|
|
This thread will be a discussion to discuss how to remove the previous Novatel Mac Drivers (Novatel V620 Driver 1.1.2).
If you have installed these drivers, if you install the Mac OS X 10.4.7 update with EVDO support, the new features will not work - you need to remove the drivers, OR perform a System Archive and Install.
We don't have directions for the proper removal (yet), performing a System Archive and Install prior to installing the Mac OS X 10.4.7 update will allow the new 10.4.7 drivers to work.
Watch this thread for more information. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

On last model ppc 17" Powerbook.
The strength bars and menu showed up after the install and reboot and worked fine. They disappeared after a shutdown and turn on the next day. The modem menu with the phone continues to work.
I downloaded the full package and reupgraded. Same thing. |

I DID IT! DRIVERS REMOVED AND IT WORKS!
I'm not certain if this is the way, but the driver "MerlinV620Driver.kext is located in the HARD DRIVE>SYSTEM>LIBRARY>EXTENSIONS folder.
Copy it to the desktop and rename (I added a 1 in case I needed it later). Then trash the one in the folder (req. Admin login/password).
Remove the card after powering off. Removed the old network location.
Restart with card OUT.
After reboot, I popped in the card and THERE IT WAS! Set up new location with #777 and it works in 10.4.7 - YES, after having old drivers under 10.4.6.
If anyone else tries this successfully, let me know.
Cheers! |

Yes, removing the merlin kext file works with Sprint. Now the power bars remain intact after a shutdown and reboot.
However, using Sprint S620 the kext file was not replaced in the extension folder but it still works.
The data remained in the internet connect dialog and I did not have to replace any of it.
I am running on the 1xRTT in Okeechobee, FL for the weekend and EVDO is greayed out. I am showing no bars while my cell phone shows two bars.
Internetfrog.com gives me a whopping 88 kbps download and 22 kbps upload! Blistering fast... |

I'm in Pompano Beach, FL now and getting 346 down, 48 up (not spectacular, but better than the 100k or so I had before). Antenna arrives Monday.
Any further fixes would be great to know as well. I'm just glad to see signal metering at this point. Updates would be good too, I'm sure.
Thanks! |

Your procedure worked perfectly for me! Thanks.
So.. now that I have the Apple drivers for my EVDO, how do you open up the secret/hidden menu options? |

opt+click in the menu bar on the meter
Got around 1Mbps down speed today, too. |

Cool. Thanks!
Questions:
1. When you activate logging, where does the log get written to? I don't see anything in /var/log or /var/tmp.
2. You mention "Got around 1Mbps down speed today" -- did the new menu item tell you that? How?
3. My RSSI says "-92 dBm" -- is that my antenna strength? (I waver between 1 and 2 bars here).
4. The Test Commands submenu is empty. Is there another secret command to get that one to work? |

| I did the uninstall and everything works fine, but I still have two menubar card icons, the new one with the antenna and bars and the old "unknown card" icon. Can I get rid of the old one? How? |

We see output to /var/log/ppp.log
