I have had smart phones for the last 3 handsets I have used. I am looking forward to diving headfirst into the world of EV-DO. I am seriously considering the Verizon VX6700, but now that time has come to go for it, I am almost hesitant to go through with it. The reason being that I am not sure I want to have the Phone/PDA as ONE device thing any more, that and I would love to have a PDA with EV-DO and a 640x480 screen.

So are there any PDAs with 640x480 screens that can somehow take advantage of EV-DO? I'd love this for VNCing into my Mac at home. I am willing to carry a handset, perhaps with BlueTooth and EV-DO AND a PDA, but only if the solution is elegant enough to use frequently, like several times an hour. I don't have to have to use a CF to PCMCIA converter and so on, but if I could connect to a handset with BT and use it that way... I could get into that...

ANy ideas?

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for your advice...

Until voice AND data are a reality, and by that I mean *network wide*, there still will be limitations when wanting/needing to do voice and data at the same time.

Once EVDO rev A and UMTS/HSDPA are fully rolled out, perhaps a single device will emerge that Does it All (tm). Until then expect workarounds, such as carrying two devices, or expect that your data sessions will be paused for calls (or that your calls will/may be rolled to voicemail depending on your setup).

Of course this doesn't even touch on a few VERY major things: platform/software integration, data syncing, and user interface/device interface functionality. Nobody has delivered the killer device, be it service provider or device manufacturer.

Currently I'm packing an XV6700 on Verizon for data (though it has a voice plan) and an unlocked/unbranded Treo650 on Cingular for calls and contact/calendar data (though it has a data plan). Then there is the backup Nokia on T-Mobile.

I hear you, I also would like to use my PDA with my Merlin S620 card. I found the CF to PCMCIA converter (thanks to your description, I was using incorrect terminology) but the question is, does Sprint or Novatel provide support software for a PDA running Mobile 2003? I'll have to check with customer support on both sites, I guess.
