|
|
Please post your SUCCESS results after upgrading your Kyocera KR1 EVDO Router from RK1001 or RK1002 firmware to the new RK1006 firmware version. See our ISSUE thread if it didn't work.
If you were successful, please note the following details:
Provider and EVDO card model.
What platform (Mac/Windows/Linux/BSD, etc) and what browser used to upload the RK1006.bix firmware file.
Where you downloaded the firmware, and what format it was (either the raw .bix file or zipped). |

First thing I tested, was a Sprint PC5740.
PowerBook, Camino to upload the RK1006.bx file.
Downloaded the firmware from EVDOinfo.com (raw).
This is a great thread, as we can get a better feel for this firmware release. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Sprint S620 in either Automatic, locked to 1xRTT-only or EVDO-only.
Powermac G5 with OS 10.4.7, Mozilla Firefox browser V. 1.5.0.4.
Raw firmware file was directly downloaded to desktop from Kyocera's server using Mozilla Firefox.
This KR1 is set to WEP, custom SSID, everything else is usually default. Last Uptime (card now in another device): 48 hrs. Connection to KR1: Cat5>Netgear switch>Cat5>Netgear switch>Netgear powerline bridge/switch>AC lines>Netgear powerline bridge/switch>KR1.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Verizon KPC650.
Sony VAIO running WinXP Pro SP2, Internet Explorer V. 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp.050622-1524.
Firmware came off of our servers, is a zipped version that originated from Kyocera.
This KR1 is set to WPA-PSK, custom SSID, and has lots of custom configs. Uptime since last boot: 21 hours. Connects fine. Same ugly connection path to my router room as above. |

Verizon Broadband
KPC650
MacBook Pro (OS X 10.4.7)
Safari
.zip file from link in announcement email
over CAT5 cable to KR1 with MacBook Pro's internal Airport turned off
Signal strength looks great, but didn't do any real testing other than to know that it worked.

| The KR1 firmware upgrade worked the first time with no problems. Mac 10.4.7 Safari. Sprint Merlin S620. Zipped file. It is easy when it works. |

KPC 650 with Verizon
Windows ME
Used .zip file from EVDO which I unzipped into a new folder, used IE 6 as browser for upload. Upgrade went smoothly and KR1 restarted itself. All seems normal, and I hope the dropped connections I was occasionally experiencing are a thing of the past. The new signal strength meter helped me to get a better aim with my booster antennae from EVDO (which is omni-directional) going from 6-7 bars to 8. |

This is only my second post to this forum. I just wanted to let everyone know that I just received the KR1 with the fix for my PC5740 and it works great. I have been following this forum for what seems like ages waiting for the PC5740 fix to be announced. As soon as the announcement was made I placed my order. We've only had it two days but I and my wife couldn't be happier.
We are full time RVers and travel quite extensively year round and we both spend much of our time online. I design and maintain web sites and the wife has other online stuff she works on. We each spend on average of 5 hours or more everyday 24/7/365. This router now allows for both of us to be online at the same time and cuts our work days in half.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!! _________________ Glenn |

Downloaded raw bix from verizon via PowerBook 1.5Ghz, OS 10.4.7, with FireFox 1.5.0.5.
I tend to run with scissors, so against all advice I updated the firmware with the KPC650 running in the KR1 connecting to my lapptop via Wi-Fi (it's recommended to use an Ethernet cable between the KR1 and computer).
I thought I bricked the KR1 during the update, as the KR-1 hung during the update and never power-cycled itself. So after about 10 minutes, I manually power-cycled the KR1, but a reboot confirmed that all was well and the firmware update took. So far, so good, although I didn't notice issues with the prior version...

Verizon PC-5740
Windows XP via Firefox 1.5.0.4
Firmware in .bix format directly from Kyocera website
No problems and I used to get WAN/EVDO disconnects (red status light, only fix was to reboot router) every 24 to 48 hours. Now, it hasn't done it since. |

| I easily flashed my KR1 using Firefox to download the .zip file and instructions from EVDOInfo. I have an updated Windows XP OS, Sprint, and the Merlin S620. The system did flash the success message with countdown to reboot and I didn't have to do anything except wait. I had been experiencing disconnects in my area but they seem to have been reduced since the upgrade. |

PC5740 card from Sprint
used .bix file provided on CD
Windows XPP with IE7
The KR1 I was shipped had a problem where the router would reset on any activity (even over a wired LAN port) if wireless was enabled. Disabling wireless solved the issue, but took away that functionality.
A call to B-A.com tech support and they set me up with a RMA. Kyocera called me the next morning and I had a replacement router the day after that. Excellent service.
No issues with the new router. I'm getting 850k-1100k down / 95k-120k up speeds consistantly over wired or wireless. When running the 1002 firmware, I was gettign about 350k-400k up at best. |
