Thanks for the link to that speed test. But, I'm getting some strange results. I've got a Samsung a920 phone tethered via USB.
At the dslreports site I typically see around 300kbs and my downloads seem to be right around 300. This test shows higher numbers but it seems to be limited by something either on the phone or on my PC. This is based on the "receiver limited" stat listed below.
I'm thinking I've got some tuning to do to bring my speeds up... does anyone have any thoughts on where to start looking?
running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 97.18Kb/s
running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 421.48kb/s
------ Client System Details ------

try it.
if your RWIN is at 17520 or something crap like that, use the TCP Optimiser and set it to optimal and push the speed dial at the top all the way to 3000 or so to make up for TCP overhead. |

Thanks for the tip... that did help. A lot.
My average speed jumped from around 275 to 450kbps. |

You are pointing to HA 68.28.153.76 or 77, which I think is in Chicago. Might want to experiment with the Georgia HA (see post #1).
Then again, for anyone who travels cross country often, keeping the HA pointed to the Midwest might be best.
More info...
From the traceroute results, you can see there are typically 7-8 hops on the cell network before it hits the Internet backbone. The hops between the end of cell network to the final destination on the Internet backbone can be 15-30 hops or more. If pointed to a Midwest HA, you'll always have 7-8 cell network hops but statistically an average lower number of Internet backbone hops to various websites in the US.
In general though, the tower you are on and the distance/obstructions between you and the tower (signal strength) will likely have more of a performance factor than the HA you point to (ever since Sprint turned off compression that is). |

| For whatever it is worth, I downloaded a 260 MB .dmg file yesterday in about two hours with not disconnect. Safari said I was getting 37+ kbs. The download was about 2+ Megs a minute. |

|
|
| Ive followed this thread for awhile so I apologize if I'm just missing it. I finally got my msl from sprint and my primary is 68.28.145.76. How do I find where that is and what the HA's in my area are. I looked at the map that was posted and when I got down to street level none of the towers where clickable. |

See post #1, that HA is in the Chicago region. You can experiment with other HAs listed in post #1.
The towers are not really directly associated to the Home Agents as any device can technically connect via any HA. There are only a dozen or so HAs separated by region while there are 26,000+ towers out there. |

Thanks for the clarification, I tried all of them and settled on .153.76, I was getting sub 300 and now get right around 490 up after tweaking it on dsl reports. I'm still a little disappointed being in the cincinnati area their map shows me in evdo area I was expecting something much higher.
Some improvement is better than none I guess.

I am in Oklahoma City,
any suggestions on which HA's I should try for best performance?
Also I have a question posted earlier about the billing address being different from the HA you are using if you choose to change it?
I am confused as to what problems it can cause ?
Please advise of the Best HA's for me
I tried the one suggested in post #1 and then the one that was shown with great speakeasy results (The guy in Dallas using Kansas City)
and i went from getting 200K to not consistently getting 1.1-1.2Mbps
huge difference for me, I was not getting any help from all from Sprint ....
IN FACT, they told me that unless I get a speedtest (only using speakeasy, which, i also beleive is a bit higher than normal) under 300K , they won't even put in a troubleshoot ticket
using these HA's I not get a extreme consistency of 1.1-1.2Mbps
I will like to go higher though if possible
I had Alltel EVDO for a few days and got up to 1.9Mbps-2.2Mbps range and that was very nice....
I know it will change (times of day, traffic, etc etc)
but shouldnt there be a better answer than having to resort to this , I cannot reach anyone in my area that will address these slow speeds
thanks everyone for the help, it's quite ironic that without this thread, (not even Sprint) , I would have returned my card and jumped back on ALLTEL tomorrow
thanks!

Do you mean 'now' and not 'not'? It surprises me the HA would make that much difference now that Sprint turned off compression proxies, but great if that is the case.
What was your HA address beforehand? If you do an Update Profile in Connection Manager, it will set the HA back to the defaults. You can then change back to what works for you.
The KC, Omaha or Ft Worth HAs should be tried first for your location.
As far as billing address, it appears the HA is set based on billing address or maybe where card was purchased, not your present location. So if your billing address is on E Coast, your HA is likely set there. If you travel to W Coast, all traffic bounces back and forth across country. May be best to set HA near your present location. OTOH, when I was in Florida, setting HA to KC was notably faster than the Georgia HA (but this was before Sprint turned off compression proxies).
Would be interesting to know what your default HA is. |

you are correct i meant to type "now" instead of "not"
my original HA's were 68.28.185.76 and
68.28.177.76
can u tell me what they do for you
for me i got a max top out at 300k from these
pretty lousy....
also, where are these 68.28.89.76
68.28.81.76 ? (from post#1)
like i said before, at full signal i get about 1.2Mbps consistently from them so far..... |

| Hmm, 185 is the HA in Georgia. I'm showing it to be very slow too, can only do 150 to maybe 300Kbps yet can get 1Mbps to other HAs. Will send a message to Sprint and see if they can check it out. |
