According to our Sprint Tech Contact. PRL 20218 supports wireless data roaming in Canada & Mexico. This PRL is avaialble for the Merlin S620 and will be available for the AirCard 580 soon.

We will try to find out more, about how this gets enabled (for example, do you have to call Sprint to enable it, or will your aircard automatically roam in Mexico & Canada)?

Either way, this is good news, more to follow.

Please, any details you can. We are planning a RV trip across Canada for several months this summer and I was just sitting down to research my internet options.

Yes this is great news. Any details on rates, plans, options, etc... will be appreciated. There are 3 cities with EVDO in Mexico (Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey) and just about all other smaller cities have 1XRTT.

I talked to a Sprint engineer at the HQ and he said 1xRTT data roaming is coming for within the US too. He mentioned Canada roaming but no Mexico. This will be a nice bonus.

Need to know who I can tak to about this. I spoke with Sprint just last week about roaming, they said it wasn't possible. I have the S620 card, so I should be good to go.

Thanks,
Mark

Easiest way to see if you have the updated PRL. In the menu go to 'Device info. and diagnostics'. Here, it will tell you the PRL version, at the top. If you have 20218, you are good to go. Unfortunately I have an AC 580. Even with the more recent software update, I didnt get the PRL update. If your PRL is 20212, and doing a software update didnt fix it, you will need to go to an actual Sprint store and have them flash the card.

Just checked, I have PRL 20218, thanks!

So where in Canada can I roam. I've looked at the maps up there through the world wide CDMA site and see most of lower Ontario is equipped.

I'm interested in both EVDO and 1xRTT... looks like Bell CA has good 1x coverage in all of lower Ontario.
