Yeah, the test cycle is completed but some other things were uncovered including tz1's note about the DynDNS.Org problem. So we'll have to wait and see. |

| I am eagerly awaiting to hear if the new firmware release fixes the problems with the Audiovoxx PC5740 Card. Unfortanetly that would be the card I own and the things are hella expensive to get a different one. Any word on how the pc5740 card is working with the new firmware build? |

Wonder how many have purchased the KR1 with the 5740 card figuring that Kyocera would produce fix soon?
Does anyone know if they are at least working on it?
I am getting not 30-50% of speed with card on laptop but closer to 10-15%. |

| From previous messages, I was under the impression that they have a working test version of the fix. I believe they are waiting to fix other code so they don't have to release a bunch of updates. |

They seem to be taking their time on getting this fix out. Wehn you consider that this is the card that Verizon is selling (most likely by the boatload). It's taking them like, what, four months to get this bug fixed.
I'm sure the delay has nothing to do with this card being competition to their card...

It is taking them a long time to release, I agree.
I have been told the PC5740 fix has been completed for some time now. They are adding new features and fixing other issues and instead of having multiple firmware releases, they want to get everything done and have one release. From a manufacturer point of view this makes a lot of sense, from a PC5740 customer point of view, the wait is painful.
Hey MaxSig, the PC5740 does actually use the latest chipset, the card has 2 issues:
- many have had problems with reception, replacing with the KPC650, usually fixes that.
- It is the ONLY EVDO card without an antenna port, so there is no way to hook up an external antenna or amplifier in the future (if needed).
The Verizon & Sprint stores push this card because it costs them almost $100 less than other cards, so they make more $$$. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier

Mr. MaximumSignal,
You know all this stuff how? You design wireless cards? You write router software?
I've been doing hardware and software development for over 30 years. I know how the business works.
I purchased the KR1 on day one. It was advertised as supporting all cards or I would have purchased a supported card. As we have heard thay are (and appearently have been) sitting on the fix for some time -- and will sit on it for another month.
In my notebook, I get download speeds approaching 1.1Mbs, in the KR1 I'm lucky to get 58Kbs. Now where I live, it's about twice dial-up.
Kyocera is not on my happy list.

Mr. MaximumSignal
I see. You sit in on the release meetings, so you know why the schedule is what it is?
And why should I spring for a more expensive solution when what I've already paid for should work? As has been mentioned several times, they have the fix right now!
I have boxes of "communications grar" that is obsolete. If you read the literature, EVDO will be obsolete in a couple of years and I'll get to through the KR1 in the box of obsolete communications grar and purchase the latest and greatest widget.

You think that I'm atacking? When I start atacking, grab the women and children and head for the bunker, baby ..
I purchased the KR1 from Booster Antenna and their servive was exemplary. I couldn't be happier and will cretainly do business withnthem again. Booster Antenna has nothing to do with Kyocera sitting on the fix (look at back posts to this forum -- there was a fix around March 4th) for this problen other than being the barer of bad news.
Currently, my internet connection is dial-up (and slow dial-up at that) or EVDO. I don't know how long Kyocera has been sitting on the slow-down fix, but hearing that they would delay release until the end of the month *pissed me off* since I had been quietly waiting for four months. I've also got to say that even 56Kbs is better than dial-up!
BTW, Maximum (can I call you by your first name, I feel we're so close), I think you set the tone with your rant about the card that Verizon is pedeling being junk, ya think?

Ok I'm not really sure why you insist on acting like that but like MaximumSignal said, there are a lot of people here who are willing to help. But then I suppose Internet tough guys always win.
The fix for the PC5740 card is not available and has not been available since the dawn of time. There was a software change that fully loaded the driver for the card in internal engineering builds but none of those have been released for public consumption. The remaining issue concerns the stability of the card during operation and is one that is important to get fixed. After all, as much as you're ranting from your largely unscrutinized place in this effort, delivering software to the end user that does not work correctly is going to be just as bad or worse than waiting to release until a fix is done correctly.
Moreover, KR1 has never been advertised as supporting all cards. From the day of launch, it was publicly posted on the Kyocera Wireless website that the router supported the Sierra A580, Novatel 650, and Kyocera KPC650. The 5220 and 5740 were never included in an official list of supported devices.
Finally, 56Kbps is dialup. Thank you, v.92. |

OK, Mackieman. I give up, help. I see two choices 1) shutup and wait until the end of the month or, 2) spend $$ for a supported.
You only get 56Kbps dialup if you are close enough to the central office and the wires are good enough. You are obviously a city boy (That's a joke)
For me, having to power cycle the KR1 from time to time is no big deal (you have to reboot Windows systems regularly) compared to the speed problem. Especally since Kyocera already had one software release. Adding signal strength bars seems to be (to me anyway) a lower priorty than getting customers (they are the folks who have purchased your products) up to speed (so to speak).
You guys, who are the experts after all, never said not to buy a 5740 -- I did check the forum before I jumpped. I'm an expert on many things, EVDO PC cards are not one of them. That's why I read this forum. I complain about the time it's taking to get a serious problem fixed, and all of a sudden I'm an | Quote: | | Internet tough guy | , geez...
Do you guys work for Kyocera or what?
I'll go back under the table and let you guys do whatever you do here.
