| This one is proving to be a bit tricky. That's why there has been a delay. I know you guys are chomping at the bit to get the fix but it won't come until it is tested and confirmed to be stable. I hoped to have it out by now but there is still work to be done. |

The last ETA was July 7 (tomorrow). Is there a different ETA? My KR1 is just sitting here wanly until it works with the POS EVDO card Verizon sold me....
Thanks!!! |

If Kocera had claimed to support the card in question, and yet supported it poorly, then your assertion would be correct. However, to my knowledge Kyocera has not asserted that they support the EVDO card in question, so it is unreasonable to put them on the hook like this.
Also, as someone who spent his career making complex software, from device drivers to enterprise applications, it is also unreasonable to presume that quickly putting out a patch is 1) possible, and 2) won't be hasty to the point that new problems are created, leaving the customer less happy than before.
Your frustration and anticipation are understandable, because I'm in exactly the same boat. But please re-evaluate the stated justifications for your unhappiness. My humble two cents. |

Thanks for your understanding. To be clear, there has never been a full fix for the PC5740. There was a fix made for initial compatibility but it was never tweaked and tested to perform well on the Sprint network. Other bugs were tackled first because this fix actually cost extra to implement because the 5740 was never on the original list of devices that should be compatible with KR1. As you know, there is a huge difference between loading a device and calling it supported. It works the same way in Windows: just because you connect a new printer to your computer that does not mean that it will fully perform until you get the right software loaded and tweak the settings. |

I realize I created this situation by not getting enough information beforehand, but it's difficult when all the info is online and I have no net at home and my grad school buildings are closed for a holiday week. I am sorry for raging about having a fix but not releasing it.
But I still have to ask, when will the fix be available, and what else will it fix? At this point I'm almost certain I'm best served returning the K1 and paying the extra 100 for the other model. Not only am I getting barely dial-up quality speeds, but I have the constant disconnection problem, too. (I've tried the various suggestions on the thread about this problem and none have solved it.)
To the site admin, what is your return policy? I got the router today and it's clear it's not going to do it for me. It has dropped the connection three times as I've tried to post this alone. |

| I probably will still end up returning the K1, but if I can use it i'd like to, if only to save a few bucks. As I mentioned in another thread, I've found the disconnection issue is related to my bittorrent app, azureus on mac os 10.3.9, for the record, and if there's a solution to that conflict I may prove willing to wait out a firmware update, provided that it won't be another 6 months till it's out. If anyone can give some ballpark idea as to when the update will really and truly be ready I'd appreciate it. For various reasons this is my only option for home net, and obviously I'd like to get full functionality from it. |

Mr. Mackieman,
I wish that you had been as clear from the getgo as you were above. If you properly set customer expectations, you will find that they will be much more understanding. So, your saying two more weeks (maybe)?
Unfortinatly, since I recieved my K1 on the first day they were available, I'm way past my 14 day return window. I really hate to throw $300 away.

I have been watching the postings on this site for a while, waiting for this date (7/7/06) to arrive. I did not waste my money on the KR1. I have the option of another card that would work with the router. It would be nice of them to set a definite firmware release date for people like me. Don't want to wait forever........ WHERE'S THE BEEF?
Don't they realize they are going to miss a lot of potential sales over this?
I got rid of my Roadrunner in hopes of sharing my wireless connection, I am willing to spend a bit more cash to do this is there any other router that works with the PC5740? Can someone send me a link. Running out of patients |

It's the classic definition of a Catch-22. If a firm date is given and missed, you're bemoaned from on high for poor planning, execution, and it is occasionally insinuated that your mother was not married when you were born.
On the other hand, if you're vague knowing that you have a target date you're shooting for but will not (or cannot) give specifics because you know all too well the laws of one named Murphy who ceaselessly throw wrenches into the cogs of progress, you're chastised for not giving a firm date and letting the whole world know before it is safe to do so.
Just one of those things, I suppose. |

No, actually it's called management. You list the tasks needed to accomplish your project. You then get estimints of the time required for each task. You regularly monitor the work done/work required and adjust the schedule.
The worst sin a manager can commit is to get to a delivery date and (out of the blue) drop the "we need more time" bomb. That means that your management process is lacking. (Jezes, I usually get money for this...)

“Top Global units. They work fine with the 5740”
Does anybody have this unit? It is not on the list of supported cards. I’m ok with a little extra money but $500.00 more is a bit steep. Maybe I can wait a little longer.
If I would have known the issues I would have bought the Merlin S620 card for $20 more through Sprint. That seems the cheapest option if I change cards. Only thing my good deal of $29 per month of unlimited access would end if I went with a new 2 year contract ($29 not a misprint) Normal is $79, got a $59 special with an additional $25 credit for 2 years. At that time I thought I would be able to share it with a standard Router. I do still have confidence in Kyocera. I had good experience with the older data cable/dial up technology when the others lagged behind.
But I think there should be another date set and updated regularly to let people know. If they knew they couldn’t meet the date they should get the message out, instead of a lot of people getting pissed off on the expected date. |
