|
|
There are a couple of phones the KR1 supports at launch:
Kyocera KX18 (Jet for Amp'd)
LG VX6600
Samsung A890
Audiovox 8940
USB drivers for each of those phones are available in KR1 now. Really and truly, the best bet for the launch firmware is to use a PC Card. If drivers are not in the KR1, the phone will NOT WORK when hooked up to the Kyocera KR1 Mobile Router.
Please understand, if your carrier supports tether options for your phone and what (if any) the extra charges might be (if any). This is a question of your carrier.
As the admin of EVDOforums, we have personally tested the KPC650, PC5220, AirCard 580, Novatel V620/Merlin S620, PC5740 with the KR1 and we know they work. If there are any questions related to phones and KR1, we will rely on the Kyocera Reps that visit to answer any of those questions. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I plugged a usb/serial adapter into the USB port. It was recognized. I didn't go any further. I don't have a serial cell phone nor do I have a serial modem to test.
ttyUSB2 makes sense because a KPC650 would be using ttyUSB0 & ttyUSB1.

Reading your post set off a "lightbulb" in me head: hardware support at the *kernel* level. If the KR1 uses Linux and depending on the kernel and tweezing, there may be a lot of devices the KR1 supports. Who knows what other modules are lurking out of sight as well.

We need to find I have into the shell. The Mgmt USB port isn't powered. I'm sure that there is something in the web console to turn on the shell. |

I wonder if load balancing on the router is possible by combining a USB phone as well as laptop card. This could be an alternative to load balancing two cards within a laptop, discussed in another thread. Linux is capable of that and if the KR1 is Linux-based...
Hope to see Sprint PowerVision phones supported soon. |

Yeah, I was noticing that most of the currently supported phones are older phones. Two appear to have been discontinued by Verizon (or at least they are unavailable in my market).

There are plans to support more phones as carriers release them with an official tethering option. Part of the delay in this effort is that we have to physically acquire a phone, data cable, and driver to load into the firmware and test before we release it. As such, some carriers aren't too keen on giving us free phones and service. But there is a process in place and updates will be issued to make KR1 compatible with more phones.
Also, load balancing is not possible on the platform KR1 is based off of. The two devices load as completely different USB headers and there is no software available to handle simultaneous connections.
The driver load that hxmiller noticed is due to a generic USB cable driver from FIDI. They supply cables to many phone manufacturers. In addition to the driver for the cable, the phone requires a driver and a PID to be loaded into the firmware so the router can pass data to it and receive data from it. It's a two-step verification process. |

Mackieman,
So, could we send you our EVDO phone w/data cable so you could add a driver for it to the KR1 firmware?
(I don't have an EVDO phone yet, but a Motorola Q is in my future....) _________________ Motorola Q News - http://www.qusers.com |

| While I personally would be ok with that, we couldn't really due to the liabilities involved. The phone has to be shipped a couple of different places during the process and will be used a great deal during testing. We need to get phones and stuff from carriers who want us to support their phone. Supporting phones that the carrier doesn't want support leads to further issues as well. |

I am wondering if any additional tethered phone support has been added to the KR1, specifically any Sprint phones (the listed 4 seem to all be specific to Verizon), or even more specifically, the Samsung A900?
I can get unlimited "phone as modem" service for $34/month but it's $60 via the card.

Has anyone tested the Verizon Blackberry 7130e? I have one, and it is an officially supports the tethering option with Verizon.
Thanks |
