Closing Thoughts: I'm still not convinced the system is 100% free and clear of errors. The Vaio will still lock up if I insert a USB device while the V620 is in the PCMCIA slot. Odd...in any case I will leave it be since it is now working.

hmm, did you find the upgraded driver that I am using? maybe that would fix the final lock up problem?

Nah, Novatel doesn't seem to have their drivers listed on their site. I left a message on one of their tech's voicemail but never received a return call. Ah well, maybe I can make the push for a new laptop! Smile

I just wanted to quickly update this thread with some new info.

My victory over the Sony was short lived because not too much longer the "freeze" started to occur again. I've kinda lost interest in pursuing the Novatel V620 in the Sony. (Edit) Our local Verizon rep. sent me the PC 5220 as a replacement. Apparently, the PC 5220 was working in the Sony previously.

On a positive note a technician from Novatel actually returned my phone call and had me forward him many of the same notes I have been posting here. Those notes are supposedly being reviewed by one of the engineers over there. Hopefully someone will get back with me and provide some new information. I'll report back if indeed there is a known issue with this card and the Ricoh PC Card Reader.

Thanks for your attention.

Eugenio

I'm having the same problem with my Z505. I have spent 5 hours with Verizon, a few minutes with Microsoft and 2 hours and 45 minutes with Sony last night. I saw a solution in another thread but I don't know how to get into the bios setting when I boot up to make the suggested change.
I'm very frustrated but this forum is great.

Just to let the mod's know the tech I spoke with at Sony actually told me about this forum and told me to come here and look around.
Pretty cool for you guys!

Greetings mmos.

If you explore your VZAccess CD that came with the Verizon package you'll find the drivers folder. Of course, if you read through this thread and are experiencing the same problem then chances are you are in the same boat as us.

Thank you for the replies. If you could, check to see what PCMCIA Card Reader you have so that we can collaborate. I will probably shoot my POC at Novatel an Email tomorrow/later today to see if they have made any progress.

Thanks again for your input.

Anybody find anything out this week?
I called Novatel and they said I should call Sony again. I will be calling Sony again tomorrow.
This is nuts.

I sent a follow up Email this past Monday (5/23/05) to see if Novatel had made any progress. I have yet to get a response. Monday will make week 3 that I have been waiting for a 2nd response. I unfortunately do not have access to Sony's support since the Vaio I am servicing is out of warranty. Sad Maybe I'll call again. If Sony doesn't give you any results you might want to try Novatel. Earlier in this thread I mentioned that I had called Novatel. Surprisingly enough they actually called me back.

Please keep us posted if you hear of something or find something out.

Thank you much.

Eugenio

I'm in the same boat with all of you. I'm at work now and don't have my notebook w/ me, but I'm pretty sure I have the Ricoh Bus Driver as well. Exact same lock-up problem as Euginio. Spent hours on the phone with Verizon (who said they weren't aware of any problem with the V505) as of last week. Sony gave me nothing as usual.. the computer is a whole 1.5 years old so of course they've dropped all support for it... that company sucks butt. I put the card in my work notebook (Dell Latitude C640) and had no problems at all. The one guy mentioned 2 PCI buses installing, and then 4... I had the same thing. I got windows to install the card by just sticking it in and not using the setup wizard, but the victory was short-lived (about 5 minutes). There is a major issue here... and I WISH somebody would help us out. VERIZON, SONY (yeah right), NOVATEL, Anyone... HELP US!!!!

Hello folks,

It appears I am having the same problem with my laptop, which is a Gateway M275. I have worked with Verizon Wireless and Gateway Tech support and still no solution. My keyboard and mousepad locks up approxamately 2 minutes after I connect to the internet. I am going to try uninstalling the NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller and see if that fixes the problem but I am not too convinced it will. Anyone else has any ideas?????

P.S. I too, have the Ricoh R/RL/5c476(II) and driver version 2.0.1.6x for the V620 card.

What type of help did Verizon or Gateway provide?

According to this page:

http://www.evdoinfo.com/Tips/PC_5220/Sierra_Wireless_PC5220_%10_AC580_Compatibility_Issues_20050527293/

The Gateway M275 is listed as one of the computers that IS having a problem. Many of the problems are due to the PCMCIA slot not providing enough power and that causes all sorts of problems.

I exchanged my Novatel for the Audiovox PC5220 and it works just as fast with NO vaio problems. FYI. Customer Service at verizon will ship it to you with a Fed-Ex return label to return the Novatel once you receive the AudioVox. It cost me $50, plus an extra $5 for overnight FedEx delivery. I am much much happier with this model.

They offered help in troubleshooting in terms of uninstalling and reinstalling drivers. That link you offered shows that my laptop is having problems with the card Verizon recommended that I get instead of the V620. Gateway also offered to have me send in my laptop so that they can take a look at it more closely. I think I might just do that.

Thanks for the info!!
