I ordered on day one and recieved my KR1 2-3 days later! (As I said, spectacular customer support by Booster Antenna.)
At the time, the 5740 was supported! At this point, ypu (Mr. Signal) ranting about how the 5740 is junk and I shouldn't have purchased it is not helpful.
Now, as I recall without re-reading the entier thread (again), someone mentioned that they had a fix for the slowdown problem on or about March 4, but their card was in LA. Again, Kyocera has had a fix for three months and are sitting on it. If this statement is not true, please set me straight.
One thing I do know about is delivering products to customers. Do you want to compare resumes? The KR1 is a very cool product at a very attractive price point. It is not rocket science. If I had a Product Manager who let engineers work on new features (like signal strength bars) while I had customers who's boxed were running at half speed, I'd be talking to my VP about proarties!

Some times I feel like I'm talking to a post. What I recall reading was that the software release was not ready because they were adding features. If that is incorrect, I'm sure I'll be corrected. I don't recall saying anybody lied. I've not heard anybody point out any inaccuracies.
Maybe I've been a customer advocate for too long. That Mr. Mackieman is am emploee of Kyocera says a lot. He must be very carefull of what he says on these forums. Let me address this to him.
Mr. Mackieman, if you guys are actually going to meet the June 30 date, another 3 weeks is not going to kill me. But if the June 30 date is not real, please, please, please, how about an interum release to fix the bugs you have code for? I understand that complicates the support since there are multiple software releases out, but the big release will collect all the straggelers.

Hi gurus,
I saw an article about the KR1 and eventually made my way to this forum. Facinating discussions. Thanks for the time many of you have taken to contribute. I do have a Sprint 5740 card. It works fine on my 3 lb Vaio TR2A sublaptop running on battery. I can use it where there is no AC nearby.
My question to you folks agonizing about the KR1's lack of compatibility to the 5740 card:
1. Why was the last post in Feb 7th 06? Did the problem get solved by Kyocera? Or is the slowdown problem still there?
2. On a Mac with Internet Sharing, you can turn a dialup connection into a WiFi hotspot and specify your SSID and Channel and encryption to use. Effectively turning your laptop into a WiFi Router. Under WindowsXP, I can get Windows to route my EVDO connection to the Ethernet port, and then plug an Access Point into the Ethernet port of my laptop to create a hotspot. But I cannot figure out how to get it to route to the WiFi port as an AP. There used to be a product from Vicom called Internet Gateway that would turn your PC into a Software Router. They do not ofer this anymore. Can anyone point me to such a product or a recipe of how to use Windows Networking to turn my battery operated laptop into a WiFi router? This would be a superior solution than the KR1, don't you think?

Charles -->
1) You're actually looking at when the poster above you first registered, not the date of the last post. Don't worry, I've done that myself a dozen times. The date of the last post is actually at the top of each post I believe (now that I'm not on that screen, I think that's right).
2) In windows, check out Internet Connection Sharing, or windows calls it now Bridging I think. Google for ICS Win2k (or whatever ur using) and hopefully u can find something. Remarkably easy on the mac though with all of three mouse clicks to get it started, prolly that easy on the winside if u know the tips and tricks.
If you've got a laptop that is sitting around and can be your dedicated router (obviously it can multithread and be useful) then yeah it might work just fine for you. The router takes it place when u don't have the hardware hanging around. Personally, I want the router for it's more environmentally tolerant qualities (being able to work in heat, etc).
Good luk

Yeah, that would be nice. I agree with that statement fully.
However, anyone who tries to convey an argument with "wanna compare resumes?" makes me want to stay the hell away. If the forum could get back to factual information about the product, versus your venting, that would be nice. In same boat with you, and want to see the fix, but both of those guys have been pretty nice and helpful from the threads. 500 something posts isn't someone bs'ing around the boards.
MaxSig had a really good point, have you taken your gripes to Kyocera to ask them for a fix? Or, the other good maxsig point, return the box for a different one and cut your losses. Hopefully boostsig's customer support is as good as you say and you can wash your hands of this. Act on your, and my, Kyocera displeasure and return their product, versus bashing the volunteers.
BTW - was the 5740 listed as supported when you bought it by BoosterAntenna, or Kyocera's website?
good luck. |

Against all the conservative advice here, I ordered the KR1 and intend to use it with the PC5740, rolling the dice that the firmware upgrade will be out within weeks.
Can anyone here _who is knowledgable on the subject_ tell me how good or bad my bet was? Also, how long does shipping typically take from booster antenna?
advTHANKSance! |

We have had a few people have success, but most have a performance hit and we don't recommend it (yet), so there is a bit of a gamble (until Kyocera releases the next firmware upgrade).
We recommend not ordering the KR1 if you have a PC5740 - until the next firmware is released and we have tested it and give it the thumbs up.
If you want to get the KR1 and wait for the firmware that supports the PC5740, you can do that too.
Your order was placed last night at 11pm, all orders placed by 3pm CST, will ship the same day, so yours is shipping today. Look for an email before 3pm CST today with your FedEx tracking number. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

That's what I'm crossing my fingers for! Wish me luck, and I love you Kyocera, so please be nice! |

That's what I did. For me it is still faster than dial-up, but not what it could be. I do have to reset the router every few days, but that's still better than the screech of dial-up. Beggers can't be choosers. |

Hey Michael,
Can you clarify two things for me.
1) Is july 7 the ETA for the firmware addressing this, or just happens to be the next firmware rev?
2) Are the hardware revs done? I seem to remember there being a glitch about the pcmcia slot being too small for some cards, or not getting a good fit.
Thanks man

| That's tomorrow. Any word on whether kyocera will indeed make the most commonly sold card genuinely compatible with their product? I understand that as a phD student in a field based on words that I'll only understand half of what's going on here, but it seems the fella who is annoyed that there is a fix that's been sat on for months has a point. Kyocera has no legitimate excuse for not rectifying a major problem with their product as soon as it was possible. They should have made a download available as soon as a fix was possible. Not doing so is unambiguously a failure on their part, and yes, I've told them that. I just got my K1 today, and the bandwidth is terrible and I have to restart it every 5 minutes just to stay online. In other words, it's identical to dial-up. I realize the card has a lot, if not nearly everything, to do with it, but this is not ok. I bought the K1 through this site's sister and might just end up returning it to you folk. Please tell your sister site to, at the least, make it BLATANTLY clear that the K1 and pc5740 for all intents and purposes do not work together. I mean on the purchase page. It's all well and good to talk about it here, but the newbie who's just trying to get their bandwidth back shouldn't be penalized by you for not looking in every nook and cranny of your site(s). |

It has been on the purchase page for many months:

Ok. It is my fault for not paying better attention to that, though it's not as if I had a second option to turn to.
The more important question, which you didn't answer, is whether/when the fix will actually be made available to paying customers. |

You do have a second option . The top Global unit they sell has no issues with any cards and also works with HSPDA and EDGE |
