)

First of all, we don't have any inside information on this Kyocera KR2, we just want to create a thread for it to see what ideas our users have. Take a look at the Kyocera KR1 Wish List - some of those ideas have been implemented already (and some have not).

If you were in charge of product development, what features would you add to the Kyocera KR2 Router and why?

The EVDO phones seem to make the KR1 redundant for me.

Boy it looks like Kyocera has thier work cut out for them. Michael ,any word on when that Linksys unit will be available that Sprint was showing off at CTIA? It stood upright so it had a much smaller footprint.[/quote]

I saw a blurb about that Linksys model in a computer mag recently and searched around the net but it doesn't seem to be out. I've never cracked open my KR1, but judging from the weight, it seems there is a lot of room that could be saved.

I have a Treo 600, bluetooth, and an old iPaq 5400, bluetooth, wifi and gps with an adapter.

The iPaq isn't much larger than the 600, but noticeably so.

Why not have a phone, bluetooth, wifi and evdo. A Treo with wifi would be dynamite...

In other words, everything could be phone size, portable, battery operated.

Also, the Treo's ac adapter is the smallest I have seen yet...

1. A limited battery, or perhaps an idle or suspend mode so when I shut off my ignition and it loses the main power it doesn't have to reboot and take a minute to get sane again.

2. Just publish the full (GPL!) kernel or leave everything working so USB storage, other serial or IO devices, etc will "just work" even if it isn't supported, e.g. to plug in a USB GPS device, or my iPod.

3. A different form factor (less wide but higher, more cube like) would help, as would moving the antenna connector so it wouldn't block the power connector when the antenna was sideways.

4. Leave a serial port to the outside availabe as in the KR1.

5. Full pcmcia stack so EVDO cards could be ejected, and other cards could be inserted.

6. Full EVDO card driver including signal strength and activation / PRL update,

I'm going to throw a couple of things in here that has been rolling around in the back of my head.

1. BlueTooth support for DUN.
2. Captive Portal.
3. CLI with Telnet capabilities.
4. USB support for printing/storage devices.
5. Native VoIP support (using rev. A and number six).
6. Native software-based QoS.
7. Ethernet port for WAN (auto failover, not load balancing).
8. Support rev. 0, rev. A, UMTS, HSDPA, and three squirrels with two tin cans and some bailing wire.
9. Other miscellaneous advanced routing features (static routes, better filtering, etc).

How so? This is a first of its kind product from a company who doesn't normally do these sorts of things. Nobody else has these sorts of features in their routers.

MAC filtering for WiFi is fairly standard on WiFi routers. It just seems to me that since D-Link makes other routers that do this, it would be easy to have included this on the KR1.

MAC filtering may not be a very secure method but it stops most people. It also makes it easy to setup WiFi clients with poor WEP/WPA implementations.

Just my opinion...I really like the KR1 for the most part.

I have seen the MAC filter to access the internet on the KR1. This is a nice feature as well.

I would like to see a MAC filter that would allow or dis-allow connecting to the router via WiFi. eg: "Keep out the Riff-Raff" If I'm not mistaken, if I turn off WEP, then any WiFi client could connect to the KR1 and be on your LAN. You could prevent that Client from connecting to the internet but not your other computers on the LAN
