BroadbandAccess Connect Gives Double Duty to Handsets

Verizon Wireless Customers Can Use Four Wireless Phones to Connect to EV-DO Network

BEDMINSTER, N.J., Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless service provider, announced today that customers with The V and VX8100 from LG or the RAZR V3c and E815 from Motorola can use their wireless phone as a modem and get BroadbandAccess on Verizon Wireless' award-winning Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network. A simple cable connection from a wireless phone to a laptop and a subscription to BroadbandAccess Connect gives customers the option of using the nation's largest wireless broadband service to download data. Verizon Wireless expects to continue to offer BroadbandAccess Connect on additional phones and devices in the future.
BroadbandAccess Connect provides a cost-effective solution for customers who do not want to purchase a separate PC card to access the Internet from their laptop. Customers can use BroadbandAccess Connect to download large documents at speeds averaging 400 to 700 kbps on Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service, anywhere within the BroadbandAccess coverage area. Customers who travel outside a BroadbandAccess coverage area will seamlessly switch to Verizon Wireless' 1xRTT NationalAccess network to remain connected while on the road.

BroadbandAccess is rapidly becoming the standard for wireless connectivity in the business world and now the expanded device lineup introduces another option for customers who view office mobility and speed as a competitive advantage for their business.

To use one of the BroadbandAccess Connect capable phones or devices as a modem, customers can select from three BroadbandAccess Connect features:

-- Customers with a select Verizon Wireless BlackBerry, PDA or smartphone
and an unlimited data plan with qualifying voice plan can get unlimited
BroadbandAccess Connect for $15.00 monthly access

-- Customers with a select Verizon Wireless BlackBerry, PDA or smartphone
can get BroadbandAccess Connect with an unlimited data plan for
$30 monthly access. To use the phone as a modem, customers must have
a separately purchased Mobile Office Kit, which is available for $39.99

-- Customers with select wireless phones from Verizon Wireless, such as
The V and VX8100 from LG or the RAZR V3c and E815 from Motorola, and
eligible voice plan can get unlimited BroadbandAccess Connect for
$59.99 monthly access
Verizon Wireless leads the wireless industry in next-generation network deployment and its EV-DO network is currently available to about 150 million Americans in 180 major metropolitan markets. The company was the first national wireless provider to commercially launch high-speed wireless broadband services in the United States.

Good to see Verizon addressing consumer demand for this. Am not clear on some of these...

Why is BroadBandAccess Connect $15/month for PDAs but $60/month for Razr and other phones? Is there a different level of service capabilities? Does the $60/month acct include tethering?

For PDAs, does the $15/month plan mean with no tethering and the $30/month includes tethering?

So I hope that some of these solutions work on the Mac, especially for the poor souls that felt the need to preorder the MacBook Pro with no PCMCIA...

Here's the way I read it:
PDA's/Blackberries WITH qualifying voice plan: $15 tethering addon + $45 for the unlimited data plan

PDA's/Blackberries WITHOUT qualifying voice plan: $30 tethering addon + $45 for the unlimited data plan

V phone, Razr, etc.. WITH qualifying voice plan: $59.99 tethering addon

Last one I would assume would be plus $15 VCast charge but not implied in press release.

WOW! Sprint's PAM is $40 with a voice plan and 2 year agreement vs. $59.99 with VZW. Dam, VZW sure is expensive.
