According to Engadget, Sprint has quietly started their EVDO rollout:
Quote:
They’ve quietly flipped the switch on EV-DO in Kansas City, as well as the Port Columbus International Airport, Columbus, Ohio, and the Charlotte International Airport in Charlotte, NC. Coverage at airports in Las Vegas, Raleigh-Durham, Cleveland, Des Moines, St. Louis, and New Orleans is coming soon. Sprint doesn’t have any cellphones that are compatible with EV-DO, so if you feel like taking the network for a spin you’ll have to use the Sierra Wireless 580, that EV-DO wireless laptop card Sprint introduced back in March.

This is great news. Let the EV-DO competition BEGIN! Verizon still has a huge lead.

If anyone in any of the above areas has a Sprint AirCard 580 (or EV-DO phone), please confirm that you have coverage and post your details here.

For anyone posting about Sprint EVDO Coverage, please post your message here while you are using Sprint EVDO. this way I can see (nobody else can), the range of IPs that Sprint is using.

Also, let use know what you are using for testing and if you are using the built in or external booster antenna.

I think Sierra AirCard 580 is the only current Sprint EVDO device. Look for Sprint to announce the Novatel V620 some time in the near future.

Update. Sprint Added the Novatel S620, now look for them to soon add the Kyocera KPC650 for use on Sprint EVDO

I'm pleased to be using Sprint EVDO for the first time. I've had the AirCard 580 for about 3 months. In Las Vegas on a small vacation, I tried picking up EVDO from my room at the Mirage hotel and casino, but no luck. Seems to only be working at LAS Airport, from what I can tell.

Location: Las Vegas McCarran, in the Hertz parking lot (stall 118).
Card: Air Card 580 -no external antenna used
Signal Strength: 5 bars
RSSI: -60 dBm

Speed seems ok for me.

Results from Bandwidth Speed Test. http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/
Communications: 1.8 megabits per second
Storage: 225.7 kilobytes per second
1MB file download: 4.5 seconds
Subjective rating: Great

You'll pull the IP address. I'm showing 68.30.254.xx.

If you look at ther tentative Sprint EVDO Rollout, airports are getting it first.

Next time in Las Vegas, at least I know I can get a 5 bar in stall 118 Smile

Thanks for the post

Tested in Charlotte today, but was unable to receive EV-DO signal. A friend of mine saw some signs posted last week saying it was available, but cannot remember which concourse.

Connections were attempted in the US Airways Club (C concouse) and also in the B concourse, B10, but I just received the normal Sprint service.

If anybody else reading happens to be in Charlotte, please post results.

Well the schedule indicated that Des Moines was one of the earlier locations to be rolled out Metro-wide. I cannot confirm yet for other suburbs, but I'm currently several miles outside of Des Moines, in Altoona, IA, picking up a strong EVDO signal.

Location: Altoona, IA near Adventureland & Prairie Meadows
Card: Air Card 580 -no external antenna used
Signal Strength: 4 bars
RSSI: -78 dBm

Speed seems good.

Look up Des Moines at the URL below, is your area in the covered area:

Here is the key for the maps:

Altoona is within the EVDO coverage area on the Des Moines map, however, the map seems to be missing some colors. It's all white out in the rural areas, where it should be blue 'Off Network Service'

Just got a taste of EVDO near O'Hare this evening during my ride home from the airport. Signal ranged from 3 to 5 bars (mobile). I have yet to confirm coverage inside the terminals but I'm sure it's there.

Heading south on I294, I was able to stay connected with EVDO service until about 1 mile south of Irving Park Rd.
